Grate buy! I bought this watch a few years ago. It didnt gel with me from the start and i tried selling it as new. I had a lot of low ballers and took it off the market. As i lived with it, it did start to grow on me and i took it on many journeys. It is now my favourite watch. I love the way the shark teeth indices look in the sunlight. And its a perfect style, a little dressy a little sporty. Of recent im now tempted for the new gmt alpinist lol.
Good decision not selling it for a cheaper price, it’s a great watch, and for it’s price point- i think this is one of the best you can buy in it’s range. It’s been a couple of months since i got this and i am still in awe at how much value you get out if it. I’ve also just seen the new gmt alpinist, it’s tempting! But for me, this will be “The” classic alpinist that’s gonna be hard to beat. 😎
I like the black Alpinist and the green (I used to own the old sarb017) and the new 1959 reinterpretation. I'll probably buy one but not to sure which.
Love mine, but swapped the bracelet for a strapcode. Much better fitment options and a better clasp. The movement is the favorite of my automatic watches. Have a few Miyota 9X and Sellita SW200 movements and nothing is smoother and as elegant and the 6R35.
I actually love the bracelet on this alpinist, it’s extremely comfortable! And movement wise, i’ve got the same as yours. Miyota,sellita… they’re all nice! But i’ve been wearing this alpinist for more than a month straight now. 😎 it’s just great.
Just pick me up a Seiko 5..... Jewelers would ask me why do you want a Rolex.... Jewelers would say check out these Seiko 5.... Ego was stuck on..... Seiko 5 came my way.... Watching amazing watch reviews on the Seiko 5..... Blessed to pick one up..... The rattle that everybody complains about..... Actually how you stimulate the automatic movement to work without being a crazy Shaker damaging all the parts..... The Japanese do everything for a reason.... Never give their secrets..... If you research watches... Understand and understand the complications on the movement..... You will find a great deal of comfort in Seiko
Your point of view is such a comfort to read. :) that’s how i feel with this seiko prospex, not the most expensive, not the most sought out, but one of the most comfortable one i have and one that i really enjoy using. 😊
I'm not sure if it would be better or worse if my wife was into watches. Right now she only wears a watch because I bought her a Apple Watch a few years ago.
I have the Seiko SPB121J1, the green Alpinist same as the one your wife got. I absolutely love it! Although I think a steel bracelet would look great on it (like your SPB117), I’ll be keeping the stock leather deployant clasp on it as I already have the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 which has an integrated steel bracelet. This way I can have a more dressy watch without fully committing to a dress watch style, cause right now a dress watch just doesn’t fit my style and personal preferences 😂
I like the green one too, but i love this black version. And i agree that they both would look great on either strap or bracelet. Have you seen the nee 35mm prx powermatic? Tempting as well.

It could be a one and done for many. Sporty, somewhat dressy on the bracelet and 20bar water resistance. And yes if you ever get lost 😂..

These watches are worth it even if they mark them up two hundred bucks they are still stellar... And worth every penny

Nice watch, but it's just too thick for me, and I personality hate watch that have the cyclop.
I think the thickness is just enough, and the cyclops.. to each their own, i guess. ‘Cause i love cyclops on watches. :)
