Not sure if this is common knowledge but the engine installed in the AC6000s was designed and developed by Deutz MWM in Mannheim, Germany and licenced to GE. The engine was designed to produce 6250 HP @1180 RPM. This is consided quite a high speed for an engine of this size. I was fortunate enough to be involved with the development of this engine and spent a lot of time in Germany in 1995. I later followed the prototype engine to GE in Erie and worked on the development of the engine in the locomotive. Thanks for uploading this video, brought back some fond memories. Take care.
Man, had I known that these were living in their final months of service, I would've made more of an effort to get these beasts. Nice compilation video of one of the greatest fleet of GEs to roam the rails.
Great video of the AC6000CW's in action! I forgot just how many of these CSX rostered. Ironically, I've seen more of these locos on NS trains (5 of them) then I ever did on CSX (0 of them). Thanks for sharing.
At least a couple of these guys should be in a railroad museum, unfortunately there is no SD90H saved anywhere. Both of these are iconic representitives from an exciting era of horsepower wars. The sad thing is both GE and GM/EMD are no longer even building locomtives.
I wonder how many of those AC6000CWs are actually 6000HP. Those engines were quite problematic, and many ended up downgraded to lower-horsepower engines.
SCL 256 Productions f*** EHH (E. Hunter Harrison) he gets rid all of the good locos including this one! F**k that E. HUNTER CLUSTER****!!!! #AC6000smustlive
Privateer Bouncher a handful were sold from PRLX to WNYP. A handful were scrapped, but some were spotted on CSX this year with the PRLX lettering. I’m guessing they were some that were finally sent out to PRLX
All except 2 or 3 AC60s(designated AC44s with 6000 carbody)have been sold and or retired from csx. All ACes are sold or retired completely from the roster.
YOU KNOW WHAT? I FOU D OUT THAT ONE OF THESE UNIQUE LOCOMOTIVES HAS BEEN PRESERVED, AND THAT SHE IS IN A MUSEUM!HER NUMBER IS 6002! CSX SHOULD HAVE KEPT SOME OF THESE IN REGULAR SERVICE!OH, HOW I MISS THEM! AT LEAST , ONE OF THEM GOT AWAY FROM THE SCRAPLINES!
All of the Big 6's were re-powered with 4,600 hp 16 cyl GEVO-16 engines and reclassified as CW46AC's, or AH's. That was just before they were sold to Progress Rail (PRLX).
I don't mean to be this guy but CSX isn't scrapping AC6000CW's. They've just rebuilt a large chunk of them, so they wouldn't have any reason to. They've actually stored all but one of their SD70ACe's, so if anything, you should be a lot more worried about those.
being down rated too t CW46AC's 4600 hp with the same ter 4 prime movers as the AH. number classes 5000 are 4400 hp-ah, while 600 class is a 4600 hp except one is 4000 hp and is now a CW44-AC. there dynamic brakes are second to none. they will keep that at full power. ps they still rain oil on the cat walk from the twin turbo stacks.
As of January 2019, only 3 locos, CSX 600-602, remain on the roster. Norfolk Southern still has about 40 of them on lease from PRLX, with that number on a steady decline as the leases expire.
Hey moron, get out of the past, it is a new ballgame! SD90 macs are gone as well, except for the frames. If GE is so bad, why do they have 70% of the new locomotive market? Get over the fact that your SD40's are disappearing!
mercurybullet 😄 Oh man, you must be a real winner to get mad at a u-tube comment! Why don't you study up a little bit and then maybe you can discuss it. Read up on GE vs Cat!
mercurybullet--ok bud, no use arguing with a wall. So you are an Aussie that worked on them, good for you! But you failed to note that the units were in service from 1999 to 2014. All eight engines replaced the 4000 hp units BHP Billington used before. Also the eight engines set a world record that still stands today of 98,000 tons. The train was 4.5 miles long with 682 cars and traveled a distance of 171 miles. The whole point being that both EMD and GE's 6000 hp units did not perform well until they replaced motors with 4000 or 4400 hp engines. BHP called them very successful units, but I guess you know more than they do. If they had ordered SD90MAC's, you probably would have said the same. Regards to you from the USA and I hope you have better success with the SD70ACE's!
Rip the AC6000s You will be missed

R.I.P ACes on CSX, too
At 7:43 the second unit
CW60AC #695, my friend and I went in the cab and got pics and video!!

Oh my gosh!! A lot of Beautiful K5LAs and K5HLs!! 😍😍

The SD80MACs were unique as well....I think those all got destroyed too...😔
I wonder how many of those AC6000CWs are actually 6000HP. Those engines were quite problematic, and many ended up downgraded to lower-horsepower engines.
Awesome video one of my favorite locomotive ever made
I love ac6000s,640 is my fav
In a recent interview with Hunter Harrison, he said they are being sold to UP and or being scrapped.

They are liars they are just being rebuilt
Tamika McFarlane spoiler alert it's true
@@tamikamcfarlane1073 they are scrapped now
When you hear a 600 number loco leading a CSX train
Good times. There's still 3 left 600-602
Great Video! I know 677 was already retired in 2013.
Ethan the Railfanner thanks
I wonder if GE will ever make another engine like the 6k
I didn't knew csx is retiring those Ac6000 locomotives. Those are bigger locomotive.
they are all being sold to PRLX as of April, 2018
And then?
Privateer Bouncher a handful were sold from PRLX to WNYP. A handful were scrapped, but some were spotted on CSX this year with the PRLX lettering. I’m guessing they were some that were finally sent out to PRLX
they are all in storage and are scheduled for scrap soon may they rest in pieces
SCL 256 Productions why wouldn’t UP buy them? Is CSX not allowing them? Or does nobody want them?
I knew they wasn't really about to scrap those bad boys the AC6000CWs
2:01 great crew
May the train gods keep these baby's in service on CSX even if they're gonna be repainted into yn3.
G- Man there not scrapping them they are gettting rebuilt
Rip ac6000cw
Yoyer Reyes yep
Very NICE !!!
Are they replacing the -8 series, SD70ACeS and AC6000CWs?

Railroads figured out locos in the 4500HP range are the most efficient for the size.
This is great footage in the middle of town . Where is this?
Marti Hill Fayetteville north carolina
SKProductions thanks SK.
Are they being rebuilt with 4400 12V GEVO or will keep 6000HP 16V engine?
Chen Xu none of the 6000s have 6000hp anymore. All 4400
All of the Big 6's were re-powered with 4,600 hp 16 cyl GEVO-16 engines and reclassified as CW46AC's, or AH's. That was just before they were sold to Progress Rail (PRLX).
Hakeem Sd70M So in theory they could be up-rated to 6250 hp as that’s what the GEVO-16 produces?
the csx ac6000cw is have a huge fuel tank
I don't mean to be this guy but CSX isn't scrapping AC6000CW's. They've just rebuilt a large chunk of them, so they wouldn't have any reason to. They've actually stored all but one of their SD70ACe's, so if anything, you should be a lot more worried about those.
They are scrapped now
You ain't gonna find a better engine from GE than those AC6000s
Terrence Goodwin I can agree to that
Terrence Goodwin Those ES44 are replacing those Ac6000. They look the same
0:57 SD70s in CSX?!
UP rebuilt all their AC6000CW's
Whats happening to the AC600CW,S???
LHSBoy ` storage eventually sold or scrapped
Thats not good 0_0
SKProductions who ever told u that they were going to get scrapped. They are not, they are going to be rebuilt

ac6000 aren't fully retired
CSXTrentonSubdivisonRailfan some of those AC6000 are still in service
As of January 2019, only 3 locos, CSX 600-602, remain on the roster. Norfolk Southern still has about 40 of them on lease from PRLX, with that number on a steady decline as the leases expire.
Shit locos that's why they are being retired.
BHP got rid of theirs years ago due to constant failures of the prime movers. Replaced them with ACe's.

broman700 you do have a point there

Why are they more outdated than Dash-9 and 8's? Maybe they didn't run as good as the other GE's
