  • Time Team investigate the town of Castleford, a Yorkshire mining town that may have once sat at the very edge of the Roman world. Was Castleford really one of Roman Britain's most important settlements and if so, what treasures does it hold?

    John's long, nervous explanation of his plan for the football pitch dig followed by Tony ignoring everything he'd said, turning to the small crowd and saying "ladies and gentlemen, this man is about to stick a bore hole through his anomaly" and then walking away may be my favourite joke in the history of this series. So sharp, so quick, so smoothly done.

    I sure wish that Odyssey would number these videos. Or put the date of televising. I would like to see them in historical sequence.
    Also, Has Odyssey thought about having a tour of the digs? Maybe a 6-7 day excursion for us tourists from America.

    8:22 Wowza, that immense level of flirting only helps to confirm my suspicion that Phil is a colossal Casanova 😋.
    With his Indiana Jones attire and playful pub-like attitude, I can see how he'd be secretly big with the ladies.
    Also neat how that other guy knows and gives us the form numbers for the pottery.

    If you think you found the road under the river, why not cut a trench on the bank to confirm? We’ve seen GPR get other hits wrong that they were so sure of. Makes me scratch my head.

    • @nicolawebb6025
      @nicolawebb6025 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably the Environment Agency won't allow disturbance of the river bank. You never know what unintended consequences messing with a river can have

      Pretty sure these are always exploratory digs, to check if the site is worth a longer, more staffed (and therefore more expensive) effort. And allot of these guys had normal jobs w/ other institutions and could only participate for the 3 days.

    • @annazaman9657

      And that was the brief from Channel 4, the television company financing the series of programs.. There are many explanations on many of these videos explaining the very good reasons why these programs were restricted to just three days.
