    Can we just give it up for a moment, for House Bracken and their sheer unfiltered defiance, balls and pure hatred for their neighbors?
    Daemon is literally threatening them with his dragon and the head of House Bracken is like: "Get bent with ya stupid dragon, we choose fire! Oh and f*ck the Blackwoods!"

    Skull on dragonstone is definitely NOT Balerion's. His skull is in the Red Keep, where Viserys first told Rhaenyra the prophecy. We also see the the same room with Balerion's skull still in it when Ser Erryk helps Rhaenys escape the Red Keep in S1 Ep9. The skull on Dragonstone is more than likely Meraxes. She was killed in Dorne and they probably had the skull moved to Dragonstone.

    HotD is starting to lose me. A lot of it is starting to feel repetitive and just characters in rooms discussing there feelings. Its always been there but I can really feel the feminist angle coming through in the writing. The show wants to portray characters like Mysaria and Rhaenys as being moral and the voices of reason when there not good people (especially Rhaenys) who is responsible for hundreds of innocent people dying. She would've been a terrible queen yet the series seems to want us to think she did nothing wrong with how no one reacted positively when they saw Meleys' head. At least some of the smallfolk would've cheered because of what she did in the sept. Look at how they reacted to Aegon killing the ratcatchers which was far less deaths. They were horrified by it.
    I've noticed HotD really seems to be going out of there way to soften the edges of the female characters actions and either giving it to the male characters (like Aemond locking the gates instead of Alicent) or if they do something bad its handwaved as reactionary to being part of a patriarchal society. When one of them looks bad its usually unintentional on the writers part. Rhaenys killing the smallfolk was intended as a girl power moment. It wasn't meant to make her look bad. This whole show I guarantee you is going to boil down to "Two women who were best friends became enemies and were torn apart because of the patriarchy".
    I don't want it to be the case because there's a lot of good elements to this show which is why its even more frustrating when they fumble stuff but I get the feeling there gonna botch the series and its not gonna be as good as it could've been by the ending. They already screwed up with Blood & Cheese which should've been the most insane and talked about moment in GoT history since The Red Wedding but its only been a few weeks and practically no one is mentioning it. I can see why George is unhappy with the changes they're making. There taking a lot of the nuances away from his source material to conform to modern day Hollywood standards. No Mushroom because apparently having a little person whose goofy would be deemed offensive, Making the Velaryons black whose acting is actually pretty good but we know why they cast them that way. Its not because the actors were the most talented but we can't have a show in this day and age with all white people, softening the violence and nudity particularly with women. A lot of the show feels like Game of Thrones the PG-13 edition.

      That scene of baela talking down on corlys was so jarring. Imagine a child talking that way to the "lord of the tides" lmao
      The Daemon character has been butchered, he's a one-dimensional bad man now. No coming back from that.

    • @sherlockinsomniac
      @sherlockinsomniac หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      What are you talking about? No one is forcing you to see Rhaenyra, Mysaria, Rhaenys or anyone else as good or bad or moral or corrupt. Take them for what they are on screen and you will enjoy the show, but if you insist on accusing the writers of placing a propaganda then you will find no joy in anything.
      Tell me who YOU believe to be moral and just in this show and I will give you a handful of reasons why those people suck. No character in this show is perfect or above the rest. Rhaenyra, Mysaria andRhaenys are as flawed as every other character, but at least they are trying their best to do right according to their own beliefs, despite having mixed success. There are also plenty of male characters who you could see as good guys, such as Corlys, Hugh the Hammer, and most especially Jace. You could even argue that Aemond and Aegon are simply victims of their circumstances. But it’s really up to you.
      Again, NOBODY is handwaving what Rhaenys did in the dragon pit, or Rhaenyra’s inadequacies as queen, or Mysaria’s past crimes. However, They are at least trying to do better moving forward. A cynical person might call that hypocrisy, but I call that character growth. This is in stark contrast to Alicent, CristonCole, and the rest of the greens who seem to have given in to nihilism and embraced their evilness.
      This show is one of the few remaining stories out there today that hasn’t fully succumbed to the woke mind virus. They have a team of passionate authors led by the creator of the books himself, backed by a well respected studio that has decades of experience. This show is beloved world round, and yet here you are, Mr. Jaded old fart, reaching for trivial reasons to hate on it. It might not be perfect, but this is by far the BEST tv show on the planet right now. If you can’t find enjoyment in this, then maybe nothing can make you happy.

    • @LivingGhost1
      @LivingGhost1 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      @@sherlockinsomniac I'm not saying there's no passion among the creatives but lets not pretend there is no "woke" or modern day Hollywood tropes placed in there. If that wasn't the case then why did they race swap the Velaryons and the White Worm when there white in the source material? Why did they exclude Mushroom? Why shy away from most of the nudity and brutal violence when it surrounds female characters? The show absolutely absolves a lot of what Rhaenys did in the dragon pit because its literally never brought up again within universe aside from Daemon saying she could've killed the Greens. If the writers intended for that to be deemed bad the Greens would've used that to there advantage to poison the commonfolk against Rhaenyra's cause and rightfully so because Rhaenys actually did kill hundreds of innocent people or Rhaenys would've had a scene where she had massive guilt about it and says she probably never should've been queen but instead she gets death that's framed as heroic and noble despite the fact she's currently more responsible for innocent deaths than anyone in HotD.
      Yes its more subtle and better written then a lot of crap out there nowadays but to say the feminist subtext isn't there is cope because you want to enjoy something. I like it too but its not perfect and I call out BS when I see it. Also its not the best show on TV when Shogun and The Gentlemen exist. Its also hilarious calling me old when I'm not even 30 LMAO! Hollywood doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt after all the shit they've pulled. They gotta earn back there dignity and respect!

      I mean, it's a pretty important part of the story. In most cases it would annoy me, but that's a large plot point in this story. One of the main excuses for the greens usurping the throne is people not wanting a woman to be the heir. A lot of the council on both sides don't respect a woman's leadership or decision making, which played out on both councils this episode. So, being annoyed about it makes no sense with this show, that's a major piece of the story and a big excuse used to justify a lot of the actions in this story and how the men feel about everything.

      But it’s properly written, not just “girl boss beating meanie men”. No it recognizes the flaws. For example Rhaenyra admits she is not qualified for war, because her father never raised her for it. Although she gets a nice shot back that no one at her council has been battle tested nor part of a campaign. But it’s still true that she is out over her ski’s with war planning. Her own son however is able to make appropriate moves on the board without her.
      Alicent is a great queen in peace time, but again war is different, and she can’t sit across from Rhaenyra whose main problem is being a woman queen and there are legitimate successors.

      I don't mind it in this context either. Everything is well set up and has internal consistency. All the characters, male and female, are written as complex individuals with understandable motivations and traits that dictate their actions. The women in this show aren't girl-boss Mary sues; they just make different poor decisions from the men sometimes.
      The only irritating vibes I'm getting are from the White Worm. I'm not sure if it's the writing in her scenes or if the actress just isn't up to the job, or if it's something else entirely. She comes across as 2 dimensional to me regardless, and that's a sharp contrast to the rest of the characters in this show, including some of the minor ones.
      Even Rhenerys, with all her haughtiness and confidence, is frequently wrong. S01E09 is an obvious abomination. But even when Corlys (admittedly in mourning) follows her advice to make Baella the heir, Baella just flat out rejects the position without a second thought. Rhenerys' advice wasn't bad, but it didn't account for everything either.

    I didn't like it, but slowness has nothing to do with it
    The smallfolk not caring about meleys having slaughtered them, daemon having sex fantasies with his mother (?), acting like the problem of the black council is rahenyra being a woman and not the fact that she has not acted yet and they are rapidly losing ground, even making Alfred Broome (whose criticism was on point in the other episodes) just flat out say that he kinda doesn't like women.
    Everything Mysaria is also just awful, she is the only actor in this show who is not doing a good job, watching her in the same scene as Rahenyra who is played very well is painful
    The episode was overall still decent, but I can't keep overlooking the weird direction the show is taking, it feels like got season 5 where the source material started being just a loose inspiration and the writers headcanon is growing more annoying by the episode.

Why wouldn't Daemon burn their castle to ensure that the next lord he makes the same offer to knows Daemon isn't bluffing? Daemon looks like the kind of guy who wouldn't hesitate.
    Then for some reason Brackens surrender because Blackwoods kill a bunch of their peasants and burn a church? That's weird. Why would they surrender? Why wouldn't they organize counter raids against Blackwood lands? The Bracken castle isn't besieged as far as I can tell. And church-burning is an excellent reason to gather a bunch of allies - people in the middle ages are serious about their religion.
    And we do see it play out - we see a bunch of lords angry at Daemon. But the scene where they come in person to tell Daemon that seems nightmarish in a sense that it makes no sense. Why wouldn't they send a declaration by letter and go fight Blackwoods instead of shouting at Daemon (and risking their lives and freedom! He could significantly reduce the number of Green-aligned riverlords by killing or imprisoning all those guys!). I was genuinely thinking that it was a dream when all those assholes just barged in at night.

    The morality in this show is weird. The give Aegon that scene with his bastards in the fighting pits, which as far as I know wasn't in the books but then make him relatable and sad. And then they are so obsessed with championing the smallfolk, which isn't bad in itself, but make the weirdest characters do that.
    Why would Misaria, Lady Misery and Alys Rivers give a shit about the smallfolk? They should be scary, secretive and powerful women, not superman.
    Edit: I am aware they are smallfolk themselves, but that doesn't mean they are selfless and charitable characters. Just like Alicent doesn't fight for women's rights why should a witch and mistress of whispers fight for peasants?

      Yea, agree about aegon, I'd rather ignore the green council episode, if you remove it from your brain, the show automatically gains two points, about the smallfolk point tho, you're completely off mark
      1) You don't have to be selfless to try to improve the lives of smallfolk, especially given the fact YOU are a smallfolk
      2) there's nothing contradictory about being a witch or a mistress of whispers and also trying to improve smallfolks rights or even being selfless, which I wouldn't say they are
      3) they can still be scary and secretive and do awful things while also having a morally good goal in mind

    • @junecatira
      @junecatira หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@baalsagol346 I agree, but in the show it just feels repetitive. Instead of doing things like Varys for example would they just keep bitching and moaning about the smallfolk when realistically most Targaryens won't care (Rhaenyra maybe, but only because they've made her much more heroic than in the books). It would be more effective if they manipulated those in power. And Mysaria specifically was called Misery by the small folk, it's not the nickname I would choose for someone who champions my interests. With Alys it makes a bit more sense I suppose?

    • @baalsagol346
      @baalsagol346 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @junecatira6338 I'm pretty sure that's what they're doing, they're trying to manipulate them, Alys with visions, misery with words and actions that benefit rhaynera, which, if she becomes queen will help the smallfolk and her
      About the nickname, she seems to be like what the theories about varys (at least in the in the books) suggest, with the little birds and assassinations of competent rulers and creation of chaos, doing bad things with a good cause in mind, I imagine things like, slitting the throat of a shop owner not willing to pay protection but at the same time supports the local business, kills corrupt gold cloaks and rival crime gangs who only take and abuse other smallfolk
      Hack, maybe she even has the same exact plan as varys (from the theory), which is to build funds both knowledge and monetary, and gain power until being able to take it up with the rulers, I mean varys literally started the same way as her, being a powerful prince of crime
      And before you going to say "the show didn't show that", as someone already did elsewhere, the show isn't over and she's not dead yet, there's still plenty of time and opportunities to show that

He would have been the first one to return from battle and the first one to report to her what happened. He would have told her his version of the story- that Aegon flew in unexpectedly and would have been killed by Rhaenys if he, Aemond, hadn’t intervened- and she wouldn’t have any reason to doubt him until word (or whispers) reached the capital from soldiers or Criston or other witnesses. And as for Criston, he seems terrified of Aemond, but not too terrified to stop himself dropping hints that feed Allicent’s suspicions, which just makes him seem like a moron. Terrible subplot, should have been reworked, or just scrapped and had Allicent sidelined for an episode.
