But personally I don’t question stuff like this, I just understand there’s a “gamey” reason why it’s there. Kinda like when you kill a merchant you can only loot a few caps and some shitty gear they’re wearing, not every single thing that they were selling. It’s just there cuz it’s a damn video game. Ppl would complain if every time you were awarded caps from an NPC they had to go and get they money for you.

I wish this game (and FO2) was remastered in full 3D while retaining all the voices, giant campaign map, the outdated yet enjoyable character level system, and such stuff. I love newer games, but these games had a charm like no other game in post-apocalyptic genre. There was a modder that tried to do this in FNV but that project died quickly.
Fun fact: the .223 pistol (also the 5.56 pistol and That Gun) were designed to look like the pistol that the main character, Decker, uses in Blade Runner.
I wonder about the size of Junkyown, Shady Sands and the Hub in 2284 vs Megaton, Rivet City and Diamond city. I would presume the California cities are now many many times larger than anything else in post war America.
I love how the Hub captures the universal rule, that in a place without centralized power or law, an oligarchical "council" of the richest merchants will eventually form.
I hope 5 years later you can spot why this doesn't make sense, knowing several historical examples of oligarchies or dictatorships sprawling from countries that had either or both, while knowing from those examples the reasons why centralized power or law are not opposed to this formation & in some ways can worsen the grip of the power structure that forms.

Apologies for jumping ahead. I learned playing Fallout was to get the available followers, Ian, Tycho and Dogmeat as soon as possible. They really do come in handy and there is a better chance of survival. I determined that using the water merchants was, for me, the best way to got to supply water to Vault 13. I made that decision because I was so involved with exploration and leveling that I would burn through the 150 days limit before finding the water chip. I did find the chip in time, but hey, it is so easy to get distracted.
But if you do the water chip quest without use the water merchants, you have 13 years in game to do wathever you want, don´t get me wrong, play the way you like, but in that way you don't risk too soon your vault
Without going into the details that make this series significant to me I’ll just say this. Thanks for all your hard work and passion that you have poured into the Fallout franchise as a whole. I have developed a whole new love for the Fallout series, and it’s Lore, that I find myself wanting to play the older games such as this one. Thanks again for all the Fallout Lore videos! P.S. Sometimes I just can’t help but watch your Lore videos over some Netflix and HBO shows that I enjoy watching.
I love how you can see the impact the Vault Dweller of Fallout 1 had on the wasteland, the only person outside of the 3 raider tribes and the residents of Shady Sands that knows that Vaults exist is a librarian, we saw how Killian didn’t know they existed but fast forward to Fallout 2, 3, 4, and New Vegas and everyone just talks about Vaults like they are a normal occurrence, I know that it’s likely that the Vault Dweller wasn’t responsible for it all but I still find it to be a cool detail.
As someone who picked up the series with Fallout 3 (and never finished) it makes me so happy that you’re making these videos! I’m playing catch up on all the lore in anticipation of Fallout 76. Keep up the great work!

Makenzie Brennan it’s unarguable that new Vegas has better writing, story, and lore than FO3. Even as far as popularity and weapons choices most people preferred New Vegas over 3. However, new Vegas is plagued with its own issues particularly a glaring retconn.
@@cullenseago1519 Well, story, characters and lore are opinionated. But I agree that New Vegas had a better story than Fallout 3. Fallout 4 had the best story in my personal opinion. But yeah, New Vegas had issues. Not only lore breaks, but half of the game is just Fallout 3 (not that I have a problem with that), the game is a glitchy mess (there are still quest, item spawn glitches and crashes on Xbox One in 2018, the game was nearly unplayable until the ultimate edition on PC, etc etc. I still love New Vegas, but it's not perfect. No game is.
If you think about it, 90% of quest you do is side quests, to be honest I still don't full understand which missions in Fallout 1 and 2 are side and main. But for the newer Fallout games this is true
I gotta say, I'm a big fan of the eccentric narration. It conveys a lot of enthusiasm about the subject material and that really makes the difference between a dry and a captivating video essay.

I stumbled across this channel by way of lore videos on later games. I noticed the playthroughs and decided to watch through as many of them as I could, especially since I have all this new time on my hands with the quarantine. I'm quickly becoming a fan and working my way through some of the videos.
I love these walkthroughs and how thorough you are in exploring all the options. I actually own some of the old Fallouts but, never got around to playing them. After watching these, I might just see if I can get them working and try em out.
Just want to say, your Videos are amazing. I have never seen someone going so in deep, with his analyses. Even going so wide to tell stuff about current events and how it impacts the future of the fallout universe. Keep up the amazing work.
I've not seen Fallout 4 players playing this game in general. You're the first one in my book and that's awesome. Heck you even managed to make Fallout 4 lore interesting and while Fallout 1 is already rich with interesting lore, you manage to deliver it in such a way that I'm pondering playing Fallout 1 again because you leave no stone unturned and I like that!

Just a FYI, Once you open your inventory you can use the stimpacks and reload your weapons from inside it. Noticed you were dragging the stimpack to a slot and then using it which wastes AP. Your videos are amazing!

Haven't seen anyone mention it yet and honestly its a small detail, but I think the reason the water chip 'lasted' for 84 years was probably because the dwellers had some replacement chips and spare parts but had finally run out, or no longer had someone skilled enough to do repairs (the reason the dweller is sent out in the first place is because they 'don't have' these replacements, but that could be because they used them all.) Just a thought. Possible it just came down to the chip exceeding it's expected life due to a Factor of Safety in it's design. Or I'm just totally overthinking it. Great video though!
Very cool series. Fallouts 1 and 2 were always games where I loved the writing but I kind of just suck at them, so a story-intensive walkthrough like this is a really neat find for me.
Loving the Fallout 1 content! I got Fallout 1 for free like a year ago when it was free on steam for the anniversary but only started playing it recently, super fun and I always love seeing all the stuff I miss. Keep it up Ox!

You should do a video on the Sierra Army Depot in Fallout 2 (quest for it is found from the Wright Family in New Reno) and the potential Robobrain companion. Note: be careful not to say "caps" when playing Fallout 2, as the currency in Fallout 2 is actually a minted coin of some sort. This is evidenced by a somewhat silly quest found in Broken Hills, the ghoul town run by Marcus... actually that might be worth its own episode too.

Makenzie Brennan my first fallout was f4 and years after i decided to try out NV on pc and it’s such a glitchy game and it crashes.

Just a FYI, Once you open your inventory you can use the stimpacks and reload your weapons from inside it. Noticed you were dragging the stimpack to a slot and then using it which wastes AP. Your videos are amazing!

My favorite series combines a breakdown of the lore plus speedrunning mechanics. Unfortunately the guy only does it for Zelda titles though.

Haven't seen anyone mention it yet and honestly its a small detail, but I think the reason the water chip 'lasted' for 84 years was probably because the dwellers had some replacement chips and spare parts but had finally run out, or no longer had someone skilled enough to do repairs (the reason the dweller is sent out in the first place is because they 'don't have' these replacements, but that could be because they used them all.) Just a thought. Possible it just came down to the chip exceeding it's expected life due to a Factor of Safety in it's design. Or I'm just totally overthinking it. Great video though!

Very cool series. Fallouts 1 and 2 were always games where I loved the writing but I kind of just suck at them, so a story-intensive walkthrough like this is a really neat find for me.
Loving the Fallout 1 content! I got Fallout 1 for free like a year ago when it was free on steam for the anniversary but only started playing it recently, super fun and I always love seeing all the stuff I miss. Keep it up Ox!

You should do a video on the Sierra Army Depot in Fallout 2 (quest for it is found from the Wright Family in New Reno) and the potential Robobrain companion. Note: be careful not to say "caps" when playing Fallout 2, as the currency in Fallout 2 is actually a minted coin of some sort. This is evidenced by a somewhat silly quest found in Broken Hills, the ghoul town run by Marcus... actually that might be worth its own episode too.
It wasn't until just now, having watch parts 1 to 3 of this series, that I realised Fallout is a series of Westerns with a backdrop of nuclear war.
