we just passed the twenty sixth anniversary of this episode being filmed. thanks to adam and his work on the school website we know that for posterity. thanks adam. i hope youre living your best live buddy.
I attended high school in Indianapolis, Indiana (American Midwest). The property had been a Civil War arsenal and still had a building or two from then. My g-g-grandfather had been stationed there for a short time in the 1860s. I walked on the brick sidewalks in the 1960s. Would have loved to have Time Team do a dig there!😂😊
This school is obviously private and prob expensive af. One of the students editing the hair of a picture of Tony was doing it on a computer drawing pad. In the late 90’s! I can only imagine how expensive that was back then!
I must say, I am very impressed with the students in this episode, particularly the teenagers. It is always wonderful when there is a school group involved but this group stood out to me as one of my favourites. They where all so skilled, professional and committed to the process. I think they all should be very proud of themselves (even if this was years ago and they are adults now lol)
I love how the whole school gets involved with this. The same as with other projects were the community gets involved in their our homeowners or other amateurs or students working on it. It’s how it should be.
This has to be one of my favorite shows the way you involved the school into your research was amazing. You inspired a ton of new archeologists and all kinds of hard workers god bless you Timeline 🙏 ❤️ 😊
This is so fantastic. Bringing history to life for these students will give them such an advantage of understanding it. The students were so involved and so impressed with them. Great episode
This was clearly filmed in the 80’s /90’s…. I’d love to know how many of these students were inspired to go on to become historians or archeologists! I’m sure this visit peeked the interest of many of them!
My school had a Dominican Friary under it as well, with the ruins of a chapel on the grounds being the only thing left visible. I feel cheated that Tony Robinson never came to dig it up.
I almost became an archeologist. I should have made my way to England. I'm just fascinated with UK history and archeology! Can't take that much of a pay cut now haha but wish I could.
You can really pick up Phil's Irish accent out of the English accents. My grandfather was from Ireland but died before I was born. He married a Cherokee woman and had 6 kids with her. My dad was the youngest son and shortly after he turned 15, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. My grandfather loved her so much and sold he's ww2 medals to pay for her pain medicine. My grandfather was in his mid 40s when she died. He never remarried or even dated anyone else. He lived for another 42 years without her. You have to remember he married a Cherokee woman in the 1920s. Some states still forbid any marriage between different races back then. They had to go to Kansas to get married but moved back to Oklahoma afterwards. She died before it was legal for them to be together in their home state. 😢 I am married to a man from south India. I hope to someday take him to their graves. Their courage to be together inspired me to love freely. Wow this was not what i was originally going to comment... 😅😅😅
Phil isn't Irish 😅 He does pronounce the Rs in all postitions but this is because he's from the West Country (South-West England). People pronounce the final Rs there and pronounce the ay diphtong as oy ("side" gets pronounced as "soid") as part of their local accent.
A bishop’s throne is a “cathedra”.. the church building where it is placed is a “cathedral”. It’s usually the main church in an administrative area called a diocese, which was itself taken from the old Roman imperial system of area administrative boundaries.
Great episode, but a few small errors: Dominicans are FRIARS, not monks, and their houses are called "conventus" in Latin, or PRIORIES (not "friaries", a word used by the Franciscans.) Some of the illustrations seem to show Franciscans (in brown habits, though in medieval times they actually wore grey) rather than Dominicans, who wore white habits with black cloaks (hence their other name, "Blackfriars"), though I spotted a correctly dressed image of St Dominic on a pinboard at the final gathering.
My friend became a friar about 15 years ago. Went from being homeless and overdosing on heroine to becoming a very humble and pious man. It still surprises me when I see him. Before he became a Franciscan friar, I thought they weren't around anymore. We're from Louisiana, USA and don't have anything like that around our area. So I never knew much about it outside films about the medieval that showed them.
Sir Tony is always complaining about something especially if he doesn't get his way. Other members of Time Team try to explain things to him and all he does is whine. I have been watching Time Team for years and he is always the same. I love the program, but hate having to listen to Tony. Phil has great patience when dealing with spoiled little Tony.

I wish they did stuff like this in all schools around the world showing kids what was in the past and how people in the past lived
yes that would be good indeed, to show how good, easy and peaceful most of us have it now compared to then

Time team always got the kids involved. That’s the best part. Good stuff. Teaching their history in an engaging way.

These kids are fantastic! I LOVE how the team interacts so BEAUTIFULLY with these adorable kids!
I love how Phill teaches the students about the early history of the school sit. Bless you, Mr. Phill.

The two timeline girls were precious. They did a great job. Two gold stars!

Love the way Mick says "catheerdral". And was odd to see someone other than Phil flint knapping, but then he jumped right in
Greetings to you from Iraq, I am Ahmed. Well done by involving the students in the subject of the research.
Tony, the picture is you! Many have been similar but this is your portrait
Love the students' involvement and their interest and curiosity in what's going on. Nice Tony & Co!

ending up as a security guard as I did. Breadless arts.

Brilliant idea, a whole grammar school full of future archeologists and historians!
"Hitting a gas main would be disappointing" you have to love Tony
I love the Friar Robinson art 😂
Tony just about got punched by Phil when he said "It's bad workmanship."!
I imagine the things these students learned over those three days, will be remembered for their whole life. Not so much the Math, Geometry or Grammar.
My school had a Dominican Friary under it as well, with the ruins of a chapel on the grounds being the only thing left visible. I feel cheated that Tony Robinson never came to dig it up.

What a beautiful love story! It's too bad you didn't get to know them but it's awesome that your family doesn't try to hide their relationship.

Wow! what a Rich Wall? to build from Flint! such a useful tool and Material! right there for the Build!!
Is that a very young Jenni at the table? Ah! To be 30 years younger!

And christian churches took their design from the roman basilica, which was an administrative building.
Now, this is what I think of as "educational." Some future archaeologists among the students?
If its lost, Phil will find it.❤
I knew the video picture looked like Tony and then it’s shown 12 minutes in!
Tony looks younger with his hair longer. Love it!
Backlight daddy has returned
Did Victor use Tony"s face as a model for his sketch of Jesus at 37:51? LOL.
Great video, well done 👏🏽
Cathedral means the cathedra or seat of the bishop. When things are in turmoil, bishops may have to move around.
Time Team ! ❤❤
The students' timeline on a cloth background reminds me of the Bayeux Tapestry. Am I correct in supposing that was their intent?
Love Time Team!! ❤️ 😃
I would prefer a Saxon church.. 😊🇩🇪🌹🏴
That was a great episode.
Sad that I couldn't find the info from that website. Seems we need some internet archaelogy.

How I would have loved to be at that school getting to join the dig with the archaeologists
Does anyone else think the image on this thumbnail pic looks like Tony from Time team?
The Hufflepuffs seem to enjoy themselves.
I was looking for a comment like this! I had the same thought after noticing how nice the children were and those uniform colors lol.
😅
Isn’t that Tony?
