    The Classics and IDX series are a lot of fun to work with. Serious improvements can be made to those machines. Stock, you’d be lucky to detect a coin sized object any deeper than 6-7” in ground. Usually more in the 4-5” range. After a range of “Mr. Bill Mods” the penetration increases dramatically becoming more in line with the (depth) performance of the MXT, maybe better at 12”+ on some coins. With ground balance the sensitivity mods are also very stable. I half expected to encounter a chattery hot mess.

      That for the comment. Building these circuits in the DIY format is always somewhat of a challenge, but that is part of the enjoyment.

      Thanks Marty. I still have yet to box up my Crossbow. I need to take it to the beach at some point this summer.

    is nice to see you are doing a vlf project, i may learn something from this. One thing that i’ve noticed, when measure the coil keep it far from metal, inductance can change in presence of it. And regarding the tester from china, that i also have, it has a difference reading (on inductors) when compare it to my LC meter. I have to find a third multimeter to see which one is more accurate. Regards

      @SurfDetector  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the comment regarding the tester. I had pondered the accuracy of it as well, however as I was able to use the formula to accurately calculate the capacitance value that I needed for the correct frequency I believe that the inductance value must be relatively close.
      Cheers

    Parabéns pelo vídeo, uma observação, R56 (100R), C33 (6,8nF) e P4 (1K) também fazem parte do circuito TX.

    • @SurfDetector
      @SurfDetector  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello my friend. Thank you for watching. Yes you are correct they are part of the TX circuit however they are not necessary to be installed for the TX to work properly as they only are for slight frequency adjustment and in some IDX circuits they are completely removed. Once again, thank you for watching and for your comment.

    Great series! Looking forward to the rest of the idx pro build. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. When you tested your coil for 6.5khz did you use the transmit circuit of the idx or a signal generator? Also the calculators for F, C and L don't give a wire size. How did you know what wire to use to match the impedance of 1.2ohm? My classic sl transmit coil is 2.3ohms I think its the same family. If impedance is off you will suffer amplitude loss or over heat yes?

    • @SurfDetector
      @SurfDetector  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello my friend,
      As shown in this referenced video I used the TX circuit to prove the frequency of the attached coil. I used 28 AWG wire for this project if I recall correctly, most people use 30 or 32 I believe, I did not note an appreciable difference in the results. The resistance difference +or - will increase or decrease amperage accordingly.

    • @SurfDetector

      Hello my friend, most of the answers to your questions are in this video. The coil was a DD, I don't remember the diameter. The KHZ and inductance are what you need.

    Good morning,thank you for sharing,this is Mohamed from Alexandria Egypt,at 4.49 top left where it says coil ,point number 5 where it goes and what is connected to it .also .70 +1uf capacitor is it .70 volts or what is the value here and same for the Rx capacitor?, I don't have an inductance device to measure the inductance of the coil wire is there any other method?I may keep asking some questions until I finally make my own clone ,thanks alot for your patience.

      You should have an LCR meter in order to check Inductance. You also should have an oscilloscope for building the metal detector project, otherwise you will not be able to check your work and make proper adjustments.

      D4 is connected between 2 deferent polarities? Is this correct?
      What is the value of C1 ,thanks

    • @SurfDetector
      @SurfDetector  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mohalmisri1230 Yes D4 is connected correctly. C1 is 1nF. You should go to the Geotech Forum and read all of the information about the IDX Pro.
