@@mc3newsmcocconcierge504 Martha indeed plays them with reckless abandon, airily, delicately, lightly, perhaps as wood sprites would play them - hard to put into words... Whimsically is a good one. I envy those who were/are able to hear this living legend play live. My wife and I have bought tickets to multiple concerts of hers, even traveled to Singapore on one occasion, only to have her cancel at the last minute. I guess we'll have to settle for listening to her recordings. What sets her apart from others is that no matter how many times I listen to her recording, it never fails to move me emotionally. Even though I know what's coming, I always hear a fresh hidden layer in her playing. I don't blame her for the frequent cancellations: she bares her soul every time she's on stage, so if she doesn't feel inspiration, she won't waste your time by giving a formulaic performance.
From the way she played the first bar I already knew it was going to be perfect. Personally, it is my favourite recording of it. She played with so much passion. So much dynamic variation.
What an exceptional pianist ! Plus, this scherzo is perfectly suited to her temperament: the reflective sections do not need anything else than sheer desolation and the virtuoso parts are also the ones where Martha Argerich's passion is allowed to flare up... Thanks for posting and regards from France
I vehemently disagree. Her fast tempo glosses over all the emotional content Chopin labored over. Rubenstein and Zimmerman both used a tempo which embodied the scherzo (though Rubenstein muddled the notes a bit) whereas Argerich flagrantly speeds over chords which require a pianist's full attention. You and others say that this performance reflects Argerich's personality which is a dreadful insult to Argerich considering the piece's quality. Ultimately this pieces appears to be some sort of contorted satire!

@@chriscascketta174 Big deal. I have personally known many people who speak several languages. It’s not that hard if you are in those cultures to pick it up.
@@dougcameron6609 There are not many people who can speak 5 languages FLUENTLY.
@@chriscascketta174 I repeat- it’s not that big a deal Especially when all of them are based on Latin Melania Trump - same thing. No one gives a shit. You wanna get all geeked up about it, fine. Meet some people outside America.
Ура! Я нашла Марту! Получила удовольствие. Спасибо! Ирина Нижний Новгород.
How Martha can play this complex piece from memory amazes me. Such perfection to boot. I certainly believe Martha was a match for Horowitz in skill, touch and interpretation. Her approach is feminine and delicate yet strong and forceful where called for. What a great treat to hear her perform.
Argerich no tiene nada que envidiarle a Horowitz !!!
memory has literally nothing to do with anything. anyone who compliments someone’s memory is missing the point slightly. memory is the first and easiest part of learning a piece
@@luchethegreat3482 Not for me it wasn't! The technical and interpretative demands of getting this up to concert standard came first; the memory more or less just happened along the way!
@@TimFatchen that’s what i’m saying ? lol, the memory doesn’t matter. it happens on its own. but in my opinion it usually happens first, because it makes honing the details of the piece much easier when you already know the notes and the finger placement. like i said it’s the easiest part
@@luchethegreat3482 Ah now I see and agree with you! The memory bit doesn't matter, it's a byproduct of the real stuff!
What a chance to have the video of this fiery scherzo played magnificently by Martha Argerich !
