BEST Metroid Prime game in the trilogy👇: If you’re a Metroid purist, Prime 1 is best. If you’re a Zelda fan, Prime 2 is best. If you love Halo, Prime 3 is best. They all have flaws, but they’re all fun and deserve to be played
I'm gonna disagree. I'm about as big a Zelda fan as a person can be and I'd take Prime 1 over Echoes any day of the week. To be fair, Echoes is also incredible and largely has the edge in boss fights but it's not so cut and dry. It's a consistently strong trilogy, hopefully 4 lives up to it.
See I love both Metroid and Zelda (and don't really care for Halo) and I liked 3 the best. I have my own comment with more details, but the gist of it is: Prime 1 had the best exploration, but I dislike forced "victory lap" style things and prefer to explore other areas because I want to, not have to, which makes Prime 3 more replayable from that aspect for me. For combat, I'm colorblind and abandoning the "figure out the color of the enemy while you're moving, they're moving, and your screen is flashing colors as they shoot at you" formula in 3 made it a heck of a lot less frustrating to me especially lategame when everything gets a color in the first two.
@@LordRegal94 Prime 3 is pretty dang cool though whenever I replay it I can't help but notice how much "less" it feels like compared to the other two. I can understand them wanting to get it out, especially after it had already been delayed a little but it feels noticably less finished to me (a ton less stuff to find and use, worlds that feel less dense and mechanics that feel semi-utilized). It also hurts it for me how front-loaded the power jump is in 3, Hypermode is really cool but you get it so early and it's so integral to the game that it never feels like a next level thing to me. Conversely Prime and Echoes feel like a steady trickle of getting stronger until the final couple of powerups turn you from survivor into ultimate badass (Plasma Beam is so god dang strong and Phazon suit is sick as hell in Prime and Annhilator Beam, Screw Attack and Light Suit do an awesome job of making Dark Aether feel like you are in charge now). That sudden switch between that tends to come in mid to late game in most Metroidvania is one of those feelings I live for. It's still a really good game and it's highs are pretty awesome (control scheme rules, storming Pirate homeworld, Ridley fights, the worlds might be less dense but it is really cool to go multiple, etc) but it's absolutely the third best of the three in my book. I can totally see why the whole being colorblind thing would hurt the experience though. The "victory lap" for keys is a low spot in all three and arguably at it's worst in Echoes and best in Corruption but I feel like the Chozo Artifacts of Prime 1 are integrated best into the world of the three. No matter how a person feels about the trilogy, I can respect it and see where they are coming from. It's three truly exceptional games (and also Hunters).
Gotta say, awesome game however I didnt finished it because I got so frustrated at a part were you have to fight against like 20 space pirates in a row, no checkpoints, no healing.
Super Metroid has an iconic final boss, but Raven Beak is by far the best Metroid final boss, and one of the best final boss fights in any game I’ve ever played. It’s so damn good. Tough as nails, but learnable, and satisfying once you have his patterns down, and he can’t touch you.
So glad you're playing this. Metroid is my all time favorite, and I'm so glad you loved Dread. Would love to see you go and play the other 2D Metroids after this. Metroid/Zero Mission, Samus Returns/Return of Samus, Super Metroid, and then Fusion is the order, I think you'll love them.
1:57:30 This is actually Ridley's Ridley's 3rd time being brought back to life in the timeline, (unless Mecha Ridley is just a robot, then it would be the 2nd). Also, if you Play Metroid Prime 3 I found that there was one Missile Expansion that if you don't get the first time you see it, the room will become altered making it impossible to reach (as far as I know).
10/10 video. I love seeing new Metroid fans being born. Welcome to the fam we need way more of you. Going from 2D Metroid to Prime I was a huge skeptic but Retro Studios absolutely nailed the transition and blew me away. The music, the atmosphere, the lore, the gameplay... just perfection. They GOT IT. Dread was... alright. Not bad, but nothing compared to Fusion or Super or Zero Mission. Kinda felt like, after 19 years, I'll take what I can get. And I'll always be a 2D Metroid fan first and foremost but Prime and Prime 2 are simply *chef kiss*.
Prime 1 as the 1st game in the series i ever played and what turned me into the Metroid fan i am today holds a special place in my heart. As an entry point for 1st time players into 3D Metroid, it is perfect, not too hard, but not so easy you glide thru it. However, Prime 2 is definitely by a huge marging my favorite in the trilogy just bc it pushed me to my limits of understanding of the gameplay.
I am a simple Metroid. He played Metroid Prime. I subscribed (and drained him of his life energy) Edit 1: Slowly watching the video over time, 1:05:45 The best Metroid Prime game depends on what you want to rate the highest. The "general" consensus is: Metroid Prime is the best (for it's time) and Metroid Prime 3 is the actual best, because we got the Wii motion controls and budget, but from a game design and critic standpoint, Metroid Prime is the best, and people tend to hate on Metroid Prime 2 for trying to do the whole Light VS Dark thing that was popular at the time (Zelda Twilight Princess, Kingdom Hearts entire motif honestly, etc.) However, funnily enough, in my experience, most of the true, die-hard and still love the series community of Metroid, tend to have a majority of the community loving MP2. It honestly did a lot of things right, without spoiling too much Metroid Prime itself (for it's time) was mind bogglingly innovative, fantastic, captured the essence of a 2D Metroid and seamlessly transitioned it into a 3D game in an era where 3D hadn't yet even been fully explored yet (besides games like Ocarina of Time and the very recently released Halo 1, which is too recent to really pull inspiration from), we got Ball exploration, puzzle solving, world building, exploration at your own pace, 100 hidden fun things that are optional, multiple beams with beam combos, more stuff to scan and lore than most games at this time even wanted to do, 3D Map viewers, actual rain effects, and a thousand small beautiful details. When you compare that to Halo which is, don't get me wrong a GREAT shooter, and great environments, but also: In Halo you at most fight what, 9 different enemy types? Let me see here, Grunt, Grunt charge with 2 Plasma Nades, 3 Types of Elites (so basically the same guy, but again with different weapons and stats), Jackal, Hunters, Flood tiny things, and 3 Flood Variants, = 14 enemy types, we have more on Tallon Overworld alone... Metroid Prime in many ways busted down the 3D world and said "THIS is what a real game is like", because it had to! The games it was competing against were THE Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, THE Super Mario Sunshine, if you weren't a near perfect game for the time, you'd be overshadowed in a heart beat. I always like to tell people that my favorite moment in Metroid Prime was landing on Tallon Overworld, stepping off the ship, and not just hearing rain, but SEEING rain. Being able to look at plants that moved, swayed, but actually looked "realistic" (for the time), they breathed and it FELT like a planet, not a video game... A feat not achieved by Halo until Halo 3, in 2007, and by most other game studios until 2006-2012 (in a 3D Space). Most first ventures into the 3D world were failures, just like 2D worlds, as people tried to figure out what could be made in a X-Dimensional space and how to make it fun. Edit 2: 1:27:01 It is absolutely on you, and a you problem, but don't worry about it ;) 1:27:05 The best weapon in that situation is the scan tool, because if you scan the sign in your face, it deactivates the turrets. :) The 2nd best weapon is morph ball because you can go underneath protected, and cross the room without fighting the turrets. Edit 3: 1:28:45 ROFL xD You died next to the save station iirc! xD (see's the next scene) You even realized it later! xD Final Edit: That was quite enjoyable to watch. May go re-play Metroid Prime again... for the now 21st time I think... Thanks man. I watched the whole vid, worth it. Can't wait for MP2/3/4 :) Also large video format is awesome! I just come back and watch bits at a time, with only 1 reference video to go to, without memorizing Part 1-50.
I love that this video si just coming out now as I also just got Metroid Prime. I am new to the party, got my Switch oled in 2024 and never had a Gamecube (I had an Xbox with Halo back in the day). Cheers everyone
So fun, really brought me back to my first time playing back in 2012. Also I love all the prime games, 2 is the hardest and moodiest, 3 is the least well liked but I still love it because it has all these different worlds to explore. I think 2 might be the best for veterans but for casual players I think you’ll really like 3.
oh, something you said about "noise machines" reminded me of a "Fox Trot" comic: Roger and Andrea are listening to a recording of genuine forest noises... then they hear the person GETTING KILLED BY A LARGE ANIMAL!
Giving my input: Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are just about tied in quality overall. Metroid Prime 2 has some lower lows, but also some higher highs; it's really hard for me to pick one I prefer between them. Prime 3, meanwhile is... honestly really mid. The combat is dumbed down to the point that you solve every single enemy encounter *and* boss fight by using the same weapon, and it's deceptively incredibly linear for a Metroid game despite spanning multiple planets you can travel between freely.
Something that soured Prime 3 for me was the fact that you don't get to switch your beams anymore, you just get one, single, strengthening beam, no more playing around with elements besides ice missiles and hyper mode
To answer your question at 1:05:45 ish, the best is usually considered Prime 2, but that can be argued as some people say Prime 1 is superior, so it's between those two. Prime 3, while fun, just doesn't hit as well.
I personally like 2 the best, aside from requiring ammo for the other weapon types... I REALLY hated that lol Overall, though, still the better entry imo
@1:16:15 "speaking of mines..." yes, try having the Phazon Mines theme (the first one) on loop while you're in the Nether in Minecraft, even more fitting if it's heavily modded Minecraft, fits so mm!
1:24:36 Am I just now realizing this pod looks exactly like the Save Station from Super Metroid? 1:24:36. To be fair, I only played Super Metroid for the first time a few years back.
(No spoilers here) some other Metroid games with great final bosses (opinion) are probably: Metroid Prime 3 has a very climactic final boss with great gameplay using the Wii remote motion controls (if you don't like motion controls Prime 3 might not have the best gameplay, personally I really like them) it's just an epic end to an epic trilogy. Metroid: Samus Returns has gameplay similar to Metroid Dread so the final boss feels incredible to fight, if you can get used to playing on the 3DS. Metroid Prime 2's final boss is less climactic than 3 with clunkier controls (unless it's the trilogy version, then it's great) but still a great final boss in its own right. Super Metroid probably has the most iconic final boss in the whole series. It's actually amazing. That is just some of the final bosses. Not quite sure how they compare to Raven Beak, but my favorite is Prime 3's (it's also my favorite game in the series, so maybe some bias). Also, I didn't realize how long its been since the first Metroid prime video lol.
1:54:16 Super Metroid's final Boss fight is pretty Iconic Prime 2's is my personal favorite from a writer's PoV- Slight spoilers [mostly here for people who have played] . . . . . . . It has that "Eureka!" moment when you put the clues together on how to damage the enemy that is heavily based in the lore of the Prime games specifcally that also plays a heavy role in the plot for Metroid Prime 3.
Fighting Meta Ridley for the first time when this game was new was amazing. But fighting Metroid Prime is still one of my favorite boss fights of all time today
The first Prime is generally considered the best. I prefer Prime 2. None of the problems people have with it bother me, and it was the first Metroid to change up the normal upgrade suits. In fact, the Prime games are still the only Metroid games to introduce suits that aren't just Power Suit reskins. Prime 3 gets the least love because of its linearity, going against typical Metroid level design.
Prime 2 grew on me over time. I remember having a much easier time on that game in Hard Mode than I did on Normal because I just went and used the elemental guns appropriately. And used powerbombs to kill stuff like Ingsmashers.
I haven’t laughed so hard in a while dude. Awesome video man love the commentary and your play style. And to answer your question this is the best one out of the three that are available right now. Prime 4 might be the best but it’s never coming out so who knows. I did like Corruption too it wasn’t as good but pretty damn good. I think maybe I’m biased to this because of it being an amazing game from my childhood and one of the hardest games I finished at that time. I remember when I got this and I think it was Smash Brothers the same Christmas and I was stuck on my GameCube for months afterwards. Anyway keep bringing the content dude and I’ll keep enjoying!
Love seeing people getting into the first fps game that I played as a kid. Metroid always has a place in my heart, but Prime and the Prime series remains at the top of that list (though Dread is head-to-head with it currently).
Just a reminder but you should have access to all the other 2D metroids if you wanna play them too. Combined with the prime trilogy that would be most of the series minus hunters, federation force, and other m.
Speedrunning this game is done on 1.0, so you can access the most exploits. Still, I run it glitchless, hard mode, 200% completion (all items and scans.) Best time is 2:30:15. The movement and trick jumps are so fun to practice. Plus doing 200% requires so much non glitch skill that it feels amazing.

Thank you for reminding me about "Shadows of the Empire" that game literally is nostalgic for me only because of the AT-ST fight that, neither me nor my dad, could defeat for a long time. Also am I the only one who, when I was younger playing this game, got scared every time I had to go into the Space Pirate base and also running into the Ghost Chozo?
Honestly nice to hear someone else had their first experience with Metroud through Dread. I hadn't had a console growing up, so I didn't get attached to many nintendo properties directly. But i knew of Metroid and when Dread came out to booming reviews, I was all too eager to play it. and hell, it was great Played Prime after myself, but felt it was a little annoying to by the end to be forced to just wander everywhere till you unlock the stuffs

Nah fam. Prime 1 ain't got flaws.
1:05:20 just learned that you can freeze the fire traps. And I knew more about this game then when choc was at that point.
Let’s go it’s been awhile now let’s wait for prime 2 *crosses fingers*
Dunno why, but I love the name Alfred for a spider. Give him a little top hat, a monocle, and maybe a tiny walking cane.
I was thinking more “Gerald”, but “Alfred” is good, too! lol
Surely you mean four little waking canes? 🧐
Im so so glad this got ya into the series and Dread as well. Metroid is so amazing
This is my favorite game of all time. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Definitely need to finish the trilogy.
5:00 I love how he asked if he's getting an upgrade, and I immediately got an ad for the Busch Survival Guide. Felt like an approved edit
Gotta say, awesome game however I didnt finished it because I got so frustrated at a part were you have to fight against like 20 space pirates in a row, no checkpoints, no healing.
I feel you there I just got to the finally boss and I gotta say that phazon ruin section is waaaaaay too hard on hard more 😂😢
@@citrusgrenade7283 i dont even feel rewarded like with raven beak its just aaaaagghhh
Enemies drop health when they die.

lemme guess. phazon mines first trip?
I LITERALLY just watched your first two vids from a year ago and started stressing abt you dropping the series. God bless the timing 🙏🏼
I saw that Magmar at 29:08 lmao
Good eye!
The Metroid is real!!
1:32:44 Love the SpongeBob jellyfish buzzing sound
Prime 1 as the 1st game in the series i ever played and what turned me into the Metroid fan i am today holds a special place in my heart. As an entry point for 1st time players into 3D Metroid, it is perfect, not too hard, but not so easy you glide thru it. However, Prime 2 is definitely by a huge marging my favorite in the trilogy just bc it pushed me to my limits of understanding of the gameplay.
YES YES YES MORE CONTENT FROM THE KING!!!!!
I am a simple Metroid. He played Metroid Prime. I subscribed (and drained him of his life energy)
Edit 1: Slowly watching the video over time, 1:05:45 The best Metroid Prime game depends on what you want to rate the highest. The "general" consensus is: Metroid Prime is the best (for it's time) and Metroid Prime 3 is the actual best, because we got the Wii motion controls and budget, but from a game design and critic standpoint, Metroid Prime is the best, and people tend to hate on Metroid Prime 2 for trying to do the whole Light VS Dark thing that was popular at the time (Zelda Twilight Princess, Kingdom Hearts entire motif honestly, etc.)
However, funnily enough, in my experience, most of the true, die-hard and still love the series community of Metroid, tend to have a majority of the community loving MP2. It honestly did a lot of things right, without spoiling too much
Metroid Prime itself (for it's time) was mind bogglingly innovative, fantastic, captured the essence of a 2D Metroid and seamlessly transitioned it into a 3D game in an era where 3D hadn't yet even been fully explored yet (besides games like Ocarina of Time and the very recently released Halo 1, which is too recent to really pull inspiration from), we got Ball exploration, puzzle solving, world building, exploration at your own pace, 100 hidden fun things that are optional, multiple beams with beam combos, more stuff to scan and lore than most games at this time even wanted to do, 3D Map viewers, actual rain effects, and a thousand small beautiful details.
Edit 2: 1:27:01 It is absolutely on you, and a you problem, but don't worry about it ;)
1:27:05 The best weapon in that situation is the scan tool, because if you scan the sign in your face, it deactivates the turrets. :) The 2nd best weapon is morph ball because you can go underneath protected, and cross the room without fighting the turrets.
Edit 3: 1:28:45 ROFL xD You died next to the save station iirc! xD (see's the next scene) You even realized it later! xD
Final Edit: That was quite enjoyable to watch.
I think 2 might be the best for veterans but for casual players I think you’ll really like 3.
oh, something you said about "noise machines" reminded me of a "Fox Trot" comic:
Roger and Andrea are listening to a recording of genuine forest noises...
then they hear the person GETTING KILLED BY A LARGE ANIMAL!
ah yes, I remember that
I don't see enough people talk about foxtrot, good job
I loved watching you. Your gameplay and commentary was hilarious. Thank you for enjoying one of my favorite games ever.
I love your commentary here, and your editing is beautiful. XD
It is me, the #1 Metroid Fan. I have played a total of one Metroid games.
This channel is Comedy Gold.
I'm glad you finally played this game, it's so good, now we have to hope for Metroid Prime 2 and 3... maybe sometime
Congrats on hitting 800k subs
To answer your question at 1:05:45 ish, the best is usually considered Prime 2, but that can be argued as some people say Prime 1 is superior, so it's between those two. Prime 3, while fun, just doesn't hit as well.
I personally like 2 the best, aside from requiring ammo for the other weapon types... I REALLY hated that lol
Overall, though, still the better entry imo
@1:16:15 "speaking of mines..." yes, try having the Phazon Mines theme (the first one) on loop while you're in the Nether in Minecraft, even more fitting if it's heavily modded Minecraft, fits so mm!
1:24:36 Am I just now realizing this pod looks exactly like the Save Station from Super Metroid? 1:24:36. To be fair, I only played Super Metroid for the first time a few years back.
(No spoilers here) some other Metroid games with great final bosses (opinion) are probably:
Metroid Prime 3 has a very climactic final boss with great gameplay using the Wii remote motion controls (if you don't like motion controls Prime 3 might not have the best gameplay, personally I really like them) it's just an epic end to an epic trilogy.
1:54:16 Super Metroid's final Boss fight is pretty Iconic
Prime 2's is my personal favorite from a writer's PoV-

1:22:03 - I'm sorry you had to live in Massachusetts. No one should have to go through that.
i had a feeling that u wont leave this unfinished. enjoyed this i did
Love seeing people getting into the first fps game that I played as a kid. Metroid always has a place in my heart, but Prime and the Prime series remains at the top of that list (though Dread is head-to-head with it currently).

Honestly, fucking finally lol it feels like it's always been kind of overlooked on here
Literally one of the best games ever made and somehow not even my favourite Metroid game
Just a reminder but you should have access to all the other 2D metroids if you wanna play them too.
Combined with the prime trilogy that would be most of the series minus hunters, federation force, and other m.
Im watching this vid rn for movie night. Thx choc
Ah yes, I remember hunting for a 1.0 rom for like 2 hours to find one that works, simply for access to Scan Dash
Hi, I’d like to apologize for that one comment I left on that one video like a year ago asking where Metroid Prime was. Thank you for finishing it.
4:42 melee attacks with Samus left hand is crazy dope idea
Love your videos Choc. Would recommend you play through Sonic and the Black Knight. I think you'd like it.

Really hoping they keep the motion controls for prime 4. They are the definitive way to play

In my opinion you have already fought the 2 best bosses in this series. I think its a tossup between the final boss in prime and dread.
