Thanks for the video man. I'm starting to skate and I've always been feeling my push is just "trying to not kill myself while awkwardly going forward". I'm gonna try to train a bit with my front leg like you recommended, maybe my board felling will improve a bit.
I've been told by my friend I skate with that my balance is visibly shifted to the front; I think maybe it's connected to my "push" issue? If not, I'd love to watch your vid for begginer skaters about balancing your weight on board (it's a bit embarrassing to ask for such a trivial thing, but hey, you've got to learn it somewhere).

This actually helped me a lot. I've been practicing skating and I've gotten fairly comfortable balancing on a moving board and I can turn left and right with my weight, but my push has been janky af. I've been doing that thing where I push too far back, like I reach my foot behind the board and so I'm not really getting much out of it.

This video works the same for learning to push Switch. I will say also for balancing on one leg is to do it over bumps, manholes and cracks to help for dexterity. Those bumpy dots for blind people at traffic crossings are really good for this also. Just skate back and forth over one of them for an hour and you'll master balancing on one foot. It's how I learned to push Switch!

This is SO important. I starded riding longboard couple months ago and oooh man...after an entire week I was able to push and stay both feet on the board. I know most people stand on a skate and just roll, for me I am very tall and I think that was something that bothered me for balance.

I got my board last Christmas, its a Deathwish board but I got it prebuilt with little research and am kind of paying the price for it. The board is 8'38 inch, and im 5'2-5'4 with a size 7 shoe so its a little big for me. The trucks are too small, the wheels are in between cruising and tricks which hardness which is not ideal, and the whole thing overall was pretty cheap since it was 110 or 120 with them building it for me for 10 bucks (and a included skate tool). I would say do your research 100%, I recommend the Tactics youtube channel and go for it if you're confident man. Ask more experienced people if you can too. This next birthday I'm gonna splurge for about a 200 dollar setup 🙏

@Please don’t rimshot me yea man I was planning on getting a baker deck. And I'm gonna jump down to an 8 inch too, independent trucks, skate junt griptape, red bone bearings, 1/8 independant risers, and spitfire wheels is the dream setup. I put together a setup online but I'm also heavily considering visiting a local shop cuz I know that's important.
