Ciao, Sono italiano e vi ho scoperto adesso nell'internet. Sono fuori dall'Italia in questo momento. Congratulazioni per il vostro progetto. E vi auguro di stare bene! Antonio Hello, I am Italian and I just discovered you on the internet. I am out of Italy right now. Congratulations on your project. I wish you all the best! Antonio
I was wondering if you built in La Marche. The terrain is so telling. This region is a hidden gem. Wow to you both. Soooo beautiful inside and out. Your flooring reminds me of the cobbled patterns of the streets. So well done
Since Romanians were involved in the projectyou really have to change all your locks on the ingress doors. Most Romanians masons moonlight with a sketchy second job...
Congratulations! The result is amazing, I love it. And you've been so brave to even have started thinking about the enterprise. As far as I understand from the title, your home is in Marche (you don't need the article "le" when using the name of the region in a foreign language, as "le" is not part of its name, Marche region is just fine - sorry for the philological remark, professional bias 😁), a territory I know well enough as my parents bought their dream home there themselves when they retired (but they were closer than you, lived in Milan at the time), back in 2005. Their home is in the south of the region (province of Ascoli Piceno), on the coast, as they were dreaming of getting old with a seaview. Wish you the best for your Italian life, Paola
We are just coming on a tourist visa now. Limit of 90 days out of a rolling 180 day period. We toy with becoming residents, but it has some downsides, though we could stay longer.
Ice in drinks is for dumb.. Do you realize that you drink more water then coke, and you pay that frozen water a lot... Plus drinking very cold drinks is really bad for your stomach! A cold drink from the freeze, 100% drink, is much better!!
Thanks! We really like it. The view from behind towards the mountains is wonderful. We’re glad you like them. It encourages us to make more. We will be doing a house tour inside and out video next month. Look out for it.
Very perceptive question. Yes, we did, but the back of the house faces west, so the panels are on that side. The land slopes down to the west, so you can’t see them from anywhere on our property. You can from across the valley, but that’s how it goes. If you’d like to know more about the whole design and building process, on our website we track the whole process in detail. It ourbigitalianadventure.com. I know there are some posts about the choice and installation of the panels.
Great story. I am also from the Chicago area and am thinking about buying a house in Italy. Never considered building but def an option. For your build out and finishing, is there a cost per sq meter you were trying to hit? I did a big addition in lake Forest once and overruns couldn’t be avoided. How’s that in Italy?
Thanks! We lived for years in Wilmette after the city. I can give you very rough figures for 2017 in Le Marche. I’m sure it varies by area and timeframe. I’d say we spent €250 to €300 per square meter. It could have been less, because we spent too much on a custom kitchen. The total was about 25% more than the original budget. It took us only 15 months because we had a fantastic crew. Our project manager, an American, who has lived in Italy since about 2003, really made it happen. He’s primarily a real estate agent and doesn’t do project management anymore, but if you’re considering Le Marche he can make some great referrals. Our website, ourbigitalianadventure.com, goes through our building process in detail. I hope some of this is helpful.
In addition pay attention to the fact that ALL prices in Italy has grown up consistently after Covid and war in Ukraine due to the raise in energy and combustibles prices. Unfortunately that affected every category of products and mterials in the last 2 or 3 years...
Absolutely. Kevin Gibney at propertyforsalemarche.com. He also has a TH-cam channel at TH-cam.com/@propertyforsalemarche. Tell him Ed referred you. He’s great!

Grazie, Antonio. Apprezziamo il tuo bel commento e gli auguri per il futuro. Altrettanto!
I was wondering if you built in La Marche. The terrain is so telling. This region is a hidden gem.
Wow to you both.
Bit of a prosaic remarque, almost a rant: No bidet? 😂
Sorry. When we built the house, we didn’t know we would be almost insulting to Italians by not having bidets!

Great build. Italian craftsmanship is second to none from what I’ve seen. Congrats!
Yes. Interestingly, our work crew was a mixture of Italians and Romanians, though most of the real design elements did have an Italian touch.

@banmadabon we had no difficulties.
Gorgeous home. What an incredible process!

Beautiful home! Thank you for sharing your build orocess. Do you rent your Italian home when you're not there?
We haven’t so far, but it’s on our mind.
Your home is lovely. Thank you for sharing the step by step process. Are you living in Italy full time or you having to come back every 90 days?
We are just coming on a tourist visa now. Limit of 90 days out of a rolling 180 day period. We toy with becoming residents, but it has some downsides, though we could stay longer.
This was so interesting to watch. You guys are brave and have accomplished something quite amazing. Congratulations! :)
Thanks! It actually was a lot of fun to design and build the house.
Grazie.
Welcome to Marche ...hope you're close to Urbino ... wonderful countryside and wonderful city... Ciao 🍷
Hi. We love Urbino, too, but our house is near Macerata. Not too far for a day trip. We sometimes bring visitors up there.
@@OurBigItalianAdventureI was about to tell you to visit "le marche" during your adventure. Well done!
@fratalessandro Ascoli Piceno is one of our favorites.
@@OurBigItalianAdventure If you like the anise flavour, you have to try the typical liquors they make in Ascoli.
Will do. Thanks.
Bellissima casa,compliment.
Grazie! Ci piace moltissimo.
I agree: ice in drinks is totally needed😊
Absolute essential. Not a civilized society without it. A basic human right.

Forse è una delle cose americane che sembrano strane agli altri. Certamente, beviamo bevande calde o fredde, ma non tiepide.

Si, ha senso. Ma, nonostante questi fatti, è un’abitudine di lunga data. È una particolarità americana.
What a wonderful video - so much useful info.
Thanks! We enjoyed the process. Now we enjoy the results
We are starting the research part of our process and the information you provided was so informative and helpful! Grazie mille!

Hi Guys. Wonderful video and you have a beautiful home. Approximately how much did the land and build cost? Thanks so much
My costs are very out of date and a bit fuzzy in my mind. Maybe near €600K with the land and pool.
This is so beautiful and a wonderful job. Did you have any reservations about your solar installation obscuring the beautiful roof?
