Hi Kristina! I have the exact same career trajectory as you, coming from Public Relations and slowly venturing into the field of Change Management Consulting. The journey was really not an easy one especially during the peak of the project timeline and the workload is absolutely CRAZY. But I am really happy to see women out there in the same area, sharing their work experiences and that I am not alone ;) Keep working hard and rock on, you go girl!
Having a Masters degree in Industrial Organizational Psychology has been a big help as a change manager. It also helps to get a certification. I like Prosci, but others are out there.
Alexis, education is a great, but most people will not need more than a Masters degree. That’s if you’re really ambitious. My doctorate is a great accomplishment, but not always as practical as a certification program. My suggestion to anyone... Get an education and back it up with experience.
Jasmine Wu- Check out SIOP.org if you have not already. It is the main professional organization for IO Psych. My main concern was applied or research focused curriculum. I went applied because I already had a solid background in research to know my interest was in being out in the business world. I got my degree in Chicago at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. In my experience, too many IO Psychologists that do the research have a hard time translating what they know to an applied environment because the business world is a little different.
I love how you can describe change management in articulate manner , as change management analyst I really have a hard time answering "talk about your work" questions. :(
With a strong background in Project Management, a masters in Project Management, with a plan of getting a PhD in Strategic Management and a huge interest in both Change Management and Process re-engineering, this is well in alignment with my interests.
Thank you sooo much for the video. It really opened up my mind about consulting business and how my background in sociology and HR can help me with pursuing a consulting career :)
I hope in the next video you can explain an actual example of change management projects that you had worked on in the past and what are the quantifiable results that are being used to determine whether a change management project is successful or not. I like your videos but they've always been so surface level and I wished you could provide more real life examples.
Thank you so much for this video!! I love how informative and helpful your videos are especially as an aspiring consultant trying to figure out the next steps!
This is a great post. I know think I have a better understanding on the change management consulting, Thank you so much! :) As always you manage to get out great content.
Thank you once again for a great and informative video about career development. I am in the middle of switching from retail day to day/Investment banking to corporate, with my focus on Employee Training and Development and Management roles in general, to probably end up in Change Management after MBA, and I wonder if there's a way of contacting you, in order to know if I'm in the right path or not. Thanks again for your videos and keep it up!
Love your summary of the practice! What are your thoughts on exit strategies/career transitions after a few years of experience as a Change Management Analyst/Consultant for tech implementations?
Depends on the firm I think, but even in my role I also sometimes deal with tech implementations -- but moreso on the people side, like getting people to understand why the new tech is important, how it will help them, etc., rather than the technical side of developing the program or managing training as it gets rolled out.
Hi Kristina, thank you so much for your informative videos from within the consulting field. Could you make videos on other types of management consulting like strategy, financial? Thank you again for all the effort so far. Cheers
Thanks for the video!!! ❤️ I wonder if a good video idea would be on how to communicate clearly or better skills like that? I’m always afraid I overexplain and confuse others with too much information at once
Hi can you share what are the pros and cons of being a change management consultant. I am a Workday Consultant and wanted to understand if I should be transitioning to this role.
I’m planning on pursuing a career as a change management consultant but I have no idea on how to even gain experience on it. Like the sort of entry level jobs I would need to make my way up 😣😣😅
Do u have any videos specifically talking about the pros/cons of working at a smaller boutique vs. a larger firm when looking at change management consulting? I’ve been applying to both without really knowing which I prefer. Thanks so much, love your videos : )
Firstly, thank you for this concise yet informative video! Secondly, do you think that a masters in industrial/organizational psychology would be helpful to get into change management, or would a masters in business management be more helpful to get into change management? Thank you in advance!
@@bykchoi awesome, thank you! I'm currently finishing off my major in English, so it's easier at my university to add an additional major in IO psych and work my way up from there. Thank you for putting my mind at ease! ✨
Hi this was really helpful! I am coming from a counseling/psychology background and I was wondering if you can recommend any online free/affordable courses to learn more about change management consulting and to gain the knowledge and skills I would need to Segway into change management consulting. Thank you!
In a change management wing do you have to come up with a plan as to what changes would help the client firm achieve its goals or is it some other wing that comes up with a plan and you(change management wing) are the one monitoring its execution?
Hi, Not sure if you’ve answered this but how much of math/finance do you use in change management ? I have the exact background as you where I studied literature and now I’m working in PR and looking for a change and change management looks like a great option to me, the only thing is I have 0 math/business skills. Would love if you could reply to this!
Not much, but it depends on the types of projects/clients I work with at any given time! Some require a bit more financial knowledge. I wouldn't say that a formal background in math/finance is necessary, but I did find it helpful (if even just for my own confidence) to take business and finance classes during my master's. But again, I don't think an actual degree is necessary, as long as you can show you have a basic understanding and analyze data appropriately and efficiently.
Hi bipasha I did a brief stint in PR and now I’m in change management consulting - the skills are so transferable and I suck at maths - calculators are my friend so don’t sweat it!
i'm interested so much in change management and currently i am reading a book called make sense of change management. is this book help me to build my change manager career? or is there any others books recommended?
I haven't read these but two others I know of are "Change Management: The People Side of Change" and "Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard"
@@bykchoi thx a lot. I will take a look at those two books. By the way, I am the guy who commented in your ins poste about adoring your wording. Hhha looking forward more your vlog.
I am in the last semester of my Bachelor's in Tourism Management and during my studies I did different part-time jobs and internships in Hospitality, Accounting Department and Recruiting. Eventually I ended up in Learning and Development where I am currently enjoying my work and projects a lot and where I also got a lot of insights into Change Management. During my academic studies, instead, I preferred gathering some technical knowledge and I chose electives regarding Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, CRM and Digital Marketing applied to the tourism industry and I am currently also writing my thesis about the IT transformations in tourism. I would really like to acquire a deeper knowledge about both technology and business and for this reason I applied for a Master's degree in Business Administration with focus on Digital Technology Management where I really hope I will get accepted. Do you think that that would be a good choice in order to get into Change Management? I got an understanding that I really like working with new technologies and understanding their impact on the organisations, despite the fact that I am not a tech-specialist, at the same time I love working with people and giving presentations but I don't really see myself anymore in a classical "HR job". Another problem with me would be the communication, I really love communicating, writing and presenting and I grew up as a polyglot (I speak 5 languages and know the basics of some other ones), but sometimes it is a bit difficult for me since I don't speak any of them with a proper native accent and fluency. Right now I am living in Germany and I am afraid that if I choose this career path native speakers will have an advantage over me and maybe the right choice for me would be to go instead into a more analytical or technical kind of job.

Would you recommend getting a doctorate as well in io psychology

@Wug At $5,000 or so for a certification, I can see that. I saw the value of the one time expense. It has paid off in the intervening years.
I love how you can describe change management in articulate manner , as change management analyst I really have a hard time answering "talk about your work" questions. :(
hahah i've had a lot of practice explaining what i do to uber/lyft drivers while traveling 🤣

I wish I could provide more real life examples too but it’s very hard since I gotta keep most of it confidential!
Thank you for these sharing. Could you also share a bit about your skin care pls?

I actually do! It’s called “Are Big Consulting Firms Better?”
Do you think that Change management master is useful or is better to have a different background ?
So informative!

I think change management is more about the implementation, while determining the actual strategy changes are more like management/stategy consulting!
