    I used to work at a casino in Iowa, and from my experience with various Blackjack games (Standard, Single-Deck, Double-Deck, Spanish etc), I've never seen the dealers keep the player cards face-down like that, nor are players allowed to touch the cards like that. But like they said, every casino and even state regulations are different, so mileage may vary! Tangent aside, I love coming to see what esoteric thing they're learning today!

      I've been around in MN/ND/SD casinos, and I've ran into a few where you touch your cards and scratch them against the table to hit. Pretty rare and there were other different rules I don't fully remember, but there's definitely some alternate ruleset around.

    As someone who works in the industry and also helps write/revise rules. All rules operated by casinos are openly available for their respective region online in a document commonly called a master file, rules folder or gazette. Id advise most people be aware of the specific variations of the games in play at the casino they are going to before they arrive. Its very common for people to expect all casinos operate in the same fashion. They dont.

      This is only if you're playing Shoe. Most single deck or double deck are actually dealt face down and while not forbidden, it is discouraged to say what you have. This is to minimize group strategy playing.

    • @user-fk8zw5js2p
      @user-fk8zw5js2p ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Playing with cards down will also minimize this interaction:
      Random player to you, "If you didn't take that hit, then I would have gotten 21."
      Your canned response to such nonsense, "If my aunt were a man, then she would be my uncle."

    • @michaelparham1328
      @michaelparham1328 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@CodyKillebrewI wouldn't say it hinders group strategy. It hinders card counters whether they're part of a group or if they're playing solo. Card counting hinges on knowing what cards have been played, and counting single or double deck games is very easy. So not showing the table your cards only hurts card counters. Keep in mind though, you're not playing against the other players, You're playing against the house. So snuffing out card counters as another player is only helping the casino, not yourself.

    A long long time ago, I entered my first casino in Vegas and decided to play 21. I knew the basic rules on how to play, but didn't understand how the table rules worked...I could not wrap my head around how everyone plays the dealer and the dealer was nice enough to try and give me some pointers, but oh boy...I knew I was out of my element and hopped off after like 5-10 hands and a guy across the table was actually mad at me.
    Never played a table since and I can count on 1 hand how many times I've been in a casino since. I go in, spend 20 bucks on the slots, lose it in 15minutes and leave. Or I go in, win 50 bucks on the slots and leave in 45 seconds.
    Thank you for this tutorial on proper 21 etiquette! I'm sure a young 21 year old will find this WAY more useful! I'll definitely come back here next time I decide to hit up a casino.

    From a Casino dealer, first off loved the episode please keep it up! Also thank you so much for bringing up tipping and tip betting it means alot (Also Jason any dealer would be lucky to have you at their table, consistently tip betting and also adding to the tip bet when splitting you are awesome)!
    A couple of points that are generally non casino exclusive
    Like you mentioned we are essentially "robots" in terms of running the games, but counter to how Brian phrased it we want you to win! (Unless your a dick) Casinos make much more money and way quicker money off of the slots, with table games now generally being a way to get people in the doors who don't like slots, so as far as we are concerned our employers (though we thank them for employing us) can get more money from those, we want you to win and even win big enough to be day/week/year/life changing!
    Also on the point of the 16 against the 10 whether or not to hit is really on your thinking (sorta half glass full or half empty sort of thing). Yes if you hit you are hoping for that one last chance to get a low card and beat the dealer, but if you don't hit you are betting that the dealer has a bad hand and has to hit then bust. In fact generally I notice that most people will not hit 16 as it can be seen as "taking a hand busting card" from the dealer if they do in fact have a bad hand
    Overall a great video and can't wait to see more from you guys! Please play responsibly and best of luck!
    (P.S. The casinos are really going to love you putting out a video about card counting, as I once heard a quote that all the resources about it only allow the casino to win more because people come in thinking they can count when they can't)

    My grandfather-in-law used to manage a casino and did so for 30+yrs. This was his advise for gambling:
    1st- don't do it. The house always wins
    2nd- If you do, go in with a set amount to gamble with, separate any winnings over your bet and never bet with them. Once you've spent your starting amount, stop. This way you never spend more than what you sought out to spend.
    For example: Start with $100 pool
    Bet 10 Lose. 90 Pool
    Bet 10 win 25. 90 pool 15 winning
    Bet 20 lose. 70 pool 15 winning
    Ect.
    at worst you only spent 86 of your 100 pool.

    Wait, you're saying most casinos sell you the basic strategy chart?! Do they actually let you use it at the table? If so I assume, the odds are still heavily in their favor even if everyone was following the chart without having to memorize it, and they probably overprice it and wouldn't allow any different copies of the chart besides the specific one they sell. I assume each casino would have their own specifically branded version of the chart.

    Most games in the casino work on odds. There is one game that is different - Bingo.
    Payouts in Bingo are fixed, so your odds depend upon how many people are playing. The fewer the higher your odds.
    So buy a condo outside a casino in Minnesota, and a snow mobile, and wait for a blizzard.

    • @TXLonghornFan22
      @TXLonghornFan22 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know a lot of bingo nowadays is not fixed payout, but based on a percentage of money earned from people playing. So the casino takes their percent (i.e. 20%), then the payout is whatever is left. So less people means lower payout

    I have never seen a casino play any cards face down, it's also a way for the dealer to help you by giving you your count.

      I’ve seen an uptick in Vegas spots leaning into 2-deck 21. I suspect they’re kinda double-daring you to try to card count, and offsetting the advantage with worse payouts on fringe bets (like insurance and blackjack)

      @@ModernRogue haha I mean that they can help you quickly establish the total number you have on the face value of your cards, as drinking and long days can hinder your math skills and they need to keep the game moving. Also on that note I usually see 6 decks being used on most blackjack tables. But 2 on the high buy in tables

    Blackjack, 21 is the name for kid friendly versions which leads them to gambling when their older anyways.
    Could use a few ping pong smoke balls to block out the casino cameras and just snatch some chips without the casino knowing unless the chips are rfid chipped.
    Basically the only way to beat the casino because they'll pull you because
    *"you're playing too good for our establishment."*
    In other words blaming you for card counting.
    *The player doesn't have cards facing down ever.*

    So here's my question. When it comes to an ace, how do you determine if it's a 1 or 11? Do you call it how you want it? Like (just for the sake of exame) i had a 9 and an Ace to total 20, but I want to try and force the dealer to bust, can I just say "I want the ace to be a 1" so I can draw one more card (while also having a high chance of hitting 20 again)? Or if I got an ace and a 5, which puts me at 16. I SHOULD hit cause I'm under 17, but that doesn't leave much room for error. Could I instead say make it a 1 so I have a 5 and a 1 totally 6? And then I have MUCH more room the play with?

    • @Jinado1
      @Jinado1 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a soft hand you can simply tap the table to hit if you want to hit. You never have to say out loud "the ace is a 1" or "the ace is an 11" because by the time you choose to stay, whatever value of your ace will give you the highest total value for your hand is the value the ace will have. So if you stay at a soft 20 (a 9 and an ace) it will be understood that you inted for it to be a 20 because anything else would just be worse for you xD

    So I don't think the dealer tipping ever worked, right? I'm gonna take a wild guess as to how this works, but someone please correct me if I'm mistaken. Suppose Jason had won one of the hands he added a $1 tip to, his base bet of $10 is doubled to $20 and the $1 is doubled to $2, then the dealer gets that $2?

    This isn’t relevant, but I did the simplest card trick in the book where you flip the deck upside down and lay the first card face down to a friend and then you show them the card they chose. He couldn’t figure it out even when I tried to explain it. I found that hilarious. How dumb can one be?
