I always love that look in David Tennants eyes in the beginning of the video since you can tell he isn't acting there. He is a small boy meeting one of the first Doctor Who companions he ever saw on TV.
He said, in an interview, that she was a childhood hero.
To be fair, he's also acting. Acting isn't just feeling; it's also craft. Sometimes when we casually say someone wasn't "acting," we're brushing aside the work they did to make it appear so natural.
No he’s definitely acting. He’s just a good actor. They’d have spent days possibly even weeks together before this on location, studio, table read throughs it’s not like it’s the first time they’ve seen each other.

Imagine being such a legendary compantion that not only do you get your own show, but instead of being a guest for the Doctor, the Doctor is YOUR guest. Sarah Jane Smith really was something.

Although I will admit, I may be a little sad too, having just found out jason david frank (the green power ranger) passed away three days ago. Another person who will be missed.

That Sarah Jane Smith episode with 11 was the only time Russel T Davies wrote for either of Moffat's doctors and he nailed it.
RTD just knows Doctor Who, but I would imagine there was a solid team helping out with the lore.

@@ninjagamer1359 especially considering it was supposed to be Chris reprising the role but declined so they went with hurt. I think it's why the line is "nearly half a dozen times" but it still fits even with hurt
I guess he just doesn't want to count that regeneration, considering what he did.
They didn’t know at this point Moffat was going to come along and cram a war Doctor in here to make to it 7 times. The writer here was definitely talking about when she left the fourth doctor. Not the meeting with 5 to make it the official half a dozen. There’s no foreshadowing here it just turned out to be a happy coincidence.

She died over a decade ago now but it still upsets me to this day ☹️ wasn’t born when she was in doctor who but she was my childhood in the spin off!!! Iconic not many people can play a character that’s beloved by all generations

They filmed a Sarah Jane Adventures scene from my Nan’s drive. It’s the one where the Slithereen block out the sun or something, it just consisted of them running down the street and looking in shock at the sky.
It was amazing, I was a kid and a doctor who fanatic. I got picked up from school with my holographic Dr Who backpack on and everything, it was a total surprise.
I got to meet all the cast who were lovely to me. I saw a sneek peak of the episode’s villain and autographs from and pictures with everyone. Unfortunately, I had them all in a memory box that I lost in a fire a few years ago. I’ve got the memory of it all though. Seeing this brought back a lot of memories.

Everything is okay now. But I had a memory box. All shit from when I was a child. All went up in smoke. I would have liked to be able to go through all that stuff now, my childhood is a blur

I live not too far from the old studios they used in trefforest, so I saw a lot of Dr Who stuff. For example I saw a spitfire plane on the property when we were driving past one day- not long after, the episode with the darleks in ww2 came out

Literally my first ever memory of Doctor Who was her bum as she climbed into the vents in Ark in Space. Must have been 6 years old. Always thought that was an odd moment to stick in the mind.

I love how when they ask what that thing was on the surface of Mars, Sarah was just like, "trust me, you don't want to know."
I strongly suspect that when he said "half a dozen times since we last met" the writers were counting from Four to Ten without factoring in Sarah Jane's appearance in The Five Doctors or the War Doctor. But if you do it correctly it does work out, so eh... And if there was one companion that he would let on about the War Doctor, Sarah Jane was probably her.
I always hoped they'd do a scene with 13 where someone would ask her name, and she'd say:
"Smith. Doctor John Smith.
...I mean, Jane Smith.
...
...Sarah Jane Smith."
Probably in one of the comics but yeah, surprising that they didn't have a Jane Smith moment.

When she was arguing with Rose, she should have said “WELL I MET THEIR CREATOR” for the daleks.

Love Sarah Jane (especially at the end the 3rd Doctor's era), but gotta love K9. Perfect antithesis to the Daleks: where they are living tanks full of hate, he is a living tank full of love and faith.
I loved K9 - thought he was a much needed addition - but as time went K9 kind of became a crutch like the sonic screwdriver. When the writers didn't know where to go they would insert K9, who was able to fix whatever situation they had. Still, I suspect that K9 will be showing up for the 60th (supposedly it was on the "banned" list for Power of the Doctor, along with Donna) and that will really be nice to see.
@@jamesrawlins735 Yeah, anything can be overused. Still, fun to see the tin dog in School Reunion, and I maintain that somewhere in Geneva there's a UNIT accounting office being held hostage by a rogue Cyberman until they increase the ammo budget.
@@jamesrawlins735 Donna and K9 were on the banned list for the Redacted podcast spin-off, not POTD. However K9 is now with Ace according to Russell, and i suspect he has a plan there.

These modern Who callbacks gave me real goosebumps as they recalled not only the classic series history but also my own as I remembered the much younger me watching them as they were first broadcast all those years ago..

River Song and Sarah Jane Smith are my faveourite characters in the whole show.
Seeing all of the references to the classic DW really helps tie in the character.
When the Thirteenth Doctor comes round in the TARDIS after fainting in 'Power of the Doctor', Yaz claims that she tried her best to get everyone home but ended up in Croydon. 😅

As an (U.S.) American, my only knowledge of Croydon comes from _Doctor Who_ and Sarah Jane Smith.
RIP Elizabeth Sladen I loved Sarah Jane adventures too and especially seeing her with the 10th Doctor 👏🏾👌🏾 RTD really understood continuity and still does

The First and Second Doctors wore near identical outfits for their entire runs. The only changes in clothes during the regeneration were that the checkered pants were a slightly different pattern that would have been too hard to see on screens at the time, and his waistcoat and gloves were discarded. He retained the cloak he was wearing. You're pointing to a small visual continuity error as if it is comparable to clothes visibly regenerating.

We haven’t actually seen the 60th yet so we don’t know whether there is plot reasons for it or not. And to be fair David would have looked ridiculous in 13’s outfit. Let’s face it sacha did
One of my fave moments in SJA is in the first slitheen episode where she says “slitheen in downing street, something an old friend said to me”
Thank you for the nostalgia trip. I grew up with the Adventures of Sarah Jane Smith since it was first aired and watched every single episode right up to the final one. I loved all the Doctor Who references and call backs and of course when the Doctor made an appearance. I was devastated when I heard of Elizabeth’s passing. She was truly a worthy companion that deserved her own spin off series.
What's cool is that the "half a dozen times" was probably an accident since I'm sure the War Doctor wasn't a thing or even an idea way back when that was first filmed, meaning he only regenerated 5 times from last seeing her in The 5 Doctors and that episode. Buuuut with the introduction of the War Doctor, the count is now correct!
It was correct before if you counted from 4, since she wouldn't remember meeting 5, but it's extra correct now
@@PenneySounds I am not convinced half a dozen times refers to when she met 5 and everyone at the time when School Reunion went out thought that 8 had turned into 9.
Even to take later continuity into account 10 at the time would have ignored War since it is the Doctor he doesn't want to remember.
11 only acknowledged War in The Time of the Doctor when he thought he had run out of regenerations and ignoring War made no difference.
i am also convinced that if Lis Sladen was alive to play Sarah Jane in The Power of the Doctor it would have seen her meeting Tegan for the first time again and not recall their previous first meeting in The Five Doctors.
@@PenneySounds Sarah would remember meeting 5, as the Sarah that was in the special was from after K9 & Company chronologically, after she stopped travelling with the Doctor. So there’s nothing stopping her retaining the memory as it wouldn’t impact the timeline.
Except it was the Time Lords who erased that event from her memory. She clearly has no memory of meeting 5 by the time she met 10, or she wouldn't have said that she thought 4 must have died when he was called back to Gallifrey.

No, it was a happy accident. He was created because Christopher Eccleston didn’t want to come back. Steven Moffat even sat down with Eccleston and talked with him about it and everything, but he thought it would be better not to try to convince him, and it made more sense anyway, given the Ninth Doctor’s comment upon seeing his ears in the first episode and all. But yeah, fixing the math from the Tenth Doctor’s line to Sarah Jane was just a cool coincidence.

This was good. I have tears 😢 in my eyes now seeing this. This was as good a tribute to the character Sarah Jane Smith and all she encountered on the show. Ashame Elizabeth Sladen didn't live long enough to take part in next year's 60th anniversary, I'm sure they would have asked her to cameo in some form or another.

I grew up with Tennant, but I had one DVD of Tom Baker featuring the Daleks and Sarah Jane. Fast forward only a couple years, to the pilot episode of the SJA. I felt like I knew a secret the other kids didn’t.

Having recently rewatched "the Hand of Fear" and "the Pyramids of Mars" I have reevaluated my opinion of Sarah Jane and have moved her up in my Companion list to nr. 3, after Rose Tyler and Ace. You go girl!

I didn’t watch Classic doctor who until I watch modern doctor who with Tennent, Eccleston, Smith, Capaldi, Gatwa and Whittaker . Sarah Jane adventures and Dr who is the reason why I watched
FYI the evil headmaster at the start of the video is played by Anthony Stewart Head. I love him in buffy the vampire slayer.

I love the subtle reference to Sutehk and the Pyramids of Mars with the Nasa rover.
The weird part is, despite it being the title of a 4 part story that mentioned it many times, this is the first time we actually see the titular Pyramid of Mars from the outside. I couldn't find a single establishing shot of the pyramid in the original story. Probably too expensive at the time to make a model of it.

I also have wondered if Sarah had met the other doctors the wrong way round. A young girl is walking into the old yard of gunk she is about 7 at this moment in time and sees an odd thing in the corner a old police box she goes towards it a voice from the shadows asks her not to touch, the voice also says who are you girl harshly. She replies, saying Sarah Smith. Oh, I think I know you. A old silver haired man comes from the shadows. The girl again asks how. I'm not sure he answers, then a smile appears on his face he then asks we haven't met yet have we? Some years later, that memory comes back to Sarah while her doctor is regenerating an old man she met him twice and forgot the first time, oh dear doctor, I wish you would recall that moment. She meets the tenth, and an old memory happens again she says nothing and reflects on this next adventure and what an adventure they will have continuesly till their meat one last time, all her doctors and her light vades into time, but her doctors will remember Sarah Jane Smith forever..
The Fantastic Mis Smith her adventures go far beyond the tardis into infinity of the memories of millions apon millions of fans old and new and beautiful memories of an incredible actor and wonderful person who gave Sarah Jane Smith that wonderful smile and possibly a sense of adventure and warmth of nature as a reporter and agent of Unite, later mother and guardian of earth, oh our favourite companion you will always Fantastic and bloody marvellous. Thank you for gracing the tardis and television for all those marvellous times, especially then and now in time and space where you will live in our memories our Sarah Jane Smith forever companion..
