      Hi Marty,
I have to admit, its a long haul working on this VLF especially when I don't have much time to devote to the project. I keep forgetting where I have left off!
      Cheers

@@SurfDetector Too right! Lol, Different kettle of fish building VLF's, especally the coils. All my VLF builds have worked from first switch on and some of the coils built for them work but I'm still learning how to tune these type of coils and to learn my Oscilloscope better. Like you say, it's also having the time to do it, to learn it etc. You're doing a great job of the videos Alec,,,Looking forward to the next! Take care, Marty.

Hello, This side of vlf is still not clear to me. Why did you choose 100Hz 10V for testing? 4.74KHz is needed because the schematic is made specifically for this frequency (components chosen)? TX frequency how much will be? 4.74KHz? When measure CH1 TX and CH2 RX with detector ready to use, what is the relation of phase shift between the two? Thanks for sharing, great work!

Hi my friend. I am certainly learning as well and make no claims to be the expert, just an interested technical hobbyist. With my signal generator I swept the frequencies until I found something close to what looked like good coil resonance to me.
The 4.75 KHZ is not an exact figure, it is just close to what I found listed for a commercial coil for the IDX and is easily adjusted with the tuning capacitors. If you watch my earlier video on the TX circuit you will see the frequency that I am running at for TX. From my reading I understand that the phase shift should be about 180 but I am not there yet. This project is going very slowly due to my lack of spare time to dedicate to it. I appreciate you watching and commenting.

I know little about electronics, but want to build a few things, one being a metal detector, the other is A dc motor controller, simple throttle for the motor capable of about 500 amps ,and a inverter in the 8-16kw range,
but the detector i really want to experiment with it, maybe try using brute force maybe use a inductor to boost the voltage until the coil is getting hit with 600+ volts at a few 100 ma. And possibly look into using a micro controller to scan the curent and voltage of each pulse, to possibly see when metal is in range of the coil, and Maybe do frequency sweeping do a few pulses at was each frequency group say 4khz, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, 7, 8,10, 15, 20,25, 30, 40,50,60, 65, 70, 75, 80khz, and the display being a small ocilliscope, maybe a two channel like the cheap hand held scopes, one channel connected to the pulse current for a transmitted signal, and a recieved signal. It should be able to show when metal isin the area, possibly before you can hear a difference in sound, depending on the signaling type, id like to use a secondary signal generator, to ptoduce a lower frequency signal that is always running when its on, bit thr input to the audio amp is blocked by fet and the microcontroller sensing the difference in current draw when metal is near the coil , and maybe send the return signal to the audio smp also, so it can be heard. Maybe a user can switch between the two. I want to experiment with all this stuff, maybe not all at once. I also thought about for large search areas for deep search, maybe a large steel tube can be e driven into the ground in be a grid pattern the tube havinga coil inside basically magnetizing the earth around the tubes basically a 1.5" tube a couple feet long or so, with all running at the same frequency. Then a search coil ran over the area between the stake coils, if there is anything even small gold it should start ringing between pulses from the emitters the field from the emitters would need to be studied see how large they are, what the reach is, keep them close enough to prevent blind areas. Possibly a 48" on center grid using about 12 emitter stakes . With them being 24"below ground ,they should reach atleast 30" with the reciever only receiving when there us no signal emitted, there should be only targets and possibly the receiver using multiple coils to make targets easy to locate. Possibly use low power laser and fiberoptics to illuminate the search coil/,reciever in the area of the coil recieving the signal from the target. And use colours for possible Material id. Red for possible iron, blue for possible gold, copper, aluminum, and lead, and did i mention GOLD! Hopefully i should sound on sub picker gold targets, (fly turds) especially if the soil is good snd there is multiple targets. Its just sn idea i wanted to play with, don't know if anyone would be interested if it did work! If a small auger could be used to drill a 4'+ hole on a 4' center grid. And drop in a 36" long emitter coil in a tube. The flux field should be large, it should be one large alternating field, causing eddy currents in all the metallics in the area. Maybe it would require a bit of shielded cable, going hole to hole, to a main box, then to the reciever. It sounds expensive, rven if you build it yourself.. if it found anything metal big enough to see with thr the average eye , at half arms length. Maybe it would be worth it. Especially if you could desrc a few acres a day with it. Going over 4' deep.. KRAXY IDEAS, I KNOW, BUT MAYBE IT CAN WORK, OR ATLEAST SPARK A BETTER IDEA!!

Love this detector still have one but was the fcc limiting power with these cause the real new ones are limited cause the older ones had a Reg board other then a micro circuits cause the older ones where you could but in higher caped out for more power

If you cannot find that cable, many people also use a USB2 cable.

I have not used Ethernet cable for that purpose so I cannot tell you how well it might work. USB2 cables are very common , you should try that.

Here is a link showing how to connect a coil. The method of connection will be the same for the IDX Pro.
