Omg Laura, these are the cookies that my mom always made for Christmas! I've never attempted to make them myself and she has passed away, so I don't have her to ask how to make them properly. I am going to follow your recipe, you've never let me down before, and I'm making these on Christmas Eve. Thank you Laura, I love it when you go all old fashioned Italian Christmas! Take care and Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family. Me and my hubby will be enjoying these and thinking of my mom and dad too. Xoxo
Just made this last night. My aunts make this cookie in Italy when we visit and wanted to recreate. This is extremely close to the authentic ones my aunts would make but I’d say it’s even better. The flavors are incredible. The texture of the cookie is phenomenal. Added this to my new flavor cookies to make every Christmas. Thank you for the recipe!!!
We love these but haven't had them homemade before. My grandchildren call these Papa's biscuits, they love them too. Thank you for such a fabulous recipe x
One of my favorite cookies!! When I was younger I thought they were really fancy fig newton cookies that you could only eat at Christmas or Palm Sunday.
The one thing you mention that I really like is the foods you grew up with. I love to reminisce over the good things in life! Keep on showing us your childhood favorites that inspires me!
Struggled every year making these. You gave me excellent tips in filling and rolling. My filling went smoothly and so enjoyed making them this year. Many thanks and Buona Natale!
My mom made these for my Christmas Around the World in the 3rd grade. I’ve always thought of them as the Italian version of fig newtons. I’m going to have to make these soon!
My part of Sicily calls them cuddureddi. My mom makes them every Christmas using the figs from our backyard. Everyone loves them. My mom prepares the filling a couple days in advance so the flavors are more intense. Buon Natale, Laura e famiglia!
Josie That's interesting! In Puglia the cuddura is a sort of biscuit with an egg in the middle! Thanks for sharing this! Ciaoooooo from the ITALIAN FOOD BOSS! 💪💪🇮🇹🇮🇹
@@NOSUBSCRIBERSWANTED Like I said earlier, that's what they call fig cookies in my mom's town. My dad's town is the next one over and they call fig cookies something else. But that's a good question about what the difference is between a cookie and a pastry. After all, rainbow cookies are technically cake not a cookie. I thought pastries were cakes, pies, doughnuts, soft things like that, possibly filled with cream. Cookies are usually small and crispy. Whatever they are, they're all delicious!
OMG!! Crying at that outtake at the end! You never cease to amaze me with your neverending, beyond amazing recipes, Laura! All the best to you and the fam for a blessed Christmas and an excellent New Year to come!! 🤗💛🙏🏼
Hola Laura, Hope you're enjoying the holidays with your family, and looking forward to the new year! 🎉 I have a suggestion for a possible future recipe...Torrene! Would love to see your take on it, as the recipes I've seen use sugar or honey, almonds, pistachios, dried fruit...lot of variety out there. Take care and looking forward to more vids in 2020!!
I love fig cookies. I have to save this recipe. First, I'm making your jelly doughnut recipe in a few days. Thank you for the tip about leaving refrigerated dough out at room temperature for an hour. Very helpful. Merry Christmas!
My absolute favorite, fig cookie. The Bronx Bakeries made them. Omg. Delicious. Burke Ave, Bronx NY. And, probably The Little Italy of the Bronx too. East 187th Street bakeries. Omg.
My favorite part of the entire video: At 12:35, Laura stumbles over her words, and says, "Why can't I talk today?" That is so honest, humorous and funny, I am laughing my head off. LOL
Those look delicious. The thumbnail of this video makes the fig cookies look bite sized when they are not at all. Bite sized cookies would likely dry out. These look succulent.
I have a question. I use fresh figs because I have a fig tree but ALL the recipes call for dried. So my fresh figs have so much moisture it is too runny. How can I thicken it up? FYI the recipe I use just blends the fig mixture and doesn't actually cook it. Could I cook some moisture out?
I have to find dried fish, because I live in the boondocks and there's no way I can get them around here. Then I'll be making this recipe. It looks yummy.
Reminder: Figs with seeds are pollinated by female fig wasps and then decomposed by the fig, so if you’re stingy about having the remains of a dead wasp in your figs, check the source of your figs and make sure it’s seedless as those figs do not require pollination. Hope this helps :)
They turned out amazing! I love the fact that you cook the filling. Soo much better than uncooked. Also the dough was delicious! Thank you for all your great entertaining educational videos💕👏👍
This is easier if you just pipe the filling and roll the cookie and cut the dough as your making each round , rather then cut it in 1/2 and cut them down to the size u want

Learning quite a few recipes. It's Great making food.
They are perfect indeed
I do love fresh figs but I wonder if I could just pop them into a 200F oven low and slow to enhance the flavor. Hmm.
Yes, please, how do we go about using fresh figs? Any changes in the preparation of the filling?
Thank you for this recipe! What do I do if I don't have a food processor?
You are such a delight!! I enjoy your videos so much!! And, honestly have really learned a lot as well!! So thank you!😉😊
Looks yummy. One question, why did you freeze them for ten minutes?
YES!!! I LOVE THESE!! I CAN'T WAIT TO MAKE THEM!!
Are you able to use any kind of liquor? Would an orange liquor be too much?
Wonderful recipe...will surely try them. Lots of love from India

Please show us how it looks before you take it out of the mixer and before you knead it.

Woww

Does anyone know if she has a recipe for crostata alla nutella??
Instead of using shortening, what can I replace it with ? In Greece we don't have such things! 😢 I love you! I'm here 7 years! ❤️❤️❤️
You could probably just use all butter. Or something like lard.
Sure half lard half butter is good too for many other pastries and doughs.
I’d use a good quality butter if you go that route.
I m definitely making these😍😍😍
You are amazing
Making Sicilian figs now. ❤❤❤
🔔🎄Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family... May 2020 bring you good health and happiness xoxo
Good evening Laura watching you start on the dough noticed your vace with the Christmas balls the top three look like mickey mouse love it
Published on my birthday
Love its!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰
I mince the figs in the mincer , because I make a Christmas Cake ,gorgeous!
Please show the ingredients here. Thank you.
What can i use instead of brandy? I don't drink.
Just leave it out altogether. You may just want to replace the quantity with water so the texture is right.
