Love the ideas! I've gotta say: the turtle felt like it was still moving quite slowly. In fact, the use of speed lines with what seemed like a fairly slow pace gave it an almost comical feel? Perhaps it's just a perspective problem and the land is farther away than it appears, but it just didn't *feel* like the turtle was moving particularly fast from the perspective of someone not playing the game. Definitely not meant as a criticism! I'm rooting for this game 100% :3
@@nivmiz0 to be clear in my feedback, the speed lines themselves feel great at selling speed. It's just that the turtle doesn't actually move that far! Just from my perspective (a random person I know) the high-octane speed lines clash with the fact that the turtle is going somewhat slowly. I'm so excited to see where this game goes!!
You can use the turtle as a movable solid object: you can move it when it's out of its shell and when it goes in it can't move and acts as a solid block
You could add a danger element, like Scorpions. Use the Tortoise to avoid them (headbutt away, and the scuttle away), or the snake to defeat them. This is just me: And with the power of your friends the goal is: to find the Pearl of the Oasis. Through a few small puzzles (reach there, spend X amount of time on water, scare of a scorpion) and you find the pearl. Once obtained the pearl, you move to a new Oasis...adding some RNG element and progression goal (complete as many oasis as possible). Also each Osais becomes more dangerous. with more enemies like Spiders, birds and angry snakes...and more steps for that Pearl.
in your previous video you made it possible to move when riding a tortoise. I think it could be better to integrate this mechanic into the riding system, something like this: the tortoise looks where you look (with a certain delay to mantain naturality) and if you move more to the front of the tortoise, it goes faster. If you go for example to the front-right side of the shell, the tortoise will go faster and inclined to the right. With that mechanism, the riding would feel more natural, like the tortoise is being guided by your weight in it's shell rather than being just a mount.
I have a couple of ideas, I'm not sure what feeling you're going for, so I'll just list all the ideas that I have: - You make the movement feel better by bringing items to the animals. The items will increase the movement speed, control... You could have each animal need something that they cannot reach. For example, the turtle could need something far from the body of water. - You could add puzzle like scenarios where you have to use the environment to move to a destination like stepping on a leaf in a river to move down stream. It could only move in a direction and not be controllable, it'll make riding the animals feel better due to gain in control and speed. - You could add collectibles in random places, to give a reason to move from place to place. Because, at the moment, the game looks fairly barren. The collectibles don't have to be coins, they could be shells to fit in with the aesthetics of the game - You could add some specific functions to each animals like turtles being able to swim fairly quickly in the sea, the snake being able to slither up places. These functions would help make each animal feel distinct mechanically. - I know the text bubble is a recent integration but I think you should colour code the speech bubbles to each animal. Or use a dialogue box at the bottom with an icon showing the character you're talking to. Those are the suggestions that I have. Good luck on your game dev journey :D
As soon as you said pushing the sea turtles speed to the maximum I just thought of the lizard holding a small flag and wearing a pirate hat i don't know why XD If I had money to join patreon I would but Im here as fast as possible instead
I'll be honest I still don't see how this game is fun. Maybe I'll see it after some levels develop but right now there isn't anything I would call fun on it's own.
Imagine you ride in a roller blade his little head sticks out the top. You preserve momentum with it, when you go to start moving maybe you can push backwards off the ground with a match or toothpick. I think it would be interesting if while in the rollerblade you could use your hands on close walls to take sharp turns at high speed.
snakes could be good for getting to higher locations which are imposible to get to without the snake you can also prevent the snakes from being to powerful by making it so they cant go into smaller spaces
Haven't seen any other video about this game, so I'll just live my take here: I think a "Only Up" style game could be very fun with the theme you presented. For whatever reason, the lizard wants to go up some sort of tower to see the sunset at it's top. It also makes room for interesting story telling, if that's what you want.
The way you did the text at the end here is flawed, it makes the text seeable through walls and the player, you can see it when the lizard jumps off the turtle over the talk popup (Not sure how you would fix that)
War Tortoise (mountable turrets for your companions) More seriously, add predators for the lizard that try to eat it.

Interesting, I'll look into that. Yeah, I'll see if I need to push the speed or change the animation to sell the speed a little better

Make frog that jump (or you can’t do that)

The turle can slide in its tell. The snake can lift itself up to help you get to higher places. (slick walls)

Haha, maybe I could add a pirate hat or something
Really appreciate the support!
My idea would be make the tortoise really heavy and able to push blocks, the turtle could dive underwater and the snake could deal with combat.
bro this game is looking cool I cant wait to see where it goes from here
I really like the stylization
Thank you so much!

cant wait to ride a frickin turtle
🔥
Snakes are surprisingly good at throwing themselves so maybe the snake can launch itself across gaps?
Great idea! Lunging forward could be a really cool movement option

The tortoise seems useless since the lizard can already move on land way faster than the tortoise
Yeah, I'm definitely not sure what puzzles he'll be used to solve. If you have any ideas I'm open to hearing them!
lol that destroy menu function
Sometimes I forget to record the code that's relevant to what I'm talking about XD

Pretty accurate to what I have in mind, at least story wise! Mechanically, it won't play like only up though
@nivmiz0 Oh, ok, that's interesting then! Really looking forward to further development ;)
i'd add a depth of fog shader a skybox and smooth shadows for better visuals
to add more immersion when riding lerp the field of view to be increased
And I thought they could make a whole game out of botw climbing…
make race mini games so we'll speedrun this game as well
Oh my god
