- BMW Battery Registration With The Ancel BM700 Scan Tool
This scan tool is one of my quick go to tools and it can perform BMW battery registration.

Roger - Needing to register a replacement battery, I purchased this tool based on a nearly identical video you posted 3 yrs ago. It fails miserably in that regard. Following the exact steps you provided all I get is the following message, “Battery could not be replaced; possible cause(s) of fault - no communication w/IBS or engine electronics, DEM/DDE program status cannot save battery change, etc….." So what gives? Would appreciate your input. Thanks
Hi Fred, It may be that there is an underlying issue with the car and it is most likely not the scan tool. The IBS is the negative cable and it has to be able to communicate to the DME or DDE (engine computer) in order to register the battery. This could be an issue with the negative cable, the communication line, or with the DME.
I would scan the vehicle and see what codes you have. Make a list. Then clear the codes and see what comes back. Then try and trace down the issues with the faults that return.
On the battery management, does it allow to code and register new battery, where the battery amperage has been upgraded (e.g. 70Ah to 80Ah) from previous?
Hello, This one only registers. The Launch I this video cam change the amp rating. th-cam.com/video/GBLZMdKEX1E/w-d-xo.html
Hello, I own a 2001 BMW SUV x5 e53 What is the best testing device for her that I can buy online?
Hello, There are quite a lot of options. One is this Ancel BMW700 which is in a moderate price range. This scan tool can do a full system scan. What it cannot do is do component activations. For that you need a higher end scan tool like an Autel.
I have been considering upgrading to an Autel myself as the capability is much higher. But for a full scan on BMW the Ancel BM700 does a great job.

I would like to see a registration from one capacity to another, as an example from 95 to 105 Ah. Both AGM batteries.
To change the AH rating you would need a scan tool with programming and coding ability. I think this can be done with the Launch tool but I have not tried it yet.
Is the BM700 only for BMW‘s or all Brands too?
It is also a generic scan tool for other brands but it does specialize in BMW items and modules.
Hello, can we adapt to the throttle body?
Hello Osman, With this scan tool it will not do a throttle relearn procedure. You would need a higher end scan tool for this procedure such as the Autel:

Thank you very much@@AskTheCarExperts
Would this work on a G21?
I would suspect it would. But for higher functions a Launch or autel would be recommended.
Launch creader elite bmw scanner is best i think, it does iht all , even coding 💯🔥 , and cheap too , but good video bro
Hi Steve, I have this tool also. I have to use it more and play around with the coding aspect. Thanks for your post!
I have the same scanner and mines doesn't give me the option to register battery under BMS reset:(
Hello, It definately should have the battery registration feature.
Why my device says not the same as yours , mine instead ‘Register battery’ , its professional and something else that couldn’t remember?
Hello, If you are trying to register the battery that would be the correct tab.
So what you’re saying is. If I had a flooded battery. I wouldn’t be able to upgrade to a. Agm battery? Also. I’m going to have to stick with the same amps.?
@@codymanship6856 A change can be programmed into the vehicle, but not with this scan tool. This is only battery registration of the same type and capacity.
@@AskTheCarExperts so same amps. Same type of battery?
@@codymanship6856 Correct
@@AskTheCarExperts thank you so much. I wish I would’ve known that before I bought this tool. I’m taking it to a certified mechanic today to register an AGM battery. I will let you know how it goes. I think I will keep this anyway because it should come in handy for other things.
Update. I paid a local mechanic 100$ to program and register a new agm battery in my 2018 Passat. Since then it’s ran perfect. The update ruined this scanner
