@@damienthonk1506 There is love and affection, connection, etc
      Not all families experience this.
I haven't experienced anything that feels like family, and I grew up feeling I didn't know what home felt like, as there was just abuse etc where I'd been.
It's only recently that I shifted from feeling so totally alone, which has only been a thing from mediation and connection with the universe. I still don't have any real connections with people, no one truly knows me, etc.
Experiencing the situation like what appears to be happening with these ppl, Clara etc - does seem like a real family indeed.

I am thinking about Ms. Clara today as i am making her cookies for Christmas. I grew up in New Orleans which has a large Sicillian population that celebrate St. Joseph's day every year. Church ladies would come together and make literally thousands of these cookies for the St. Joseph alters held in many parishes. Over the years I have tried different recipes. While they were all delicious, none of them compare to Ms. Clara's! So now, it is my go to recipe and I think about this very special lady every year. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. We love you, ms. Clara!

The closest I had to a GM was "Aunt Marge" our next door neighbor when lived in LA. She overcooked a lot of stuff but I was a little kid at the time and didn't mind. I think she feared food poisoning in her day and maybe that had something to do with it. Lots of treats at her house and once made the best home made loaf bread that I ever had. RIP aunt M and uncle M.

Bet your grandma never made fried squirrel did she or cook Poke Salad or Sallet as she called it. mmm how about Cracklins from pig rinds? See, its all what we grew up with that some people would turn their noses up at but,, we all remember as DAMN good eats! :)

Clara's videos are the best! Watching these cuccidati Christmas cookies part one and two get me ready for the holiday, the past two years my mother died and I just didn't have the strength or will power to do make these. This year I'm making them again and Clara's recipe is simply the best. If you put the cookies in large tins and layer them with wax paper and foil they will last till march! this recipe is complex however I find it to be one of the best, from time to time I would add mini chocolate chips which give them a nice touch. If you are interested in making something that is a bit of a challenge then try these they won't disappoint. Happy Holidays to all

My great aunt (born in 1914, oldest girl in family of 11 kids) told me it was her job to wash the big cooking pots. She decided not to do them & starting hiding them outside in the chicken house.
After a few days her mom wondered where all the pots were. Her brother told and she had to spend 4 hours cleaning them all up and only had bread and chicken broth for dinner. She still hated cleaning the pots. My favorite uncle (born in 1907) always washed the pots; they cooked & canned together.

This is so enlightening, how our ancestors food was so different. The times were so different, we are perhaps a little spoiled. I remember going to my grandmothers' house on Christmas day. My mother and aunts cooked for weeks. The food was delicious and the best part was being together. Making memories and being about to look back and reflect on what was really important. LOVE OF FAMILY!!!
