They do start the process automatically once you are approved for the pathway. So when you get approved for the pathway, they automatically send that medical school verification then after you are verified, you'll get the certificate.
Hello. I have similar question. Before applying to step 1, I had sent my documents (medical school transcript, and dean's letter) to ECFMG via courrier and my form 186 was notarise via notary cam. Hello! Unfortunately, they want a certificate of good standing, and license won't do. They also want it from an email coming from the institution, or if you upload it yourself, they will be verifying it with the institution which might take longer.

So the Form 186 as I remember is just a certification for eligibility for taking the usmle steps, usually the step 1 and I think it has a 5 year validity, according to this iwa2.ecfmg.org/gradoverview.aspiwa2.ecfmg.org/gradoverview.asp. Your ecfmg certification is the one you get having fulfilled steps 1 and 2 ck, oet and pathway approval so technically, you apply for the ecfmg certification after getting the results for 2 ck and oet and not just after step 1.

So I gave my Usmle step 1 (2019) and step 2 CK after graduating (2018) which means that i had to upload certain medical education credentials. This year I will be applying for the match 2023 and have been pathway 1 approved. However the completion of ECMFG certification is still pending which i guess is only the medical credentials? Do i have to push for the next step or its automatically done? My university takes part in the online portal communication but its been 2 weeks or more since the pathway approval and I haven’t heard back anything?
Since you are already approved for the pathway, that means you don't really have to do anything. The approval of the medical school credentials should be between your med school and ecfmg. I would contact my medical school to follow up or get an update about the credential just to make sure that they received the documents from ecfmg.

Hello there, thanks so much for watching the video. Congratulations on making it this far! So in order to be eligible for the ECFMG certification, you need to pass your Step 2 CK. It will help if you are ECFMG certified when you apply to programs, as most of the programs prefer that but they are absolutely sending invites to applicants who aren't certified yet as well (all depending on the strength of your application). So for now, I would say focus on your Step 2 CK and make sure that the other parts of your application (USCE, CV, PS, and LORs) are complete. Also, make sure that you have your requirements ready for the pathway you are applying to since you have to apply for the pathway first before having the ECFMG certification process.

Hello! Congratulations on finishing CK, I'm sure you did well on that. You will get the certificate from the medical board that issued your medical license. Yes, OET is required for the pathway approval.

I believe that you pay it at the end, at least you had to upload the certificate of good standing there to process, for the oet you can upload later after paying cause that's what I did, I dont know if the rules changed.

Hello! So the ECFMG requires the medical school to send them an official transcript and an official diploma with the official school seal and I believe that they are checking for the authenticity of that rather than your subjects and hours taken during med school.

Certificate of Good Standing is given by the medical council in your country after obtaining your license to practice there as a doctor. It is needed to be approved of pathway 1 which is one of the pathways to get the ecfmg certification. 2. This contains the requirements for pathways and to understand more about it. I believe if you do not have a license to practice, you won’t be eligible for pathway 1 so you might want to check other pathways for that. 3. No you do not. You can take OET before 2 Ck, it is completely up to you. 4. I used FA, pathoma, BnB, and UW. A bit of goljan and osmosis, sketchy micro as well. (Yep I used a lot of resources, should’ve focused more on UW to be honest). 5. It is required by programs for matching. Also, this is required for Step 3, so after ecfmg certification, you’ll be eligible for step 3. 6. SURE, OF COURSE! Lol

Hi! You will be needing a certificate of good standing for pathway 1 if you are applying for it. That is given if you have a license to practice medicine in your country, and you don't get that from your college, you usually get it from the institution that issued your license. Of course, it varies between countries so best to ask medical graduates from your country.

Hi! Do you mean pathway approval? Once you're ecfmg certified, yes everything is done. However, pathway approval is different from ecfmg approval. It took me almost 3 months after being pathway approved to getting my ecfmg certification. It is mainly because my medical school credentials was pending, it was explained in the video.

We might have a different timeline since my medical credentials weren't verified even after my pathway approval so it took a lot longer for me. But once it is approved, you should be receiving an email from ecfmg that you are certified and that they will mail you the actual certificate. Upon receiving that email, I got my actual certificate 5 days after through mail. Hope I was able to answer your question.
You will be needing your medical diploma/degree for your ECFMG certification. For pathway 1, you need a medical license in your home country as it requires a letter of good standing for your license to be approved, with that, you will be needing a medical degree.
Hello, If I have my credentials verified by EPIC-ECFMG, will I need to go through the verification process with my med school, or I can retrieve that from EPIC?
I am not aware of EPIC for ECFMG so I'm afraid I cannot answer your question on this. The best thing to do is to call ECFMG regarding this to clarify because you don't want any delays in the verification process if your credentials can't be retrieved from EPIC.

Hello! Thanks for watching the video! So to answer your questions,
1. Certificate of Good Standing is given by the medical council in your country after obtaining your license to practice there as a doctor. It is needed to be approved of pathway 1 which is one of the pathways to get the ecfmg certification.
2. This contains the requirements for pathways and to understand more about it. I believe if you do not have a license to practice, you won’t be eligible for pathway 1 so you might want to check other pathways for that.
3. No you do not. You can take OET before 2 Ck, it is completely up to you.
4. I used FA, pathoma, BnB, and UW. A bit of goljan and osmosis, sketchy micro as well. (Yep I used a lot of resources, should’ve focused more on UW to be honest).
5. It is required by programs for matching. Also, this is required for Step 3, so after ecfmg certification, you’ll be eligible for step 3.

@@doctorsays1330 also will be starting my internship next month and it's for a year before the permanent licence however we will be given a provisional licence for that one year of internship

What does certificate of good standing mean ? Is it the one we ask from college ?
Hi! You will be needing a certificate of good standing for pathway 1 if you are applying for it. That is given if you have a license to practice medicine in your country, and you don't get that from your college, you usually get it from the institution that issued your license. Of course, it varies between countries so best to ask medical graduates from your country.

Hello, I am applying for Match 2023 via Pathway 1. I am left with CK which I will take in last week of July. My query is - Should I go ahead and apply for ECFMG certificate right now or should I wait for CK result to come out (probably in August)? What do you suggest and please tell me if it is even possible to apply for certification before getting CK score.
Also, if they issue me the certificate only after CK score is released why should I think about applying earlier?

So one of the requirements for the certification is passing Step 2 CK, this is true when applying for the pathway as well which is needed to be done before applying for the ECFMG certification. Hi! Do you mean pathway approval? Once you're ecfmg certified, yes everything is done. However, pathway approval is different from ecfmg approval. It took me almost 3 months after being pathway approved to getting my ecfmg certification. It is mainly because my medical school credentials was pending, it was explained in the video.

2. Once it is approved and the medical credentials are verified, how much time does it take for ECFMG Certification? According to the video, it appears that your certification came within a day.

@@tejveersingh4096 hey, 1. Yes, approval is indeed having the cgs and being done with oet. 2. We might have a different timeline since my medical credentials weren't verified even after my pathway approval so it took a lot longer for me. But once it is approved, you should be receiving an email from ecfmg that you are certified and that they will mail you the actual certificate. Upon receiving that email, I got my actual certificate 5 days after through mail. Hope I was able to answer your question.

To apply via pathway 1 or pathway 3, ECFMG certification doesnt require the actual degree right ? Only the credentials from our medical school?
You will be needing your medical diploma/degree for your ECFMG certification. For pathway 1, you need a medical license in your home country as it requires a letter of good standing for your license to be approved, with that, you will be needing a medical degree.
Hello, If I have my credentials verified by EPIC-ECFMG, will I need to go through the verification process with my med school, or I can retrieve that from EPIC?
I am not aware of EPIC for ECFMG so I'm afraid I cannot answer your question on this. The best thing to do is to call ECFMG regarding this to clarify because you don't want any delays in the verification process if your credentials can't be retrieved from EPIC.

Can I ask for CGS even before steps? I heard they r valid for 90 days. Say I plan for 2023 match can I apply for pathway verification and credential verification now?
You might want to wait for pathways for match 2023 because it might be different from the pathways for this match.
To be eligible for pathway one : it says you should be holding license of your home country (BUt not training ) so I want to know I hold lisence of Saudi to work as a General physician. Am I eligible to apply via pathway 1 ?
If you can provide them with a certificate of good standing for your license, I believe you are eligible. But please confirm this with ECFMG.

i passed step 1 in jan 2015, step 2 in may 2016, OET , jan 2022, iam already have valid medical license, am i ready for ecfmg application ?
Yes, you may apply to pathway 1 once ecfmg opens the application, once approved then you can apply for an ecfmg certification.

It might be different as they added pathways for 2021 compared to 2020. You might want to wait for ecfmg to open pathways for the next match before applying.
