About 20 years ago, I found myself unexpectedly between apartments (too long a story). I was introduced to an elderly Greek lady who rented rooms in her home. Mrs. Lecomentros had her baking day every two weeks come hell or high water. NOTHING interfered with that ever. On those days I'd come home from work to the scent of fresh baking and a plate of these cookies (wreath shaped and topped with sesame seeds) on the dresser in my room. Needless to say, I began to miss her and those delicious cookies the very day I moved into my new place. So grateful to finally have this recipe at last!
Dimitra, I am Greek and I have a business in baking. I don't know how I came across, but you really give very good instructions. As the generation of the elder women who used to bake is disappearing, we can't find hardly anyone in the family who can bake. So, I am making diples for a wedding.
My longest friend is Greek-American. Her parents were from Greece. I loved them so much. Her Mom, Koula, always had the most amazing (family secret) Greek cookies ready for me whenever I came by. I miss Koula and Nicko so much and have been dying for a recipe for her delicious cookies. Thank you for sharing. I’m definitely going to try your recipe! Thank you for sharing!
Made these last year and they were really good. Came back this year to make them again for our Pascha. This time round I added quarter cup of freshly squeezed orange juice. Oh my goodness! They tasted like my mom’s, eternal be her memory! Thank you for the recipe…. I’ve been trying to get my koulouria just right. These are really really good 👍. Bravo!
They were so yummy, Made so many cookies, shared with my neighbour and brothers. Made exactly as per recipe except I switched out orange for lemon zest, because that is how my mom made them. Thank you!
Thank you for show the complete process.. I had the recipe and I had been helping in my church for years but every time I try in my own I never get good results.. today I saw your video and I deduced to try it and I got a great result.. now i understood that my problema was that I was whipping the egged before to add them to the sugar and butter.. thank you very much!!
Hi lovely lady I love everything u do and all the time I try to do them I live in Canada in Windsor I wish u come one day and yr kids are just lovely like u God bless u always
Your koulouria are lovely. I make them every year for paska. My favourite part in making them is how my kids big and small all get involved with the shaping. We all sit around laughing and joking and I thank god for these moments as I know they won't last forever. That's what koulouria mean to me. Happy Easter to you and you family, thanks for sharing your recipes. X
Hey Dimitra excellent recipe I have been making these for such a long time but I like to add the addition of anise seeds or extract. Try it sometime it gives it a Mediterranean flair to the cookie
I love these cookies! Not too sweet and always perfect. Thank you for sharing your recipe. I like them without the lemon flavor ... they are just right any time of the year! Blessings.
Thank you so much for the recipe. Can you please, please post a recipe for a smaller bunch? 80 is a bit too much for my small household lol. Thank you!!!!
Always ready to taste new dishes! Yummy, yum! Doing the air fryer way. Waving to you from south Georgia-land of best Peaches, boiled Peanuts, & Vidalia onions! ; )
I made these for Orthodox Easter. Though they were only butter flavored-still good but not lemony. I forgot to actually add the lemon juice whoops! (because I saw in the written part of this recipe to just use the zest and add it to the flour). No worries! Now I’ll have to make another batch, 😋 I also ended up making slightly orange flavored ones-tasty, too! Thank you!
They look delicious! That is a big batch recipe, which I see NO problem with it! Thank you again for sharing. Do you have a recipe for tiramisu gelato? I tried it once, but I wouldn't know how to recreate that flavor in a gelato or ice cream. Thanks again!!
Recently (last weekend) I had an opportunity to go to a Greek Festival ... I am totally in love with your pastries and food and of course the culture. As an Italian, I do a lot of baking but these cookies are so yummy and my family is addicted to them and wants me to make some. I love soft/chewy cookies. I am not much with sweets; however, I am loving these cookies. Thank you for your video. Would you be able to give me some advice on how I am making them a little chewy for me to enjoy also? Thank you very much!
These are not very chewy but if you undertake them just a little bit they will be softer. You can play with a combination of brown sugar and granulated sugar and see if that makes them a bit chewy.
Great instructions! I do not have a stand mixer. Can you provide directions for making the cookies without a stand mixer? Also, how would you make anise cookies? Remove the lemon? Or vanilla? Thank you
At least I didn’t see her add lemon juice. If it is to be added I’d think it would be added to the wet ingredients prior to adding flour. She mentioned the zest is more flavorful than the juice.
Well my koulourakia were mushie. I have to add a little flour and work a piece at the time. I don’t see 80-100 cookies. My next batch this weekend will be 7 cups of flour instead of 6 1/2 and different butter.
Can I cut your ingredients in half because I don’t want to make 80 cookies. Can I also store the unbaked dough in the refrigerator until I need it. Please let me know. I try out some of your recipes and they came out great. Thanks
I only have the 6 wire whip attachment for my stand mixer will that do?? Thank You! Btw love your content and your recipes have turned out great for me!
I post 3-5 every week. I’m not sure why TH-cam isn’t showing them... 😫 must be the new algorithm... however, you can see all of them under the videos tab on my channel :)

Handsome and respectful son!
I made these for Christmas and they were perfection. My sister still talks about them.
I love these cookies.
Make these about once a year, not with lemons or cream, with orange juice if i have oranges in the house, otherwise just plain, but are still tasty!
Thank you so much- plan to keep tradition at Easter 🐣
Terrific recipe. ❤️
Love these! perfect with a cup of tea. I always make the S shape, we used to call them snake biscuits when I was a kid :)
Hello, Dimitta. Thanks for all your delicious recipes. Are you Greek? Your English is perfect !
They look delicious! That is a big batch recipe, which I see NO problem with it! Thank you again for sharing. Do you have a recipe for tiramisu gelato? I tried it once, but I wouldn't know how to recreate that flavor in a gelato or ice cream. Thanks again!!
I love this kind of biscuits

Looks so delicate and yummy
Sweet
Thank you, Dimitra! What are your thoughts on using orange instead?

Would you be able to post measurements for less cookies? 😊😊
When you live in Costa Rica, nothing is "cheap" here and that includes anything from Amazon!!
Only for the beaches & weather?
Amazing
Great recipe but at which point do we add the lemon juice? It doesn’t say in the printed recipe either. Thank you and Καλό Πάσχα 💐
She used the zest of the lemon, no lemon juice. The zest was added to the flour before mixing.
At least I didn’t see her add lemon juice. If it is to be added I’d think it would be added to the wet ingredients prior to adding flour. She mentioned the zest is more flavorful than the juice.

If I divided the recipe in half would it still come out as good :)
Yes :)
Dimitra's Dishes Thank you ☺️ I’m looking forward to making them. I have been watching many of your delicious videos and saving then to try.
Hi Dimitra, can I place an order for a box full please 😁
Can I cut your ingredients in half because I don’t want to make 80 cookies. Can I also store the unbaked dough in the refrigerator until I need it. Please let me know. I try out some of your recipes and they came out great. Thanks
Yes, of course!! The dough can be frozen too! Wrap it tightly in plastic and freeze up to a month. Thaw and make more cookies. Enjoy!! 🙂
I wonder if I could use a food processor instead of a stand mixer.
Any recipes about moustokouloura.
Really nice recipe Dimitra..I just sub’d👍
Thank you so much 🙂 and Welcome to our community :)
Can you do a video on triopitas?! I want to make them for my Greek bf and his family since they lost their father this year :(

I only have the 6 wire whip attachment for my stand mixer will that do?? Thank You! Btw love your content and your recipes have turned out great for me!
Yes, you can use that then, switch to a spatula and finally you can knead it with your hands just like our grandmas did 😊
If I don't have ammonium bicarbonate should I use baking powder or baking soda?
Yes, add baking powder
I don't have an electric mixer - too expensive for me right now. Will these work with a hand mixer?
Hi Dimitra mou! Can I add mahlepi kai mastic as well? How much should I put?
