Josep Carreras had THE most beautiful voice of all time and just watching his emotions and expressions when singing could move you beyond anything else. He was truly wonderful a complete artist, absolutely magnificent.
In 1984 this is the pre-cancer voice and one can hear from this what a magnificent instrument he had and how we as the opera world were robbed of an incredibly beautiful voice by cancer! Bravissimo!
When Jose sings, and I can watch his face, I am struck by the unity of his magnificent voice, his facial expressions of emotion, and his intellectual presence in the performance. I am often moved to tears watching and listening to this magnificent man. Carreras as Ramades in the tomb in the final death scene of Aida - well I need a whole box of tissues.
Also praise is always due Jose Van Dam. His beautiful baritone voice is so beautiful to me. I have many recordings I have bought BECAUSE Jose Van Dam is the baritone, be it his solo album, or part of a great choral work such as this. My daughter and I can recognize is voice anywhere. His voice is beautiful and regal. His technique is always perfection.
José Carreras' interpretation of Verdi's "Ingemisco" is phantastic, highly emotional and his voice full of colours! And this is also the legendary recording of Verdi's Requiem with Herbert von Karajan as a conductor. Thank you very much for sharing this!
Carreras is a tenor with unique emotional gifts both in his vocal sound as well as in his performance choices. I would forgive him his flaws. They make him Carreras. He more than compensates with that emotion which you cannot separate from the voice itself. More than any other voice, the tenor (for me at least) is the most exposed, the most in danger..like a man up on a trapeze or an astronaut risking all to walk on a moon...the tenor risks everything and we root for him, we internally go with him as he rises to notes that are impossible to imagine hitting, muscular, resplendent, virile and heroic. And with all that in mind, dont you hear Jose ....even more than others.... giving us his "all".... this effort and stretch is part of his gift.
A wonderful description of Jose Carrera's magnificent voice I love the way you describe the tenor as one on a a trapeze...or astronaut....all one there risking everything! BRAVO JOSE, rave and magnificent tenor!
Doesn't get any better than this. Jose Carreras's interpretations are setting the bar so high! No other tenor can match the experience he offers with his singing
Nice, i can see them fighting :) Carerras hates to sing slowly while Karajan loves it. I can see Carreras choking Karajan to death in his imagination 😂
Write in bulgarian! Who want read me, will translate!

@bodiloto 2) Karajan knew for sure what a Voce Verdiana is but WHERE ARE THEY??? in Italy? not for sure. To find a Voce Verdiana is as dificult as to find a Voce Mozartiana. Let's hope and see what the future brings. At the moment I don't see any around, una triste realtà.!
@bodiloto 1) caro bodiloto! this production carries Columbia Artists's stamp much rather than Karajan's. He had to take what the agency had available . Although he had the last word regarding the cast, he was subject to "avaiability". Fact is, Pavarotti was not eligible since it was supposed to be a new cast and Carreras was (after the bad experience with Domingo in the Turandot recording) the next choice. Regarding the Bass, I also wonder why a Basso like Furlanetto was not taken.
@bodiloto 3) this concert is a testimony of the burocracy and marketing behind the Opera and also of the unability of the Italian schools and music institutions to produce decent tenors.
Carreras had wonderful natural gift but even before health issues his technique was faulty causing a premature wobble above the passaggio. The very slow tempo by von Karajan does not help matters either. Listen to Bjorling to see how this should be sung.
hmmm there is definitely a fight going on between Karajan's overly controlled tempo and Carreras's will to shape the music so it is actually singable. Not the most musical experience.
Karajan, does not understand the human voice ,it's obvious. He tries to use it like some sort of freak instrument , doesn't work like that.Carreras did a great job sustaining the impossible tempo and dynamics, but after all he is human ,and it affects his upper center ,and top notes! Not his fault definitely,Karajan was great for some symphonic music and an opera disaster. All the old conductors as a matter of fact are a bunch of criminals extracting wealth out of their name with their SLOW HANDS
Jose is fantastic. Voice and interpretation at the highest level.
The most beautiful voice of his generation! Impeccable phrasing! Fantastic Carreras, bravo!!
Josep Carreras had THE most beautiful voice of all time and just watching his emotions and expressions when singing could move you beyond anything else. He was truly wonderful a complete artist, absolutely magnificent.
I can say without arrogance that I've heard many Ingemisco performances, but this one... OMG!
Carreras stole my heart since I Heard him sing almost 40 years ago... I believe is the most beautiful voice in opera!
Marcela castaño Have you ever heard Anatoli Solovyanenko? th-cam.com/video/0EwWhek16Aw/w-d-xo.html
I have been lucky enough to see him live on stage in Opera and concerts and he is magical-- you know you have just seen the greatest Tenor ever !!!!
@@Elena-mz7ue I have just listened to the man you mentioned and yes he is good --- but not as brilliant as Jose Carreras -- in my opinion.
Wonderful Carreras! Such warm and sincerity in his timbre and expression!
In 1984 this is the pre-cancer voice and one can hear from this what a magnificent instrument he had and how we as the opera world were robbed of an incredibly beautiful voice by cancer! Bravissimo!
What are you talking about? He recovered and was as great as ever.

Karajan adored his singing for a very good reason. JC has a sublime tenor voice and an unique way of singing - PERFECTION
Also praise is always due Jose Van Dam. His

Man, Carreras shines, as he always did back in the day!
One of the most beautiful pieces of sacred music. In the voice of Carreras it's superb!
wonderful voice...... my favorite color voice and classic singer
Young Carreras. Seine bezaubernde Stimme berührt mich immer sehr.
José Carreras' interpretation of Verdi's "Ingemisco" is phantastic, highly emotional and his voice full of colours! And this is also the legendary recording of Verdi's Requiem with Herbert von Karajan as a conductor. Thank you very much for sharing this!
excelente Carreras.. qué voz y qué interpretación!!

love to read yours, clearly he is a gift and should be loved by opera world...I agree he is not Jussi, but he sounds so youthfully beautiful, unique.
Wonderful description of Carreras' voice and ,furthermore wonderful description about what to sing as a tenor is. Thanks from Italy .
Carreras is magnificent always everything put in to all he did-- superb--- a complete artist
Carreras is the best of all,we love you CARRERAS
No dubt.Josep is genial and absolutely insuperable.I love Carreras for his perfection and emotion. Thanks you very match!😍😍😍😥😥😥😥
Mit Abstand, die beste Interpertation von Igemisco! Perfekte Phrasierung, wunderschöne Stimme. Ausdrucksvolle Pianissimos!
Bravissimo José!
BRAVOOOOOO JOSEP !!!!!!
Van Dam's confutatis is stunnig !
Impressive and riveting.
Tutti e due sono eccelsi! Fanno tremare il cuore!
Simplesmente fantástico. Que voz❤ Encantada❤️😘🎶🌹
Carreras in his recording is very, very good, but Jose Van Dam is truly great. Stuff of legends.
Wonderful !!!!!!!
That's the best Ingemisco! Thank Karajan I think. Verdi could be happy
The best is Karajan Pavarotti....
Meraviglioso
insuperabile!
Bravo
Impressive performance
Viva Jose

Carreras is amazing in the Ingemisco. And Van Dam makes me proud to be a Belgian.
Que hermoso
Insuperabili!!❤
@bodiloto Congratulazioni per la sua generosità. Salvare anime, come fa lei, è un'attività davvero meritoria.

Like a angel voice...
Karajan (not notoriously generous) said he doubted Caruso could have sung this better.
Bravooooo
With a bonus Baritone-bass right.

Often forced singing , but still beautifully sung with that wonderful Carreras emotion.

I tried to listen to Bjoring as you suggested but it sounded like a scream , after Carreras's dark powerful voice

You can learn in this piece a lot of right or false singing.
A bit rough

Van Karajan is the most un-musical human being ever given a professional musical position!!! Poor Jose!!
What an ignorant you are!
The wobble has start here! And the one to blame leads the orchestra!
