Oxhorn, very nice video. My son introduced me to your videos because, due to easy onset motion sickness, I can't play FO3 or beyond. However I am old enough that I have the old games and a PC to play them on. One quick comment about Tycho, at 26:40 or so if you asked him how he survived instead of saying that is a long trip and then follow that conversation thread he will teach you some things to bump up your Outdoorsman skill. Thanks again for your videos, we tend to listen to them on car trips and your insights help spark conversations. Always helpful with a teenage son.

James Smith and don't forget the guy at the other end of town, Richard Dean Anderson, the voice of MacGyver! Casting these two greats for this fantastic early side quest really sold Fallout for me and many other fans.
If I recall correctly, yes. it might have been influenced by certain factors (charisma, speech, luck, or something). The thing about that is, it's not a good idea to tell ANYONE you're from a Vault- Although Vault 15 had an internal conflict, someone blew that door off. It wasn't other Vault 15 members. whoever they were, they found the vault because of those who left.
There is also a "tell me about" option where you can type in whatever you want. They know some things, like last episode oxhorn asked Tandy about Seth. There's so much secret dialogue that we don't even get in the options. :D Edit: and now there is ai generated dialog! (mods) based on what the character knows. So far I've only seen it on fallout new vegas.

You missed the Mad Max reference when you got Dogmeat. A leatherclad traveller with a shotgun is a perfect description of him, and the accent mentioned was because Mad Max is Australian.
Oxhorn, when I enter a settlement, I keep one item slot with a weapon in it, and one slot with nothing in it. I walk around with the nothing slot equipped so the guards don't get mad, but I keep a weapon in the other so I don't have to waste action points to get it during combat in the settlement.
yeah, I keep my "feet" slot with lockpicks and "hands" with a gun. The other nice thing about this is you can just switch to lockpicks. Also, when you are inspecting/opening containers you don't have to wait for that animation of putting your weapon away each time

I usually use H2H, and so I keep one empty, and the other with a throwing weapon (rock, spear, grenade) when needed, so same basic principal. I admit, that worked better in Fallout2 though, they did a better job with the martial arts (and made more sense to be using rocks and spears there).

Pair with a chef who cooks jerky and talks to their customers, as well as being able to draw and write.. I would say it adds up.
I'm pretty sure the Desert Ranger in Junktown also will raise your Outdoorsmen skill if you ask him how he survived all that time. Also with the hostage in the hotel if you do it peacefully you'll gain 1,000xp instead of 400xp if you just kill him.
anyone think about that it would be like if all the main fallout characters came together the vault dweller and chosen could be resurrected somehow and the wandere could come to Boston to find macready and run into the sole survivor with macready and the courier could be in a vertibird cause he sided with the brotherhood in NV and fly to the capital wasteland the wandere and sole survivor see the vertibird crash do to a malfunction the courier was the only one to survive but landed in the middle of the war zone then the rest is up to the developers
This is either a bug on my end or just something rare/weird that happens during the Boxing Matches, but sometimes the Challenger could be a Mole Rat or even a Radscorpion. I don't know if anyone else has experienced that before, but I thought it was kind of funny.
If that Mauser C96 gizmo had on him was a 9mm then that means it's a rare German "Red 9". It was a weapon used in WW1 modified to hold 9mm bullets and a red 9 was engraved on the side, I think it was modified for the German storm troopers. Great easter egg if that's the case.
Or, you know, they just assumed it used 9mm because Lugars do? I can guarantee most people with only a passing familiarity with guns would think as much instead of 7/8mm Mauser...
This is so cool! I played Fallout 1 and 2 after the modern fallout games and I love them just as much. I'm super excited to see one of my favorite people making videos on those VERY underrated games.
I have been listening the past 2 nights going to bed listening to this. What i really like is that i can experience the entirety of Fallout 1 as an Audio-Book, great experience, I really like you also read all the text that the game didnt have voice overs for, and also just other ingame texts. Most other people that do playthroughs, usally skip through those normal ingame messages, or have an attitude, of "If people want to read it, they can pause the video, im moving on." But you actually treat us with everything, and i love it. Thankyou !!!
I've loved the entire Fallout series since this very game. Since I don't have a computer old enough to play it anymore, nor the computer skills to patch a newer one to, being able to see these video's brings me back to the original wonder that got me addicted to the series. Thank you Ox, for bringing back some of my best gaming memories.

Oxhorn is a master of lies. He only does these videos for money. Nth Apple did his videos for free and didn't ask people to give him money like Ox does. Also, Nth Apple didn't spout lies in his videos either.
The stories in Fallout 1 were so much more complex than in the Bethesda games. There were so many ways they could shake out, too. It's kinda sad that got thrown to the wayside in favor of an increased focus on FPS combat.
They had other teams come in to improve fallout 4's combat how exactly does improving the combat result in their more linear quest design they seem like two unrelated points
Well it's more a common complaint that came out of Fallout 3 and stuck around. Fallout 3 actually has a lot of ways to accomplish quests. Take for example when you first enter Little Lamplight. If you have good speech or the Child at Heart perk you can get in regardless. Or they send you on a similar slaver quest to free captive slaves ala Tandi from Shady Sands in Fallout 1. Where there is a variety of ways to complete that including bare minimal work, just paying out caps for the slaves, murdering everyone there, tricking someone into walking to their death so you can get a kid out, distracting guards with prostitutes, etc. A lot of Fallout 3 in particular worked like that. But for some reason it got the attention for not having multiple routes and just focusing on gunplay. Which carried over to fallout 4 because they polished up the gunplay. Though both have the black mark against them of simplifying (in a lot of cases) the options. Like if you want to talk your way past the final boss in Fallout 3 it's just two speech checks, which can be auto passed with a high Charisma and Speech. Nothing else to it. While in Fallout 1 it didn't matter how much you put into Speech and Charisma, if you didn't actually have the evidence to talk The Master around. Which required you exploring enough to find the evidence instead of just sinking points when you level up. There are things the older Fallout Isometric days did I wish were in the newer ones. For example in the newer ones you just find bobbleheads or magazines/books to increase skills. While in Fallout 1 and 2 there often was a little favor you had to do for someone or dialogue option to pick up where they'd take the time to teach you the skill, from improving things like Guns and Unarmed to learning how to skin Geckos. It gets to the same end point as it were (Your friend from the tribe in Fallout 2 raises your Melee and Unarmed skill for example). But one is a case of interacting with people, the other is a case of interacting with the environment (Finding locations to loot that have that particular loot). There's strengths and weaknesses to either way. In particular I like how Fallout 4 made it at least context related to the point where you could guess. Like want a copy of Guns and Bullets to increase your gun crits? Where would you find it? Well things like Military Bases and Military Checkpoints. Makes sense. You want the Surgical Journals to increase limb damage done? Where are they? Libraries and Hospitals. Which similarly makes sense. The old fallouts it could be a little obscure unless you were save scumming to explore every potential dialogue option, not knowing what would lead to what (And honestly not a way I played RPGs then or now). Just having to experiment with what NPC and what particular dialogue chain leads to what potential benefit. I probably wouldn't have minded in Fallout 1 in particular that level of experimentation and exploration needed.... if not for the hard time limits in the game. Like getting a bad end for the Followers of the Apocalypse if you took 80 days or longer and such. It's a bit of game design that personally I didn't enjoy because the game wanted you to explore... then punished you for exploring. Which is probably why for Fallout 2 they made the time limit more like 12 years or whatever it was. Enough to not really be a factor.
The Fallout series are my favorite games of all time, especially 1 & 2, I used to play those tons back in the day and I even did playthroughs of them on my channel. The lore of the games are so in-depth and fascinating, it's great to see someone telling the stories that are in the games. I've seen plenty of your videos and actually found out new things I never knew about some stuff.

It's amusing that you keep disarming yourself by removing the weapons in your inventory -- you can just as easily keep one blank and keep that one "active" when you're in town, but keep your favorite gun in the other one -- just in case.

Fun fact; You can rob Killian *_BAT SHIT BLIND._* The tables in his store access his personal inventory (¿a bug maybe?). Just loot the tables, and you’re looting Killian. Worst case scenario, sell his own stuff back to him. You can rob him a second way- I can’t remember exactly how, but you can sneak into his personal apartment (inside the store), wait for daytime, and while he’s in the store pick his personal locker. He never notices _IF_ you move at the right time (I think it’s enter and exit at night, and I’m _pretty sure_ if you try speaking to him during those times he says _It’s late. Come talk to me in the morning”_ or something like that). *_IF YOU MOVE FAST ENOUGH_* (it helps to pre-position accordingly, which means as close to the door as possible while still being able to talk to Killian), you can block the door when the assassin arrives. With the door blocked, you can steal the hunting rifle right off the assassin (he switches to fists). From there, if you hit him even once you count as having tried to help Killian. Last but not least, thanks to Frank Horrigan (the old Interplay boards member), you can get BOTH solutions to the gizmo/Killian War; Agree to assassinate Killian, then using a modded in set of dog tags come back to gizmo, give him the dog tags, collect that reward, *_THEN_* go back to Killian with the evidence, collect *_THAT_* reward, and then whatever other rewards you choose to collect or not collect. (Actually, I’m not 1ØØ% sure about the modded dog tags; you might be able to steal them off of him.) I’ve got one more secret, thanks to Frankie, but I’ll save that for another day. 😈😈😈😈

+Nicholas Cross Yeah, it is "tales of a junktown jerky vendor" and a tale doesn't exactly have to be told from first-person point of view, it could be a legend or story about someone else or even someone who never even existed. Pair with a chef who cooks jerky and talks to their customers, as well as being able to draw and write.. I would say it adds up.

I'm pretty sure the Desert Ranger in Junktown also will raise your Outdoorsmen skill if you ask him how he survived all that time. Also with the hostage in the hotel if you do it peacefully you'll gain 1,000xp instead of 400xp if you just kill him.

If that Mauser C96 gizmo had on him was a 9mm then that means it's a rare German "Red 9". It was a weapon used in WW1 modified to hold 9mm bullets and a red 9 was engraved on the side, I think it was modified for the German storm troopers. Great easter egg if that's the case.

What i really like is that i can experience the entirety of Fallout 1 as an Audio-Book, great experience,
I really like you also read all the text that the game didnt have voice overs for, and also just other ingame texts.
Most other people that do playthroughs, usally skip through those normal ingame messages, or have an attitude, of "If people want to read it, they can pause the video, im moving on."

I've loved the entire Fallout series since this very game. Since I don't have a computer old enough to play it anymore, nor the computer skills to patch a newer one to, being able to see these video's brings me back to the original wonder that got me addicted to the series. I never thought we'd be going this far back in the fallout series!
The stories in Fallout 1 were so much more complex than in the Bethesda games. There were so many ways they could shake out, too. It's kinda sad that got thrown to the wayside in favor of an increased focus on FPS combat.
They had other teams come in to improve fallout 4's combat how exactly does improving the combat result in their more linear quest design they seem like two unrelated points
Well it's more a common complaint that came out of Fallout 3 and stuck around. Fallout 3 actually has a lot of ways to accomplish quests. Take for example when you first enter Little Lamplight. If you have good speech or the Child at Heart perk you can get in regardless. Or they send you on a similar slaver quest to free captive slaves ala Tandi from Shady Sands in Fallout 1. Where there is a variety of ways to complete that including bare minimal work, just paying out caps for the slaves, murdering everyone there, tricking someone into walking to their death so you can get a kid out, distracting guards with prostitutes, etc.
A lot of Fallout 3 in particular worked like that. But for some reason it got the attention for not having multiple routes and just focusing on gunplay. Which carried over to fallout 4 because they polished up the gunplay. Though both have the black mark against them of simplifying (in a lot of cases) the options. Like if you want to talk your way past the final boss in Fallout 3 it's just two speech checks, which can be auto passed with a high Charisma and Speech. Nothing else to it. While in Fallout 1 it didn't matter how much you put into Speech and Charisma, if you didn't actually have the evidence to talk The Master around. Which required you exploring enough to find the evidence instead of just sinking points when you level up.
There are things the older Fallout Isometric days did I wish were in the newer ones. For example in the newer ones you just find bobbleheads or magazines/books to increase skills. While in Fallout 1 and 2 there often was a little favor you had to do for someone or dialogue option to pick up where they'd take the time to teach you the skill, from improving things like Guns and Unarmed to learning how to skin Geckos. It gets to the same end point as it were (Your friend from the tribe in Fallout 2 raises your Melee and Unarmed skill for example). But one is a case of interacting with people, the other is a case of interacting with the environment (Finding locations to loot that have that particular loot).
There's strengths and weaknesses to either way. In particular I like how Fallout 4 made it at least context related to the point where you could guess. Like want a copy of Guns and Bullets to increase your gun crits? Where would you find it? Well things like Military Bases and Military Checkpoints. Makes sense. You want the Surgical Journals to increase limb damage done? Where are they? Libraries and Hospitals. Which similarly makes sense.
The old fallouts it could be a little obscure unless you were save scumming to explore every potential dialogue option, not knowing what would lead to what (And honestly not a way I played RPGs then or now). Just having to experiment with what NPC and what particular dialogue chain leads to what potential benefit.
I probably wouldn't have minded in Fallout 1 in particular that level of experimentation and exploration needed.... if not for the hard time limits in the game. Like getting a bad end for the Followers of the Apocalypse if you took 80 days or longer and such. It's a bit of game design that personally I didn't enjoy because the game wanted you to explore... then punished you for exploring. Which is probably why for Fallout 2 they made the time limit more like 12 years or whatever it was. Enough to not really be a factor.
I honestly like the more FPS-focused gameplay. Mainly because I just wanna shoot gun and strategize later.

The Fallout series are my favorite games of all time, especially 1 & 2, I used to play those tons back in the day and I even did playthroughs of them on my channel. The lore of the games are so in-depth and fascinating, it's great to see someone telling the stories that are in the games. I've seen plenty of your videos and actually found out new things I never knew about some stuff.

It's amusing that you keep disarming yourself by removing the weapons in your inventory -- you can just as easily keep one blank and keep that one "active" when you're in town, but keep your favorite gun in the other one -- just in case.

Fun fact;
You can rob Killian *_BAT SHIT BLIND._* The tables in his store access his personal inventory (¿a bug maybe?). Just loot the tables, and you’re looting Killian. Worst case scenario, sell his own stuff back to him.
You can rob him a second way- I can’t remember exactly how, but you can sneak into his personal apartment (inside the store), wait for daytime, and while he’s in the store pick his personal locker. He never notices _IF_ you move at the right time (I think it’s enter and exit at night, and I’m _pretty sure_ if you try speaking to him during those times he says _It’s late. Come talk to me in the morning”_ or something like that).
*_IF YOU MOVE FAST ENOUGH_* (it helps to pre-position accordingly, which means as close to the door as possible while still being able to talk to Killian), you can block the door when the assassin arrives. With the door blocked, you can steal the hunting rifle right off the assassin (he switches to fists). From there, if you hit him even once you count as having tried to help Killian.
Last but not least, thanks to Frank Horrigan (the old Interplay boards member), you can get BOTH solutions to the gizmo/Killian War; Agree to assassinate Killian, then using a modded in set of dog tags come back to gizmo, give him the dog tags, collect that reward, *_THEN_* go back to Killian with the evidence, collect *_THAT_* reward, and then whatever other rewards you choose to collect or not collect. (Actually, I’m not 1ØØ% sure about the modded dog tags; you might be able to steal them off of him.)
I’ve got one more secret, thanks to Frankie, but I’ll save that for another day. 😈😈😈😈
