I remember hearing my father play this in a recital he gave in 1971 when I was 9 years old. I’ll never forget thinking ‘My dad is amazing’ as I listened.❤️
He's Surely on of the best. If you get a chance listen to Kissin's Chopin piano Concerto #2. It's about 47 minutes. You might be reborn in to Chopin if that's even possible.
@@voraciousreader3341 posture is one of the fundamentals in playing piano! His is almost perfect, but a perfect posture would be the one of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, arguably the best pianist of the 20th century.
From all the Zimmerman recordings, this is my favourite. His expressions (both facial and body) shows a level of excitement that definitely belongs to a scherzo. Most of his other video recordings of him show him playing in a conservative manner: no exaggerated motion. But this one, Zimmerman couldn't hide his excitement, and it shows in his body language. It's interesting to see a different side of Zimmerman. Of course, the auditory aspects are amazing too. Grand and loud but not banging, utterly magical, exciting, clean phrasing... Amazing interpretation. Out of all his interpretations, this one is the one that captivate me the most. I wish I can hear him live just once in my lifetime...
It is the 10th time I am seeing in a single week Wonderful never heard someone play the scherzo 2 this good. It is a pleasure hearing zimerman play. Bravissimo
Friends it is seeming to be the last hour, and I desire that you acknowledge the God that does exist, and his Son Jesus the Christ, know that you cannot get your righteousness and enter the kingdom of Heaven, by deeds or following the law, but by having your faith in the Holy One who makes your righteous through faith. Be converted, have the Holy Spirit, humble yourself, do not be a hypocrite (we are all guilty of this, I am EXTREMELY GUILTY of this), REPENT AND CONFESS YOUR SINS and ask for forgiveness, read the Bible, be baptised in the name of Jesus. Read the Bible read the Bible read the Bible. Start in the 4 Gospel books, Matthew Mark Luke and John, believe what you read, and be changed, and sanctified, be a sheep of Christ's, ❤ Grace and peace be unto you saints
This is my favorite Chopin piece. The drama and change in sections are all yet wholly joined....a strong, even, masculine, assertive minor key representation for sure.
I know it's been 4 years since your comment, but I'd love to know what differences you found between this interpretation and the one you heard! Greetings.

Bravo Kristian 💐. Excellent 👍 . This is the correct performance of Chopin . sit correctly & facial expressions are professional . Such a beautiful & luxury place . Thanx Deutsche Grammophon . 🌹
Call me crazy but the mannerisms shown @2:38 I’ve seen in Seong Jin Ho and Yundi Li at some point. Not sure if it’s just a coincidence. Particularly since Seong Jin Ho mentioned Zimmerman was one of his heroes😊.
1966 Martha Argerich provides an incredible range of nuances without even using the "una corda" pedal (I think) like Zimerman does. She also got more rhythmical nerve and shuts sharply the sound on the staccato notes before the silence values. Zimerman is yet splendid as always.
Whats going on at around 4:50 (and other similar passages like 6:30)? The right hand is written, in alternate bars, crotchet quaver quaver triplet but he plays crotchet then 2 sets of triplets in these bars... is this how Chopin meant it to be?
I think this is Zimerman's interpretation of what Chopin intended. Zimerman also does something similar in Chopin's first ballade starting at measure 82, where the triplets aren't given any distinction after the two eighth notes preceding them; they seem to blend as one.
Bro yeaa if u compare zimmerman to other pianists in performing chopin u can hardly find decent enemy to match him plus he looks like chopin i even thought at once that he was reincarnation guy of chopin himself XDD if u look at last age photos of chopin the similarity of zimmermans look and chopins look is insane
Of course this is absolutely wonderful. But, I think my favourite interpretations of the Scherzi are a bit madder, more like a mental breakdown expressed through the keys than an elegant or romantic song...
Cziffra anyone? Not that this isn't wonderful. Horowitz doe it justice as well and no one shapes the music like Rubinstein, imho, mistakes be damned. Thanks for this(5 years later)!
Deutsche Gramophone….do you *_REALLY_* need the extra cash, so that a _commercial_ interrupts a genius playing an exquisite piece of music??? Shame on whomever made this decision! And thumbs down, because you managed to ruin a Kristian Zimerman performance!

Horrible! Disgusting! How dare you say such a thing?
Technical excellence and yet the warmth and emotion Chopin would have wanted.

@ I don’t like so much Chopin’s concertos, tbh. But I’d surely to love hear him, he is also one of my favorites.

Großartig in jeder Hinsicht!
Zimmerman isn't a legend. He is a living legend.
It sounds so soft every time!
Even in the chords, the top note of the main run, and the left hand
How does he do that!
Fine skill and custom voiced piano.
