  • We rented a cottage in the thousand Islands (St. Lawrence River) and went on a day sail in the Admiralty Islands area.

It's good to see Tica back in the water. She has a few other vessels to compete with in your fleet!

Beautiful boat and very enjoyable Video. May I ask how the bow sprit is working out. Just finished a restoration of a lugger will sail on Phangna Bay Thailand. cheers

Thank you. The cutter rig does help pull her to windward a little more swiftly. I feel she points a little higher, though I have not actually measured this.

Hi, Jack Rabbit! I'm the fellow who bought your Sea Pearl 21 many years ago. I'm currently sailing a Drascombe Lugger and a Compac 19. Looks like we continue to have similar tastes! Do you still have the CP19? I love how your lugger is set up. Would you mind posting a couple of detail pictures of your rigging? I'm particularly interested in how you've set up your shrouds and the boom on the main. Also, how does your mainsheet run? Lastly, the wood on Tica looks beautiful! What have you used on the woodwork? Take care BB! Dave

Hi Dave, good to hear from you. I pasted a link to a vid I did a while back detailing some aspects of the rig, with particular attention to the bowsprit. The shrouds basically are attached to the deck via stainless turnbuckles. The mainsheet fiddleblock (with a cam cleat) clips to a ring which slides on the traveller tube. For the wood trim I went with Deks Olje, i.e., rubbed in several coats of D1 and finished with 3 coats of D2 for gloss. If I were to do it again I might just opt for Epifanes woodgloss or varnish, as I find the Deks Olje product to be rather expensive and a lot of fuss. I sold the Compac 19 last year as we bought our old Alberg 30 back from the people we had sold her to ten years ago, and are now sailing that out of Nepean sailing Club. th-cam.com/video/Juc2iyRWvL4/w-d-xo.html

@@jackrabbit5047 Thanks for the detailed reply and the link to your previous video. I really think that this rig set up is both beautiful and very functional for the lugger. It doesn't add much complexity and I can see the obvious benefits in light winds. About the only downside for cruising is a bit of extra cost for length in a marina. Perhaps I'll do away with the boomkin at the stern by putting the mizzen on a boom!
