  • This is our short (lol) video walkthrough of our finished L2H2 ducato campervan. Other videos are available thoughout the build, and a longer walkthrough of the completed van will be uploaded soon.
    More details on blog: www.doyourdrea...
    All build photos: photos.app.goo...
    Some items people have asked about:-
    Waste dump valve: Ball valve: amzn.to/3bgb6NF - just apply +12v to "open" and it closes automatically (has inbuilt capacitor/spring I believe); Elbow to floor amzn.to/2XehexM ; And straight for 1" flexi to tank amzn.to/3omnNdy
    The blue touch LED lights, there are a few in the series: amzn.to/2LtePwA
    Bathroom sink: amzn.to/38izGeO
    Bluetooth rear audio: amzn.to/38jKmtC

    I really like your layout. Having the bathroom over the fixed bed is a winner for me. I don't get why people go for the fixed bed at the expense of a bathroom, especially in the bigger vans.

      Thanks. Yeah, covid gave me plenty of time to work on it! The 7" fiat media system is their top upgrade, but the satnav is crap. Updates are huge; speed limits are very very wrong; and it defaults to km and "van speed limits" and I see no way to change to motorhome/car, and changing to miles works for a bit then it resets. Its just awful! Using phone/android auto now.

      Yep. I was slightly concerned when planning, but the brackets are wide to the chassis rails. Can't recall if I took the spare down to do the towbar - but it was quite a neat and easy job - except finding +12v. Note PF Jones are v good, but note their ebay site - the same part number for bits apply to boxers and ducatos but the price can vary for no reason :)

    From Canada: it seems to be a very interesting and unusual design, at least for us in in North America! It is unfortunate that the filming was so "jerky" (this is the term I found on the web to translate the french word "saccadé" in english), maybe "shaky" or "unstable" could be a better term. Anyway, I almost got seasick while watching it. It would be so interesting if you could film again, at a slow speed, with, if possible, a wide angle lens, so we could have a better idea of your very impressive design.

    • @Ryan_DYD

      thanks for kind comment it's fine lengthwise. it is quite wide which is the main concern on roads and parking spaces. the length isn't that big a deal. our first van was l1h2 transit but with fiberglass roof. with bikes on back it was the same length.... so with internal bikes on this one is same same. be aware the wheel base is longer on the longer vans so turning tight differs.

    Hi,
    How do you find the 5kW Chinese diesel heater after a couple of years of using it?
    We're planning a similar layout.
    By all accounts a 2kW should be adequate for an MH2 but some of the recent 5kW versions do offer bluetooth control and a lower current draw than the 2kW when outputting the same power.
    As I understand it when the room temperature is reached the heater doesn't switch off but operates at its lowest heat output. How do you find this?
    Thanks
    Ron.

    • @Ryan_DYD
      @Ryan_DYD  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not seen any of the newer versions, but yes the 5kw may be overkill, and 2kw would probably be OK. We run on Kero rather than diesel that burns cleaner/hotter (apparently) and had no issues. We also like the van hot and if its too hot we have heater on low and open skylight - ventilation is also your friend. The current draw is not worth worrying about in the scheme of things really....
      We do run low (1.2hz) a lot of the time and had no issues - and and at that pace it quiet. (whereas a 2kw may be noisier?)
      5kw does get van hot quickly :)
      I'm okay with my choice....

      lol. generous. thanks. upholstery is probably too caravan like but same as wood, perhaps too safe a bet. I'm not an arty designer more engineer, think I could've gone bolder and braver. but could have mucked it up worse. filming naff I agree. hopefully the content makes up for it. it's protected for info for interested parties not to me a you tube sensation. no artistic skills here and only a cheap mobile! a later video shows how it's been after 60 days so score may be a bit less but I'll take the 8. very kind. thanks

    Diesel heater directly underneath fridge ?

    • @Ryan_DYD
      @Ryan_DYD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. the outlets are below the fridge, and the 240v heater. The diesel heater is in the garage in the box behind the air suspension dials. (Batteries are behind the other part of the box). Fuel tank can just be seen on the left (running Kerosene rather than diesel - its cleaner and means I don't touch the van fuel system!). Fridge is vented into garage - anotehr vent added since pic, and a thermostatic fan to keep it cool and vent into garage (garage will have its own external fan/vent if the space gets too hot). lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC-3dfAo8LzFYUUgsltOxztUKomZ5OdVG8MgbNMOKISs4v1GEGOR3isxZFnGon3RkBRD83dl3GvhPiz-RQ650-9NRhCFBTlg7CrK_f60VUoB35q5RdS3ybStHUdq3MadRAOoYmxrjVvKCQ1vaIrjzP5KbZjg=w651-h867-no?authuser=0

    Hi Ryan
    Fabulous job, I've checked out dozens of MWB layouts and this is by far the best by a long way.
    I'm starting my conversion in the next few weeks and while it won't be quite as good a Quality as yours it'll be exactly the same layout. Do you mind telling me about the shower tray, did you buy it or fabricate it yourself. cheers Paul

    • @Ryan_DYD
      @Ryan_DYD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, kind words! People told me the design was "wrong" as it didn't use the cab, but (biased opinion maybe) the van is more spacious and usable in this format - for MWB with garage its palacial! I have other videos on channel with full CAD model on, and also one of the bathroom that shows how it was made. Also see video description, there is a link to photo album of build which shows bathroom build and the fabrication of the tray. (The tray was always daunting, but I went with first attempt.... wasnt *that* tough). PS - van may look good but its not perfect, I am an average DIYer - just a good design (IMO) and "cheating" lol - the final finish is simple but designed to hide the mess underneath! good luck

      @@Ryan_DYD Thanks for the reply. Looked at your build album and I'm totally baffled as to how you made the shower tray, What material is it made from, looks on the pics as if you just bent it into required shape. By the way great suggestion the SBMCC I'm a fully paid up member now.

      @Ryan_DYD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulexbiker2482 SBMCC well worth it! (I'm DYD on there). The shower tray (and room) is 2mm PVC sheet. So yes. just bent as per the photos using wood and a hot air gun! Just getting the heat right to bend, but not melt. Then the corners just clamping up and then lots of fixall PU - all neatly covered up by the walls. Tray was attempt 1 and I went with it - so shows it wasn't too bad (I had enough for 4 attempts lol). Not perfect but didn't think Id get better).

      I have satisfied all DVLA criteria, except for an individuals opinion who said, in their view, it does not look like a campervan. Despite meeting all tickboxes and showing evidence of other vans of similar appearance that do. 1-0 to them, the game is still on....

    • @Ryan_DYD
      @Ryan_DYD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its far from 1970s, more 1990s :) Fabric was chosen mainly as its hard wearing and won't show off marks, so last longer and look OK for a longer time than plain or thin fabric. Its to be used, not shown. However, I will not disagree - I think both the furniture material finish and fabric could've been bolder and more modern rather than "standard" and boring finish. I was not brave or bold here at all. I think a better internal designer could make vast improvements here. But please remember, I'm a normal person, this is my first big van conversion, and I'm an IT guy NOT a designer (I don't even do websites!). I'm not a carpenter; plumber; gasman; electrician; designer; fabricator or in any way a professional campervan builder My "skills" were more getting the layout with garage & shower to fit into an L2 which I was told wasn't possible, and learning how to do each element of the build to a suitable standard.. My skills for colours/fabrics simply don't exist and had I tried to be bolder it'd have looked naff and dated quicker or looked like a cheap ikea kit. Its a one-off prototype, version 2 would be better in all aspects, but I won't be doing it - I'm too busy out there enjoying it (86 nights since finishing) - and thats the important thing. I challenge anyone who is not in the field to design and build a prototype from scratch first time to perfection that suits everyone. Why not give it a go and share your results? Thanks for your comment and input, hopefully it may encourage any comment readers to consider going bolder on their builds

So can't justify costs of filming kit and software, and time to train to use them properly. What I don't understand is you get these really cool looking vans and then they are spoiled with 1990s upholstery fabrics you find in your granny's caravan. Why?

    • @Ryan_DYD
      @Ryan_DYD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personal choice, make your own van - pick your own fabric. The fabric we chose is vv hard wearing and the patterns do not readily show marks, imperfections etc. Its bright and summery enough. If it was a weekend van, or little use, then you can possibly be bolder as less prone to mark. Our first van we had 1500+ days away - and the upholstery was similar and held up well. Our last van, more "modern" upholstery showed marks up after a few weeks and harder to clean. That said, we weren't bold in the choice of colours/fabric in this van, and we could possibly have gone bolder. But, ultimately the important thing is the usage and enjoyment it gives - not what it looks like. Happy travels!

    This is just dumb, every is filmed in close ups and you get no idea of the space in total. How tight or roomy is? How does it fit all together? Nope, no idea. This really is a bad way of filming this. Very amateurish and clueless. Everything is filmed up close from less than an arms length distance.

Please do share your van build videos so we can all see what an expert (aka keyboard expert) can do. Will make my day :) So love your positive attitude and the fact you feel you had to comment. Made my day as I'm sitting here, in the sun, outside the van after a weekend of lovely biking and running in a new area - just doing it rather than just dreaming about it.
