Railfanning at Piscataway - Leasers, Foreigners, SD40-3's, and an RS5T: January 7, 2012

- On a beautiful day in the begining of the new year we went out to Piscataway, NJ to catch some trains. Both NS and CSX were bringing some awesome power, from Q300 with an SD40-3 leading, to 211 with a GMTX, NS (Ex-HLCX still in yellow,) and UP AC45CCTE lashup, to an NS C40-9W with an incredibly rare Leslie RS5T, to Q409 with a CREX trailing. Almost every train had something interesting on it.
The overall number of trains we caught on this day was amazing, and the good power made it even better!
Train 1: CSX Q300
Train 2: NS 20K
Train 3: NS 290
Train 4: NS 211
Train 5: CSX Q418
Train 6: NS 18N
Train 7: CSX Q703
Train 8: CSX Q702
Train 9: CSX Q409
Train 10: NS 33K
Great catches! Its pretty cool up there. My uncle had filmed trains for me when i was a kid and thats when Conrail was in service back in the early-mid 90's. It has changed a lot. Great video though. Keep them coming!

@amtrak3501 Thanks man! Yeah I still can't believe I got the chance to hear that! You're hearing correctly, this line is known as the Conrail Shared Assets Lehigh Line. It gives both CSX and NS the opprotunity to serve the customers in the area, so that's probably why it still says Conrail since it's technically a CSA line. Q702 and Q703 (as well as Q706/Q707) are garbage trains. Those containers are used to transport the garbage, both CSX and NS run garbage trains.
Oh yes i have them still. But i hope you don't mind my uncle talking to me. But their are a few awesome shots of a CR C40-8W Heading EB blowing through a pile of snow on the tracks it was Epic!! He filmed when it was the Blizzard of 1996. So the videos ill put on more than likely be in snow. I will find some of when their was B40-8's still in CR service too. Ill hopefully put them up. When they are up i hope you'll enjoy them.
I actually checked the crossing at Prospect when I was heading from Bound Brook to South Plainfield (just after Q418 rolled thru), I saw someone with a tripod there, must have been you.

This day was one of the best railfanning days I've had. I started in Bound Brook and ended in South Plainfield and yes, passed your setup at Prospect Ave. The equipment was quite something as well as the people I met. Great catch recording the lineup of trains.

@GenesisSanctuary Thanks man! Yeah an NS Dash 9 would be the last place I'd expect to find an RS5T. I'd love to know how it got there, that would be interesting.

NICE!! that RS5T was EPIC! was that detector in the background transmitting as Conrail still or my ears playing tricks on me? Also nice pwr on 211 and Q300. whats Q702 and Q703 suppose to be? never seen those cars before
@CSX6000 Thank you! It was insane when I first heard the horn, I couldn't believe it was on a Dash 9. Can you send me a link to the video? I'd love to hear as much of that horn as possible. Haha.

@KyleVideoDesigns Thanks Kyle, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have went out haha. I still can't get over that RS5T. This is why you don't go to BB, you might not here an epic horn if the engineer doesn't blow it. And it's always backlit ;)
