The Story of Neverland Ranch | What Happened to Michael Jackson's Dream Home?

    During the 1990s and early 2000s, Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch was one of the most well known pieces of real estate on the planet. It was Jackson's personal home and had everything a child could imagine. Arcade games, carnival rides, a movie theater, zoo, train, 4 acre lake with waterfall, and plenty of sycamore trees to decorate and shade the property. Jackson would own the ranch from 1988 to his death in 2009 (losing his majority share in 2006). After the revelations in the documentary Leaving Neverland, fans have had to look at the pop star and Neverland Ranch's legacy in a new light and as of the December 2020, after being on the market since Jackson's death, the ranch finally found a new owner. It sat abandoned and only minimally maintained during that time. Now we have to wait and see what the new owner plans to do with the property. Join me in this video as we explore the origins, highlights, and downfall of Neverland Ranch.
    Corrections in order they appear in the video:
    1. Please acknowledge this was episode two of the series, and one of the first on the revival of the channel. Yes, the voice over was not perfect, not every single bit of research was perfect, the writing could have been better, but the main aspects of the story are accurate. To further ask for forgiveness, I posted this with less than 300 subscribers to my channel.
    2. There is a popping noise right when the Earth starts spinning in the beginning that slip passed me in the final edits.
    3. The intro music is deliberately louder the 2nd half of the intro, however your ability to distiguish this greatly depends on what device you are watching the video on.
    4. He only had one zipper ride, not four.
    5. One of the sources I consulted suggested that as a part of his debt, he was paying $1,000,000 for staff at the ranch annually. Logic and California Labor laws disagree with this. This figure and the number of staff he had came from two different sources.
    6. What the police found at the ranch and confiscated are accurate. They found two photography books depicting explicit young boys and girls, but found much more normal adult entertainment material.
    7. I have read the name Sotheby's close to a hundred times, but had never heard it said out loud. I naively didn't think to check the pronunciation before recording.

      Correction 6 is still inaccurate. Possession of cp is a criminal offense. If there had been any present, he would have been convicted. I’ve actually seen video footage of the police during the raid where they admit to have found nothing incriminating.

    I spent one incredible day at the ranch for the birthday party of his dermatologist. Played video games in the guest building, rode the ferris wheel, watched a movie in the movie theater, got to see all of the animals, had lunch by the pool and dinner in Michael's dining room. The staff waited on guests hand and foot, and there was a phone system to call them up to operate rides or do whatever you needed. We had free use of the many electric golf carts on property. I had the opportunity to stay the night in the main house, but stupidly decided I should head back for my home in Orange County. It was one of those experiences you can never forget--I only wish we didn't have to turn in all cell phones or cameras before coming onto the property. But I did receive an autographed menu of Neverland Ranch that I will keep the rest of my days. And I' hope to always have the memories from that day. Thanks for the video!

    I grew up a few miles from Neverland Ranch. Michael would dress up occasionally as a homeless man to be around normal people. Why is it so hard for people to grasp why Michael wanted to surround himself with children? They wanted nothing from him, they didn’t judge him, he was just a regular guy. They didn’t use him for their own selfish reasons. Michael gave himself the childhood he dreamed of. With no beatings no 18 hour days of practicing. I believe Michael was in a state of arrested development. He lived a hard but charmed life. This was his escape.

    I got to spend 5 days at Neverland in 2002 (Chris Tucker was a friend from before he was famous and we called ourselves "working," but not much got done 😆), and let me tell you, that place was everything you could imagine it was - and then some. It was the dirtiest and most gloriously tired that I ever was - or ever will be - as an adult. Armageddon could have been going on outside those gates and we wouldn't have known it - and I lost touch with reality almost immediately lol. One morning, while I was sitting outside the backdoor of the main house with my laptop "working," a guy walked up with an elephant and a baby deer on a leash. I was less than two days in and it seemed perfectly normal 🤷‍♀. Apparently, the elephant got treats on Mondays (especially muffins) and I just happened to be there. Next thing I know, my whole right arm is down the elephant's throat giving her a can of Mountain Dew. WTF?!?! Then Chris comes around the corner dressed head to toe in full-on Arab garb... and I didn't ask any questions. I also didn't think it was weird a little while later when I saw Chris (still in that get-up) walking that baby deer (like it was a puppy) across the bridge over the lake behind our guest cottages. Neverland was a "bubble" like no other. In the theater, while making plans for what we'd do when we went back home, Chris said, "So when we get back to the "states"..." Mind you, we'd gotten to Neverland on a bus from his house, and we were about a three hour drive from Los Angeles lol. And then MJ came home on day three. Seeing him be a regular dad was just... there are no words.

    Huge, huge, huge, documentary. Michael Jackson was a musical genius. A talent of which the world will never see again. His Property should have been saved and restored for generations to be able to see it instead of tearing aspects of it down and being sold. He gave so much to the world in terms of music and entertainment and hundreds of millions of dollars to charities. Your documentary mentioned that a family friend bought it. I believe he will do the right thing. I drove out to the gates of Neverland 3 times in the past 30 days. This documentary gives me a greater perspective of what was on the other side of the gate. Thank you so much. I will always love you Michael. Always and forever.

He purchases these properties to maintain their history, not to tear down and build McMansions like so many developers in LA. Happy that he is the new owner. He will do right by Neverland property as he has with other purchases. I wish there were more Ron Burkle's in the world that maintain the history of landmark Old Hollywood homes. I know Elon Musk sold Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner's home to their nephew, to refrain from another developer building a McMansion in its place.

My dream home would be a 15ft x 30ft one bedroom house up on a hill on an acre of land with a detached 30ft x 60ft Garage down near the road. I'll never see it but if by some stroke of luck I do, I'll never invite any kids or open myself up for charges or a lawsuit like that. I'll be careful about allowing adults on my property for fear even they would accuse me of something.

    My mom loved Michael and hoped to marry him, so she would drive us up there to sit outside of the gate whenever we had a spare weekend. We became friends with the workers and a higher up named Jesus, who let us in once to watch a movie in the theatre (free candy and popcorn), and ride the bumper cars, I also played on the trampolines that were flush with the ground right behind the house, and climbed up halfway to a treehouse in one of the trees around the house. Later during his final trial, we went up to support him and everyone who came was given a Dodo bird plushie and an invite to Neverland, that was the second time we went and everyone was there. I never went in his house or saw the zoo, but it was very cool, sometimes idolising a superstar gives your kids nice memories lol. RIP, Michael. 👑 🎤

      I don’t believe he molested children. I also believe he was asexual. However he was wrong in his thinking that having boys sleep in his bed was ok. He should have known better. And he did manipulate the families and vise versa. It went both ways. I think his ego got in the way of good judgment. He wasn’t SO childlike that he couldn’t see what that could lead to in the eyes of the law and the public. He made very big bi decisions. Also has a real spending problem. But I still see him as a good person. I think he grew up way too fast with a cruel overbearing father and his fame overshadowed the biggest stars. Only Marilyn Elvis and the Beatles ever experienced that level of idol worship

  • @tybarker5038
    @tybarker5038 2 ปีที่แล้ว +220

    I think Michael Jackson had something happen in his mind growing up as a child star that maybe, being a child was his identity and he could never let go of that. And he probably didn’t get stable friends being on the road as a traveling star. So when he was older and had more fame, he still managed to have that child like vision of himself and the friends he felt he missed out on. It’s easy to judge but can you imagine growing up living like adults do and completely missing out on a normal childhood we all take for granted? The stardom sounds wonderful but we’ve all heard many instances where it has it’s downsides. So like many have said, he’s basically a child that never grew up, hence the name Neverland. Like, it’s fine when two kids hang out together. But of course because of our dark world, an adult and a child hanging out together privately often can lead to no good and it’s unusual so people will draw their suspicions but when you truly grasp how Michael Jackson was raised and how little of a childhood he actually got to have, it’s easier to make sense of his need to have young boys as friends. I don’t believe he touched them wrongfully, they would have come out and said so. Even Macaulay Culkin vouched for him.

      @mrsTraveller64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Ty Barker, the Osmonds also grew up without a normal childhood, they travelled, practised singing and dancing constantly, had almost no time or opportunity for friends and games. They were not allowed to bring any friends to their home. We haven't heard anyone of them having the need as adults to "deal" with children! The biggest difference for them was that they loved their father, the Jacksons didn't love THEIR father from what I understand. So no matter what kind of childhood MJ had or didn't have wasn't the sole reason for him wanting to play or "play" with children as an adult. And none of his siblings ended up like him although they missed out on their childhood as much as MJ.

      @@mrsTraveller64 I’m not saying all people with a similar upbringing will be this way, I just speculate there was something going on with this guy. He just loved children. Same with Mr. Rogers. And it’s sad that society seems very suspicious of an adult who loves children because children need adults who believe in them, encourage them and teach them. Of course, the boundary should never be crossed though. Idk, I’d just feel like a bad person for wrongly accusing someone of being a pedophile if they weren’t. That’s a heavy label to put on someone.

      he was not a child. He himself said there is difference between childlike wonder and being childish. Bringing childlike vision on pedestal is typical for most great artists from Michalangelo to Kurt Cobain. It helps to keep your perspective fresh and not stop learning. Him being a child is another lie that tabloids made about him

    He didn't do anything wrong! I was a tour electrician in 1988 on the bad tour. He fell in love with the electric guitar and was bitten by the rock bug. He didn't want to sign a record deal because he was told, "you are a discotheque singer!" He knew he was a rocker! " you will do as we say, or else!" Roumors were spread , it was worth billions and billions. Yes, eventually he re-signed the contracts. He wasn't allowed his personal touch on his creative genius. Hence, all the trouble.
