I love this movie, and this scene in particular. It would be one thing if they just played the song, but the movie takes the time to show us the singers in the studio, many looking nothing like what we would envision hearing the song for the first time. The two women who belt out the most soulful-sounding notes look like they just fell off the turnip truck from Nebraska. It cuts several times to Dustin Hoffman as the architect of this facade, beaming and bopping at his triumph, getting caught up in the hypnotic, patriotic fervor, knowing full well it's all phony. It illustrates perfectly the heartstring-tugging puppet masters and the careful way they craft their manipulation of the masses.
And he has these stupid stories about making movies while they are faking a war what supposed to be a big deal. It's like during the WTC attack when the CGI plain's nose was clearly visible after the explosion someone would say, this is nothing, this is nothing, when we made the Jurassic Park, now that is the story...
That's the point. The movie satirizes the typical American 'spirit' and patriotism. If you haven't seen the movie, give it a go. It's become scarely relevant to current day politics. (as it always was)
Nothing makes people feel better about themselves (while they justify or take part in) than someone telling them they are "defending liberty" and "guarding America".
I just found out I have Köprülü roots and am thus Albanian. Everyone I ever showed this movie to thanked me. Thank you for uploading a bit of it. Uprated.

This song is great. I'm not criticizing the video because I think most who look for it on TH-cam are looking for the video just the way it is, but it's 10x better in the movie when it's set up with the president having a heart-warming moment with an Albanian woman and child.
For our current Wag the Dog in Ukraine Brad Paisley just released his song SAME HERE…This is a major PSYOPS and we are being played as billions $ are laundered…God help us…Stop the killing🙏🏼
This could be played for every president and nearly every candidate at least since the Cold War ended, because in case you hadn't noticed, US foreign policy is intended (domestically) to "busy giddy minds with foreign quarrels, that action, hence borne out, may waste the memory of the foreign days," (Henry IV, Part II, Act 4, scene 5) -- that is, the former days when we still plausibly lived in a free country.
Every God-awful musical cliche you find in this kind of fake choral music...but the best part, not in the video, is when they find out "the war is over" and Connie shuts it down, saying, "This is in bad taste."
Sometime, I'd like to know why New Line didn't release a real soundtrack album that contained, "American Dream," "303," "Good Old Shoe," "Courage Mom," etc. I do know that when Tim Robbins made the movie, "Bob Roberts," he didn't want a soundtrack album to allow his faux-Dylan proto-conservative song parody material to be used out-of-context by the right wing to, I don't know, maybe, sell a war...
Hollywood at its best: to kill "We are the world" just to make an wonderful ironic joke about the pro-war-propagada of the US foreign policy - pure genius! Can someone explain this movie to Trump, please?!
Hollywood "at its best" has supported one war after another. So much so that when Obama ramped up drone strikes, and when he pushed for regime change in Syria and Libya you didn't even notice. But when Trump criticizes the Iraq war, when he wants to strike deals and when he explicitly states he does NOT want war with Iran or North Korea, the same Hollywood depicts him as the bad guy and tries to start WW3 with Russia. Can someone explain this to you, please?
Now years later, I'm glad there's no official,. complete release of this song for Donald Trump to use to sell a border wall. I can just hear this playing at some fascist rally in Kentucky, and the yahoos screaming lock her up after its over.
The Mouse That Roared was far better and funnier and done on a shoestring budget by the great Peter Sellers. I will say both Clinton and now Sleepy Joe did WTD well or badly, depending on your politics!
Good Lord....this song is so fucking overly sentimental that I could puke while listen to that crap. On the other side....if you´ve understand the meaning of that movie, you should also have understood the meaning of this song.
People need to watch this movie more than ever.
I Stand with Ukraine!
I find this even funnier after rewatching the original We Are the World's music video & seeing that Willie Nelson was a part of it.

Tenderfoot Prepper You're a fucking genius...
This is art in its highest form. Thinking of the scene "he ended the war" today in light of the current conflict
And Dustin does not live to see the sequel
The best part is by far "oooooooh democracy!" at 0:45.
I laughed my ass off Hoffman saying all the time "this is nothing!".

Great documentary
I would've been great if this, "303", and "The Old Shoe" were released on music CD or any other complicated technology.
This movie is exactly wtf I thinks actually going on think about it makes some sense
like the soul grunting guy
This is the most American thing on TH-cam.
That's the point. The movie satirizes the typical American 'spirit' and patriotism.

This movie is the template for the War on Terror.
Greast satirical song ever. What a movie!
es mi pelicula favorita. Me encanta.
"We have a right to fight for democracy to keep our country free!"
This describes the whole American insanity very very well.
Hardly, since they also make such movies.
Nothing makes people feel better about themselves (while they justify or take part in) than someone telling them they are "defending liberty" and "guarding America".
@@Bryt25 3 years late, but you DO realize that this song is a SATIRE (albeit very dry) of that sort of thinking, right?
Corporate interests have to be protected at all costs...
It’s a corny song no doubt, but there’s not a single thing wrong with defending liberty and guarding liberty.
I just found out I have Köprülü roots and am thus Albanian. Everyone I ever showed this movie to thanked me. Thank you for uploading a bit of it. Uprated.
this song is such a great parody to the so called "american spirit".. fits well in the movie. :)
"We got the right... to fight... for democracy.... and keep our country freeeeeeeee" LOL!
They could sell a war, even today, with this song :))
that drop was vicious
The way the United States work in international policy till now shows that nobody has learned a lesson from this movie.
1:42 TJ Thyne's doppelganger all the way to the left? Didn't show up in the "American Dream" Singers credits.
WONDERFUL MASTERPIECE: ITS LIKE I DONT SAY =) WOW TIMLESS! THE BEST! THE GENIUS! STATE OF MINDE SAFE US!

Brilliant movie
I hate that if i would see this in American TV i wouldn't be surprised.
Truly our democracy
The older I get, the more I agree with Samuel Johnson's words: patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.
Boswell: "fucken right, boss!"
Wasn't it said by Oscar Wilde?
love it)
Who would have guess it was not Albania but Ukraine.
Heck yeah! Ukrainian democracy!
Why Biden didnt make this his theme song is be-on me. It goes right along with the rest of his dog and pony clown circus.
The democratic play book that played out in 2020
I'd pay $1.29 right now for this song
Have courage mom…
Freedom Isn't Free
No there's a hefty f------- fee
And if you don't put in your buck o' five, who will?
lol this song is awesome
rationalperspective,
It's tough talking to the U.S. guys.
I appreciate your frustration.
What I like about the Americans is their ability for self-irony😂
Reminds me of the SNL bit tonight

They didn't take notes, they where the technical consultants for the film.
April 6th 2017: "Hey Donald, arms sales are flagging and Hollywood is running out of war movies. Got any ideas?"
This could be played at Trump rallies by evangelical choirs.
Do you really think Obama was a peace president? Tell that to the Syrians and Libyans that lost their relatives in wars started by Obama.
Its a pageant.

so funny
Do you mind uploading the other songs that didn't make it to the soundtrack like 'old shoe' and 'the men of the 303.' It will be greatly appreciated.

Trump's anthem.
Wer ist die junge, blonde Frau, die über den Song die hohe Stimme singt?
Deine momma
Deine mutter ist so dick, dass sie beim scheißen kärchert
Democracy yeas ???
NSA, CIA yeah democracy
Did USA for Africa really happen?
Wonderful theme... pity it has such an amout of patriotism in it, so it will never make it to the charts...
Very good job, mr. Tom Bahler...
The USA ever with the same argument to the war.
LOL
I wished we (the Germans) would sing: "We guarrrrd the German borderrrs..." 😰
+cocozuchanel What borders? Hahaha
I guess they meant Ukraine.
That song is so cringe...and yet so realistic.

All president are the same.
Things are getting so bad I could see this being used unironically.

As funny as this movie it, its also a little disturbing how easy it is to manipulate people
Just like 9/11

If you now check my videos.. I have uploaded "303".. Best regards Snozzo85
Horrible American dream is pig!
Haha all the none-pro american comments are being voted down like crazy.
