I think ppl are overlooking an obvious possibility. Lake was a 1st year DC and defensive play caller. Maybe he wasn’t calling the right plays at the right time. It was reported that Raheem got heavily involved in the defense during and after the bye week. The defense started playing better. Perhaps Ra took a step back to direct his focus back on HC duties and Lake took the reigns over the last few weeks. And the defense took a step back when Ra let go of the reigns. Ra wants to be the CEO and delegate. He needs his coordinators able to take direction and then work independently to enact that direction through scheme and development. Lake failed to do that.
Appreciate you going through at least a preliminary list of potential candidates for us. I like Robert Saleh above the others mentioned, but I'm not worrying about it. I'm sure whoever they hire will be better than Jimmy Lake. From the get-go his hire looked like Morris trying to lift up a buddy who was simply not close to being ready for NFL DC duties. I think he'll go back to the college ranks and find a team to work for.
If it were up to me, I'd prioritize candidates with DC experience coaching a top 10 defense in the NFL. No newbies. For this reason, Steve Wilkes, Robert Saleh, and Dennis Allen would be my top 3 targets. Then I would focus on who might stay on as DC longer. I don't want to rent a DC for one season, then he's back into the coaching carousel trying to be HC again.
I believe we already have the talent (re-signing Judon and Simmons would be a plus imo). It obviously doesn't hurt to get better, though. With that said, we need an established defensive coordinator with a proven track record. Possibly an aggressive one. Someone with a different mindset probably wouldn't hurt. I saw a stat for us: we've had 3 top 10 finishes in total defense in 45 seasons. THREE. None of those in the top 5. We just need someone good.
I really think we should go for Saleh, or Wilks. Maybe even Dassai he had that defense playing well against the Vikings. We need an aggressive defense, we can’t keep sitting back and hoping people make plays
If you just evaluate these names purely by sack totals, surprisingly Dennis Allen is right there with Robert Saleh’s work w/ SF and the Jets. Ulbrich is part of that Jets defense so is it him or Saleh? I’m ok with Allen or Saleh. I’d be hesitant on Ulbrich.
Tori, I see 5 DCs being thrown out there, but Raheem Morris needs to get a good DC. I watched the Atlanta Falcons after we were 6-3. This is my list of DCs, Brandon Staley, Sean Desai, Dennis Allen , Ryan Nielsen, Lou Anarumo
We definitely have playmakers Lake just dropped them into 8 man soft coverage and rush with 2 DTs and a DE on majority of the known pass downs this is not college 👎🏾👎🏾
Yea bro facts, that’s exactly what I was thinking but he was terrible at calling plays especially 3rd downs he basically just dropped 8 into coverage and rushed 3 or if he did blitz he had are corners like 10 yards off to get beat on quick slants, crossers and basically anything underneath…… my main problem with him tho is he don’t use his player to their strengths it’s like a just play my defense how I run it because it’s no way we dropping Judon and Carter into coverage on 3rd downs 45% of the time just keep it simple and let are rushers rush💯
I have never seen any DC be successful without the right players in key positions. Falcons fans get caught up in firing and hiring coordinators but it's scheme and how it relates to the talent they have that dictates success. Running a 3-4 scheme with Grady and Onyemata as the DTs was bad from the very start. The Falcons and Fontenot must decide to focus on building a defensive line before any DC or scheme will have success. Just look at how the salary cap dollars are distributed! When the GM does focus on defense he makes poor choices. The 1st and 2nd Rd picks in this draft should be DTs. It's time for Grady and Onyemata to be traded or released.
still going to be garbage at football. i guarantee who ever comes in will definitely give up 25+ points on defense because we aint got no LBS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE so we are going to garbage if we dont go get LBS and some help in the secondary
I'm so sorry you have zero credibility and no fan can believe anything you have written or stated. Tori Macclenny responsible for libel, slander and defamation of Desmond Ridder as you spent all your time in the offseason trying to destroy a young kids career by informing the fans that he was not qualified to be a quarterback. Do you really think fans should give you any attention or even entertain your thoughts after throwing an active player under the bus by telling everyone repeatedly lies about Ridder that had zero truth. When your not even qualified to speak on such subjects due to your lack of understanding a rookie qb and how growth and development comes about in different time progressions and yet you and your bias and need to kiss Raheem Morris's rear end opt you to talk complete fiction about a young man's career to benefit you and Morris career by destroying another. Constant conjecture and speculation with zero accuracy. Do the right thing and step down. It was so funny when you just laughed and laughed about Ridder and yet his stats are better than Cousins and penix combined but no you thought it was absolutely hilarious.
Doing your job and trying to sabotage players are two different things. Desmond Ridder was not it but sounded like it. Tori was not wrong in her analysis of Ridder. If you're telling me that someone who is apart of Falcons podcasts can ruin a starting QB's career I would not be able to stop laughing.
Fans didn’t need to be told that Ridder wasn’t it. Relax. We could see it on the screen lol. He’s probably a career backup in this league and there’s nothing wrong with that. We traded him to Arizona and couldn’t even get a spot behind Kyler. You must be related to him huh lol
Wink.. a Super Bowl winner with a history of having great defenses.. that’s the move to make

We have the talent. We just didn't have the coordinator. Lake seemed to rarely ever adjust, and our defense almost always looked the same.
@@C_Santiago7 i agree
I would hire Jeff as the linebackers coach and Steve as the defensive coordinator.

Steve wills as a defensive coordinator he a championship coach I trust him& Raheem Morris let’s go Rise up win in off season 🔥

Man Tori can get it fasho 😮💨💯
Get what ?

Robert Saleh is the only good option outta all of these
I really think we should go for Saleh, or Wilks. Maybe even Dassai he had that defense playing well against the Vikings. We need an aggressive defense, we can’t keep sitting back and hoping people make plays

Tory! Falcons fans want Marquand Manuel or Dennis Allen!! Period💯‼️
What's wrong with saleh
Nothing

Robert Salah?
Where in the world are Wink Martindale and Ryan Neilsen on this list?
Why don’t Raheem just take over…
How about Ryan Nielsen. He did a lot with a little
Respectfully, Tori h$$$ no to Ulbrich. Loved him as a player but never want to see him in the red & black again

I think Saleh goes back to the 49s.
where can that windbreaker she is wearing be purchased?

Don ‘Wink’ Martindale!!!!!!!!!
28-3
Ryan Nielsen
I'd take Nielsen back as our DC in a heartbeat.

Falcons are perpetual losers
I’d much rather listen to Rac, Arch and Shock than this
She's good. Sounds personal or something from you.
