So basically the 49ers are intimating at this point, that if Saleh is not the DC, than Brandon Staley will be. Yes we do need defensive line help both at the end and the interior, but we do need offensive line help. Both Brendel and McKivitz have no business starting in the NFL, plus you need an eventual replacement for Trent. The trenches on both sides of the ball have needs for sure. They should be able to do this, especially getting the compensatory picks they should received. I wouldn't mind them going all trench picks in the first three or four rounds.
That's where games are won...in the trenches.
Why are we not surprised at this? Kyle is almost "arrogant" at best, complacent at worst. Some strategic lessons are not being learned by senior management.

they need an absolute destroyer defensive tackle that only knocks people back so when the ends get up field there isnt as much room for a running back to exploit.
Maybe they went fishing. :) Taking a break before they get back into it. On MVP, that is a regular season award. Lamar deserves it. I feel bad for Lamar and Goff for not playing up to their regular season form in the playoffs. It's tough to do well. Hopefully Purdy gets his chance again! Thanks for the update!

No coach in their right mind would take a job with Baulke as the GM! I think Staley would be a good choice, he also might be someone that stays more than a season. Anyone but KC. I agree that the biggest draft need would be interior defensive line. I also think they could use another LB to bring in for depth, maybe Graham will progress and Winters should be better next year
It's probably because they already have decided that Staley is their guy. Saleh is probably just to make it look like they interviewed someone else.
Honestly, I don’t see much hope for the 2025 season since the the organization appears to be unconcerned about their offensive line being unable to protect Brock, or the defensive line being able to stop the run or adequately generate a pass rush against opposing QBs. If you look at these last four remaining teams competing for the Super Bowl, they all have very good OL and DLs. The Niners will never be able to compete and win as long as they remain focused on other areas. Their refusal or reluctance to embrace change makes them antiquated in the NFL and they will not be competitive again for a long time. I am afraid the window has closed for this team.
Jennifer, the MVP votes are already in. They were submitted on the Monday following the regular season. It's always like that. Lamar's play in the last game is irrelevant to that.
It won't be the first time Lamar wins MVP after an early exit from the playoffs.
The 49ers did the two interviews they needed to do for the Rooney rule. I think last year they weren't sure about Staley and wanted the continuity of promoting Sorensen. Probably a reaction to an outsider coming in and not doing well (Wilks did have his hands tied with the scheme they forced on him). Now they've had Staley in the office for a year, they know even better if they want him for the job.
They might be waiting for Saleh because they still prefer him to Staley, or because they don't want the noise and added pressure on Staley if they're the ones who said no to Saleh (the fanbase really decided Saleh should be the guy, I'd rather have some of the other candidates out there).
It's the only thing that makes sense because the new HC hires are going to be hiring their own coordinators and the pool of great candidates will dry up. They could've been ahead of all of those new HCs if they didn't think they already have their guy.
Yes, MVP is regular season only - which makes sense, but I still believe Josh Allen has done more to deserve the honor.

It seems like the 49ers developed some incestuous behavior, only promote from within. And if the ball-boy is the last man available - so be it.
Also some stubbornness took over and maybe established DCs won't come if they are forced to keep the wide-9 in, when it doesn't work anymore. A front-7 with only Bosa and Warner as elite players and the rest consist of back-up tier guys, will not work under any DC without dominators up front.
A true set of men-covering DB's could make up for the deficit on the line, but as long, as the philosophy is, 'we start covering 3 yards behind the LoS - 🤷♂
Part of the reason why is the way they are built - Wilks tried to go another way and that did not work

They need the offensive line help as well as the defensive line help. Especially if Banks is not going to be resigned. The couple picks should be for each line. In both Super Bowl losses they did not hold up in pass protection in key moments that cost them. Also they need to get the toughness back on Defense that they lost letting go of the players they did 3 years ago ie. Jimmy Ward. Very important to resign Greenlaw & Hufuga and look to add other tough hard hitters in the draft. Lamar had the better season, but Josh should be the MVP, because take Josh away from that team and the Bills are not close to a playoff team. Take Lamar away and Ravens are still making the playoffs, they would have to grind out wins and would not be blowing anyone out and would have less wins.
The teams I hate the most are #1) Packers #2) Eagles and #3) Saints. I merely dislike the Bears. The Lions are getting there. Therefore, I'm with you. Go Bills. Go Commanders. SKOL.

If we end up with Sorensen as a Special Teams Coordinator, and Staley as DC again, we’re staring down the barrel of another 6-11 season. I kinda hope it does lead to that so Kyle can be gone. His do the same thing over and over again, and running players into the ground when you have a rookie you can give a shot have worn on me.
