It's wild how many hands Jason lost, and pushed. Holy fuck. Brian is the dark souls boss of all casinos.
In Las Vegas at least, you have to be properly 86'ed and escorted out in order to be charged with trespassing. They can't just say "leave" and have a cop waiting to arrest you before you can get out.
They definitely will sometimes have a cop sitting at the entrance waiting for you, though.
That cop will then serve with the paperwork and info that states "you will be breaking the law if you ever enter this property again" and they'll have you on your way.
@SuqMadiq Oh, absolutely. That's actually even pretty common. It's not the same as arresting you though. Also people forget that casino security in Las Vegas aren't powerless. They are in fact empowered by the licensee of the gaming establishment and the Gaming Commission of Nevada, and have a lot more authority than a normal security guard. So they can do a lot of that paperwork themselves. Also the reason they are called security officers and not security guards.
@@CodyKillebrewSecurity Officers take many forms, but guards usually only take one form.
It's kind of disgusting that the police effectively work for these companies that screw people over. This is why poor people gamble in casinos, but rich people gamble on the stock market
@@CodyKillebrewso what you're saying, better to do an armed robbery of a Casino than to try and play smart. Gotcha.
I love how Brian is trying to teach Jason how to take advantage and Jason is STILL losing his shirt the entire time. (except the one time he should have won when Brian said he lost)
17:10 damn you editor.... as someone who counts recreationally it's now even harder to keep track of what's going on because I'm appreciating how well this is cut and the audio is spliced!
I'm confused, what does this comment mean? Is it just a compliment to the editors with a reference to the video? Or is it actually a complaint?
@@lilyofluck371 As someone who knows a little "behind the scenes" of both video editing and card counting it was really hard to keep track of both the card counting stuff and the video editing stuff since it was specifically called out in the edit. Had the editor not mentioned anything I would never have been the wiser and only focused on the card counting stuff. The comment was ribbing the editor for calling it out since they must have been so confident that even an esoteric pedant like me wouldn't notice any errors.
Another thing casinos can do is say "this table is now flat bet of X, you can't change your bet hand to hand." Kills a LOT of the edge advantage play can give, as it involves bet low when the deck is bad, bet high when the deck is in your favor.
can you skip hands and just not play a hand then? I bet they try to make you leave then, but can you?
I'm not sure how a casino would handle this blackjack situation. But in texas hold'em if you need to leave the table (bathroom break for example) and want to come back later (full table and people are waiting to sit in the first empty seat), you have to leave your chips so the dealer can pay the blinds when it's your turn the same as if you were there in person. So, it is handled like you fold every hand (without getting dealt one) until you get back. This stops people from choosing to not play when it's their turn to pay the big or little blind or be in a weak position (due to turn order).
I was thinking the same, kind of a bullshit move honestly. I'd rather them just back me off, at least I'd feel skilled lol
@@icebergslim1872 for realz, there are few feelings like hitting a winning streak and having the pit bosses shower you with freebees to keep playing.

Hi Brandt! We love you, thank you for all you do. Good to see you again
Well, no. In most states with casinos, the law plainly states that in order for you to be "trespassed", you must be verbally informed of the tresspass by the police, and then if you refuse to leave you OR you return to the casino, you'll be arrested.
Caveat emptor: all those same states have laws preventing casinos from refusing to cash you out, and they can't have you tresspassed as a means of denying you your legal right to claim your winnings. You'd still be allowed to cash out and you could sue the casino AND the city/state for violating state law if you're tressspassed while being denied the right to cash out. Basically, the casino can't bar you from entering the premises while they owe you money.
That's when the guys with really hard knuckles are waiting for you in the parking lot.
At around 17:10 I yelled "surrender" and then remembered that outside of a couple places, surrender's not an option for something like 16 v 10. However, the count is still positive, so a counter would stand on 16 v 10, if surrender is not offered.
23:00 - 14 against 3 is a stand.
24:00 - 12 against 2 is definitely a hit at that count.
27:00 - 15 against 7 is still a hit.
At the end, you guys did take away the core lessons of why card counting works and how to do it, so kudos on that. Just please don't even try this at a casino without knowing basic strategy.
Thank you
Jason got really unlucky but that shows the importance of having a decent bankroll when you're counting. Statistically if you count and bet appropriate you just barely have an edge, but that's over the long term. It's very possible to lose a lot of money one day doing everything perfectly. You'll eventually make it up and more but you need to be able to come back later.
Right, it's not a cheat code, the cards are still random. But it does tell you statistically when face cards are more likely to come out, and if you play well with that information you should end up on top more often than not.
Brian's explanation is extremely accurate. I know due to being a casino employee.

Brian showed that sometimes the dealer messes up.
In addition to keeping track, you have to watch for dealer mistakes, where they may say you lost, when you actually won.
Also, there is a lot more to this than what is in the video. This is a good start, but you need to know a "true count" and it's important to know the laws, because a pit boss or security will sometimes lie to you, because they want to keep your money and ban you.
I've watched a lot of videos, but I don't know basic strategy.
I've been looking for an in depth tutorial for this. Went to one casino my whole life and I've been vengeful ever since
Went to Vegas, tried this out. Lost all my chips but hot damn I gained so much information
In the US that's not how trespassing works it may happen that way but legally that's not how it works and when you go to court the judge will throw it out. You have to be asked to leave a formal trespass filled out and sent to you THEN if you go back you are violating it.
Security Guard. In some States verbal is enough, so it's very easy to fudge someone into an arrest, although it's unlikely for it to stick
In some states if you are asked to leave and refuse that’s trespassing. However there’s no legal requirement for how fast you Ned to just that it must be a reasonable amount of time. Ie you can stop and cash out, grab your coat, drink the last swig of beer on the way but you can’t stop to use the bathroom
@Ebolson1019 in no state can you legally be arrested for trespassing at the same time you were JUST told you aren't welcome.
@@GodBroly most laws utilize implied consent, the idea that if a business is open they are giving everyone the consent to enter. As soon as they ask you to leave that implied consent is lost and you are now on the property without the owners consent. Under California Penal Code Section 602 PC refusing or failing to leave a private property (business count) after being asked to leave that is considered trespassing.
In most states (like my home state of wi) use implied consent but also state that this only is consent to entering not remaining so once you’re on you can legally stay but if you leave you can’t come back. This said if you don’t leave after being asked to you can still be arrested. Say a bartender asks you to leave and you refuse, you’ll be charged with obstructing the operation of a business but not trespassing.
@@punishedwhispers1218thus why it's important to always always always thoroughly record any interaction with security or police. Especially in a casino. Record it and record asking the question, "may I cash in my earnings before leaving" and follow their instructions. If they say no, they have the legal right to ask you to leave since you're on their private property. But not the right to withhold your winnings, do as they say to avoid arrest from trespassing but follow up with the officers and if needed a lawsuit. If they say yes, they gave you permission to take your current winnings, cash them in, and leave, no arrest charge will go through, even if you're arrested the charges will likely be dropped given that evidence of what you're given permission to do. Ultimately the casino wants a peaceful encounter, and for you to leave and never come back.
Some casinos allow surrender where you give up your 2 cards and get half your money back, basic strategy says to do it when you have 16 against 9,10 or A, or if you have 15 against a 10
I’d like to see this video again, but with 2 people playing separate hands. One counting cards and doing basic strategy, and one only using basic strategy
When learning to count cards, you MUST, in order never failed at
- basic strat
- keeping a correct running total
- bettering strat (for pros, this is actually the hardest part, since you need to ALWAYS follow whatever rule set you use. And it needs to adapt to your total bank roll)
i think this should have been mention at some point between @24:15 - @25:15 when jason was giving betting advice and mentioned he is no pro.
This is why, if you are doing the right thing for the first 2 steps, but then you but too much, in either direction, even when you SHOUDL be better more/less, you can really put yourself behind, even if everything else is perfect./
Hi mister editor.. it was good to see you too. Thanks your doing a great job brother. 😂
Ya'll should get Steven Bridges on for card counting episodes. He's from England and likes to come over here to card count on a VERY HIGH LEVEL.
Great explanation! But I love how basic strategy with a fixed bet usually won or didn't lose much, but the counting one lost immensely lot 😂
Well I was thinking about it and yeah when the deck is low and full of tens you have a better chance of getting tens, but then again the dealer does as well, right? So with 6 decks and keeping up with a true count and getting something like D14 or something then you could really make some money. What they were doing never really had a good running count to bet higher on. From what I can understand anyways. (Which ain't much lemme tell ya)
Lmao, ends up insanely negative even while counting 😂
It's because they aren't playing very many hands.
Actual counting is something you do over hours, multiple days in a row. You might be down thousands of dollars in the beginning and don't start striking it big till later.
You can think of the strategy more as "at any one point you may be up or down, but in the future you are more likely to be up than not".
@SuqMadiq I know, I was just poking fun. He even says it's a long run strategy in the video. Statistically, you make money eventually.
@@Zzucc It does make it look bad, lmao
card counting with blackjack only gives like a 1-3% edge.
Casinos are gonna start checking if customers follow this channel or not!😂
Well card counting has been some what widely known since the release of "beat the dealer in the 50s'
How you doing Brian brushwood and Jason Murray when I was a kid watching your show on TH-cam I responded once with please respond and you guys replied “no” just wanted to let you know that made my day back then and I think back fondly of it
Definitely get the blackjack apprentice guy on
Me card- counting friend often does it, but he only plays at lower-stakes tables. Our theory is that they don't bother booting him because a table with action makes it look like a hot casino. On most trips he ends up roughly paying for the trip but not making a profit.
Surveillance and pit bosses have way more to worry about than someone making $5/hour EV *at best*. Dealer errors cost the casino more money than your friend is taking from them on any given night
Holy cow, Jason got so shafted the entire time.
Jason has yet to learn Vegas' BIGGEST LESSONS. The most famous is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia." But only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against a Magician when cards are involved".. also, something, something, the House always wins
Yes! The video we've all been waiting for
Hi Mr editor you did a fantastic job! Going to the casino for my birthday soon with the mindset I'll lose my birthday money bless all!
You guys need to revisit this with Steven Bridges!
Legend has it that Jason is still playing now and still hasn't got a blackjack
I work at as security in a casino and when people card count we trespass them and they don't get arrested unless they try to fight us but usually they are cool and know what's up
hi Brandt! nice to see you!
If you're counting cards (well...) it's really, really important to know the laws in the state you're playing in. While they can tresspass you, they have to give you the opportunity to leave. The also have to pay you out (unless you used a mechanical device to cheat) in most states. It's not illegal to count cards. This isn't legal advice, I'm not a lawyer, look up the laws in the states your playing at.
This is interesting I neither confirm nor deny that I will do anything with this info
Get Steven bridges to teach both of you card counting. He's gone to Vegas and a bunch of other casinos.
You guys should try craps, seeing as how you mentioned it’s the only other casino game that is closer to a handshake than a face slap haha. Also, it can be fun and Brian loves dice!
The reason having a positive count is good for the player is because your only advantage you have in the game is getting a Blackjack since it's the only thing that pays more than 1:1. You are betting more money when you have a higher likelihood of getting a blackjack and then you change how you play based on the current odds to lose as slowly as possible.
That's half correct. The other reason high counts favor the player is because the dealer is at a higher risk of busting with more 10s remaining
Funnily enough you can go hours of very clearly card counting if you are constantly tossing a portion of your winnings towards just buying people around the casino drinks. They notice when somebody is winning, they notice when somebody is winning enough that they are card counting, and then they get a lot less angry when you are just spending that money on buying drinks.
At my local casino I know they have caught on to me because they have outright told me that I was buying a few too many drinks and I was cutting into my cut of the profits for the night. That tells you that they know what's going on. I also know that they would rather one guy be winning and making a show of it by spending their money in a visible way then they would like to throw me out and keep a little bit of extra money. Because every time I end up making a show of buying the next couple of drinks that plants and idea that they too can be winning so much to be an idiot with their money.
Brian I bet you and Colin Jones would get along really well. Maybe you could do his podcast!
Hi Brandt! Love you
when you try to teach card counting but the dealer has all the luck
Are there any other Founder member who also think that our plaque hanging in the background feels like a captured Han Solo in Jaba's Palace? Or is that just me?
Trust the count and keep basic strategy for only when you lose the count. By the looks of it more 10's come out when the count is low and less when the count is high. So if the count is high, the dealer's facedown card is probably not a 10. High count means even -5 to -6 anything less than 5 should be considered a low count (meaning more 10's will be dealt), anything more should be considered high count (meaning less 10's will be dealt). From your count, trust your instincts and math ability to determine what has to happen for you to win and the dealer to bust, you don't need a big number to win, but the dealer has to take another card up to 16, they have no choice about it.
That being said, the casino industry depends on your need to win, aka your level of greed, so the best way to win is to just have fun... don't gamble with money you are not willing to lose!
i can just hear in Brians voice "i have done too many squarespace ads..."
Man watching this one late.
But Jason just got his butt whipped.
Watching both games go on hurts my brain
even if you learn how to count cards and "forget how to do it", you'll still retain that base instinct and do better than you did before.
I have a quick question aboh vegas. Can you ask the casino do understand, for a basic run down? Like for example if a card falls off a table what do I do?
You never touch the cards in Vegas so that can't happen.
MURPHY!!
Is it just me, or did they lose/push every hand? They would have won that one hand; but apparently the dealer wins on 22 now.
Now this but uno as a vid
Is it just me or did the count get thrown off a couple times.
All I got from this video is that if you make 20 bets of $25 and lose, and then make 1 bet of $50 and win, you somehow come out ahead.
Ok so somebody explain this to me in simpler terms.
A higher positive number means more likely for a 10 to be drawn whereas a negative number means it’s more likely for a 2-6 to be drawn? While this intuitively makes sense I feel like Jason honestly didn’t do any better than your average guesser even with this knowledge. (No diss on Jason , just looking at the numbers$
well, with things like this the advantage is very small and will only become clear after a large number of hands (more than several hundred).
So its' very possible to play better than normal and still lose money because it's a high luck game with an aspect of skill rather than a high skill low luck game.
I almost want to program a simulation of this to see how often advantage play actually results in a net win over time. I'm over here laughing at how advantage play is losing tons of money.
yeah it's rough when you only look at a section of 20 or so hands out of the hundreds to thousands you're expected to play ;p
I’m working on a python bot i’ll let you know
theres a guy on youtube named steven bridges who counts cards at casinos. you should check him out
Plenty people have. Depends on the rule set. Can be a few hundred dollars per hour with a five percent risk of ruin. You been a huge back roll though cos of variance.
I'm too autistic to go to a casino i'd be so fucken paranoid I'd do something wrong, plus I just know i'd develop a gambling addiction
It shouldn't be illegal to use your noodle for statistical analysis.
It's not "Illegal" per say. But, it is bad for the casino. They lose money. At which point, they ask you to leave, which is well within their rights to refuse service. If you stay or come back, you are trespassing. Which IS illegal. You're not going to get arrested for counting cards. You'll get arrested for trespassing. And, basically, barred from all the casinos.
@@shawnhagerich2559 Maybe the word "illegal" was the wrong one to use in this context, but it seems extremely unfair for a casino (they'll make money anyway) to just expel a person because they're using their noodle.
The problem with your card counting strategy, a 10 rich deck means the higher the chance of busting with one card. You're better off on a negative to get closer to 21 with lower value cards. You have more flexibility. A 10 rich deck is good for aiming for blackjacks, but is also raising the odds for the dealer, risking your higher bets.
But how does this help me play "a-hole blackjack"?
That’s not how trespassing works, they can’t arrest you like that, let me be clear you will not be arrested ever for card counting, you’ll be “backed off” which is where they say “You can’t play blackjack” or they might kick you out and trespass you, but someone who is making an attempt to leave can’t be arrested for not leaving, also you’re legally required to be allowed to cash out
So can you convince the casinos you're that far in your drinks without even being close to that far drunk?
Oklahoma counting cards is legal so long as you dont use a tool or device or some physical piece of equipment to do the counting. Basically it must be brain math
You should learn to play Baccarat
A lot of people are saying "That isn't how trespassing works", but it doesn't matter what the law actually says, you can still be arrested. Keeping it exclusively to card counters there are videos of casinos, security, police and even gaming commissions making up a load of rubbish and attempting to break the law themselves when backing off card counters. Police can and will use probable cause to arrest people. You likely won't be charged but you can be arrested and held for made up rubbish.
Police are the people on the scene with the guns. In that moment whatever they say goes. The law and the court determines whether or not what they do or say is legal and whether or not you're actually in trouble, but you still might spend a night or two in the cells before you get to see a judge.
Same thing I tell people at know your rights trainings.
Counting cards is cool but... how I do with less likelyhood of getting caught? 😂😂😂😂 Lol. For a friend
The big things are how you bet, how you interact with the table, and also some people will specifically deviate away from basic strategy every now and then to appear less obvious. Sometimes called camouflaging I believe, play bad when the count isn't great so it looks like you don't know what you're doing. It slightly hurts your overall EV but you can actually reach EV more reliably if you're not getting backed off constantly.
I'm gonna try on Poker Stars vr
Did you stack every hand you dealt? Lol
Did Bryan get a little ... Dough-ish in the face? Or am i tripping?
False, you cannot be trespassed by an establishment without documentation (notice of trespass). so the way trespassing works is that if you are trespassed you have to leave, then if you return it's considered trespassing, yes the law does state that if you remain behind then you can be considered to be trespassed but they have so many cameras, I'd love for them to tell me that I remained behind, would be a great win in court. Thats how I read the law anyways.
Tresspass isnt illegal in the UK, except where there's legislation saying it is - the railways, royal residences, etc.
Collaborate with Steven Bridges for card counter
Worked casinos for over a decade now and we pick up counters pretty quickly, dealer gets changed, shoe cut deeper off the back and while this happens surveillance is finding the best angle of you face and then you get backed off, you are welcome to play other games but try blackjack again and you get escorted off and are not welcome back
Im trying to understand, but Im failing miserably :P
The dealer made way too many mistakes.
I'm sure the shift manager had a word with him in the office on his next break
I love that this entire thing has proven the house wins...
"To demonstrate card counting we are going to directly compare counting with just doing basic strategy" Basic strategy proceeds to consistently out perform the counting method.
Omg, ace becomes 1 with the dealing of a third card... 25:00 like the 3rd time brians missed it

The amount of basic strategy that was broken in this video, hurts my soul I’m at a table and somebody hits a 16 versus a dealer 2 up Card I’m leaving that table
Why leave the table? Their game doesn't affect yours
The funny thing is at my local casino. I tell them I’m counting. They let me play still. It’s a fever psychology tactic I’ve learned. I tell them I purposely lose a bit win a few still walk out with a nice pot. And do it again next time. Now that’s a scam school trick
In Vegas you see all players cards.
Only on shoe games. Pitch games are still dealt face down
Just dont play blackjack kids
Sounds cool. Means nothing. Anybody who actually plays blackjack counts, of course. Multiple decks makes math slower
(and more precise. Larger sample = better data).
Maybe this plus/minus subroutine is already running in my brain on some limbic level, but it's not something I "think"....or actively utilize...
Well intentioned, well presented, but not, for me, a thing.
