I’ve been watching TH-cam videos about the Elvis movie since it was in the theaters but this is the first side-by-side of Elvis and Austin singing “Trouble” (this is Austin singing and it’s on the ELVIS movie album). So much fun to watch and it was great to see Gladys and Dodger in the audience back in the 50’s. Excellent! There also is a video of Elvis singing “Trouble” in King Creole but my favorite is the one when he sings it during the ‘68 Comeback Special.
He should have been touring the world & making music history in the 60’s. He deserved a better manager that cared about his health & well being instead of his own bank account & deprived gambling addiction.

The clips in the gold suit are actually from a performance he did in 1961 in Pearl Harbor one of his last live performances until 1969. Some call it the best Elvis concert never recorded on camera, you can find audio of it here on youtube. It's a great listen.
Wrong! The photos and clips with the gold suit are from 1957, all of them. 1961 concert Elvis was wearing a bow, a light coloured shirt and had no sideburns. Any deep Elvis fan would recognise instantly 1957 Elvis as opposed to 1961 Elvis
Exactly. That's what Baz said at Cannes. Russwood had to be a "compilation" of all of Elvis's concerts. He was even warned by a judge to not make any obscene moves or he'd be arrested (per EP's girlfriend Juanita, in her memoir). There were always warrants drawn up for his arrest, his impact was so volatile at the time.

Amazing! I thought there might have been some artistic license taken in the film but this is close to spot on in moves and ferocity! Wow!! Austin Butler’s performance is magnificent.

This scene was very accurate however, it did not occur in russwood altho he did go a concert there. The riot we see happened in Florida, so this " trouble" scene was a compilation of several concerts cobbled together. Baz even said that in an interview. Nothing about elvis was made up but for the movie, presented in a way for audiences who never saw elvis in the 50s performing. My mom who is 94 remembers elvis being on Louisiana Hayride. That was a very long time ago and Baz had to use whatever old footage they could get but also listened to people who were with elvis back then and many others who have written about those days. Priscilla knows the most from the 60s on but who is still alive from the 50s? Elvis did not care for Hollywood and steered clear of all that. A lot of what Baz used came from Jerry Schilling, Priscilla and bios and real life home movies and "documentary" type footage. When Elvis knew he was being filmed he would be normal and funny but behaved. In private he was moody, and temperamental and impatient but always a kind person.

Trouble WAS introduced in king creole. He sang it. For the movie they used Russwood for him to perform, that's accurate but the riot happened in Florida. Makes no difference to me. Nothing was invented just to show rebellion or what he was going thru as a new artist. So much did happen to Elvis, Baz had a lot to choose from.
I loved this scene from the movie, but was wondering (as a person who didn't know a lot about Elvis), did Elvis really lie on the stage and roll around? Did he really grab that RCA dog (which was hilarious)? Did he really get down on his knees at the edge of the stage? Apparently the scene is based on things that did happen at some point--not necessarily on that night, but at some point. If I judge correctly, it looks like (in the movie) that the police put a big rope down the center of the audience--black people on one side, white people on the other. Then when everyone started rocking out, people started jumping over the rope and that's when the police pulled out the night sticks and started beating people up. Did this happen at an Elvis concert? I'd like to hear more about it.
Yes, Elvis did do some raunchy things with the dog statue, but I'm not sure that it happened at Russwood. That scene is a composite of many of his other concerts. Baz said he watched alot of footage of Elvis being "crazy" at his concerts: lying on the stage, gyrating around, singing to the women, going nuts; so Baz wanted to include that "vibe" in the Russwood scene. -- As for the roped-off sections for blacks/whites, I'm not sure that happened at Russwood. However, most of Presley's venues in the South were at fairs and festivals which had black/white sections only. The Alabama-Mississippi Dairy Fairs had roped-off areas separating the blacks from the whites. Accounting sheets of the southern venues where Elvis played typically showed a "black only" and "white only" section in their theaters, typical for those times. Here again I believe Baz used that idea in the Russwood scene, to show the separation of the races, underscored with clips of Senator John Eastland's anti-black rhetoric. The people breaking through the ropes and dancing with each other, who knows? Was this artistic license?
Trouble didn’t even come out until a couple years later. Good for movie story line but not accurate. Other parts were accurate though, like him wiggling his pinky in response to them telling him not to. Nobody told Elvis what to do
Until I saw this movie I didn't really know to much about Elvis. After watching this movie I started researching Elvis and talking to grandparents and people from that time. It was all fascinating. Silly question here 🙋🏻♀️ Maybe it was the old film and/or quality but did the real Elvis wear eye shadow? It never looked like he did. Wonder why for the film?
Idk about eye shadow but i know that Elvis did wear eyeliner to give his eyes a certain look, which was inspired by Tony Curtis (another musician that Elvis looked up too).
I hate sounding like an annoying person, but "Trouble" was written in '58. Just wanted to mention that. And yes, I know the movie version takes place in '56.
No, this was a compilation of Elvis’s concerts, not just Russwood Park. That’s what Baz said in an interview. He had to cram as much in as he could given the time constraints, and this was the way to do it.
Baz had a lot more video because they were allowed access to what Elvis Presley Enterprise and Graceland have, as well as all the press clippings, which if you’ve read any, you’d know that it got wild af at times at his concerts. His clothes were literally ripped off on occasion. I can see why he caused such a stir.
austin did a great job. but elvis isn't singing 'trouble' here. he first sang it in the movie 'king creole' in 1958. either way, it worked well the way baz did it.
Trouble was composed in 1958 for "King Creole" movie and that concert was in 1956. Can someone tell me how could Elvis sing Trouble in 1956 when that wasn't composed yet? 😂😂😂
They do that in all the biopics. It's called a composite scene. Represents alot of what the person did, however slightly off the timeline. How does one show the impact and fury of the hundreds of concerts Presley did into a very thin span of 2 hours and 38 minutes? They took similar artistic license in Walk the Line, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Ray. Every biopic utilizes this.

Becuase I was going to perform at my school for a contest
After he won BAFTA now he better win Academy Award
Elvis never performed trouble at Russwood park
No, this was a compilation of Elvis’s concerts, not just Russwood Park. That’s what Baz said in an interview. He had to cram as much in as he could given the time constraints, and this was the way to do it.
Austin was 100% accurate to Elvis himself!
I think they took a lot of artistic license here because of the limited documentation.
Elvis Presley has been reincarnated in a man. That man's name is Austin Butler. :)❤️😘❤️👍❤️
ELVIS? STRATOSFERICO!
AUSTIN:. GENIALE!
Where's his guitar
Show
austin did a great job. but elvis isn't singing 'trouble' here. he first sang it in the movie 'king creole' in 1958. either way, it worked well the way baz did it.
He never sang trouble live for a start
Actually he did :)
Conspiracy Theory says to me "He was simply doing his "jobby job" causing a meltdown at the border between the two, but that is just my opinion..." ;)
Elvis never sung trouble at this show. Trouble was wrote for king creole in 1958
The movie is applying the lyrics to EP's own support for desegregation.
It’s called a compilation video. They had to roll all his concerts into one due to time constraints. 🙄
Song russwood Park nooooi
Trouble was composed in 1958 for "King Creole" movie and that concert was in 1956.
Can someone tell me how could Elvis sing Trouble in 1956 when that wasn't composed yet? 😂😂😂
Don’t you know a compilation video when you see one? Good gawd. That was all of his concerts rolled into one due to time constraints. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Elvis didn’t even perform Trouble at Russwood Park, so this is interesting since the song didn’t exist yet…
And you can’t see the forest because of the trees. This was compilation video of all his concerts due to movie time constraints.
Elvis never really did that. He obeyed the judge to not dance that way
He sure did. This was a compilation video of all his concerts due to time constraints.
Elvis didn’t actually sing “Trouble” at the Russwood July 4, 1956 show.
This was a compilation video of all his concerts due to time constraints of a movie.
I don’t get the same feeling as the original , so it’s a no for me.
Does anyone know if there was a actual racist clan meeting like the movie shows.
No that never happened.
Yo vi la película ,el actor no se parece en nada a Elvis
How he sing's trouble in 56 if trouble is a music from 58 =/ something is wrong
They do that in all the biopics. It's called a composite scene. Represents alot of what the person did, however slightly off the timeline. How does one show the impact and fury of the hundreds of concerts Presley did into a very thin span of 2 hours and 38 minutes? They took similar artistic license in Walk the Line, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Ray. Every biopic utilizes this.
Why are so many comparison videos in TH-cam... Austin looks and sounds nothing like the king, but he did do a good copy job.
