Shake Your Rump is off of their best album Paul's Boutique, every song on the album is high energy, fast paced back and forth lyrics, its incredible. Check out "Shadrach" or "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun"
Dude the Beastie Boys ARE Hip Hop, literally in the dictionary next to the word Hip Hop there should be a pic of them. Beastie Boys started in 1978 with Mike D as a punk rock band, MCA and Ad Rock joined in 1983 and changed the group to hip hop. Think about that 1983 literally helped create hip hop pretty much generation 1.5. One of the most influential hip hop groups ever. So what ever they do is literally hip hop.
The "Woo-hah, got them all in check" sample was originally from Sugarhill Gang - 8th Wonder. The Beasties did sample it before Busta, though. The whole Paul's Boutique record was absolutely littered with samples. The Dust Brothers produced the album, and the Beastie Boys learned a lot from them, which they used on subsequent albums as they got more active in making their own beats, combining sample layering with playing their own instruments.
Because of the outrageous amount of samples on Paul's Boutique, it is widely regarded as "The potentially most expensive album to make if it were made today."
@@jbowen791 Yeah, that tracks. Which is sad. On principle, it should be considered fair use as long as the samples are used transformatively, but the justice system looks down on the artform and doesn't get that the point isn't to pass off someone else's work as ones own, but to play the music recordings themselves as strings on a single instrument in a meta-musical expression.
Yeahhh,, Now you in the proper path for Beastie Boys best music ! that "woo-hah, got them all in check" was sampled from Sugarhill Gang's song "8th Wonder"... very old school rap that the Beasties sampled and of course Busta later made it his hook.
When the Beasties are wearing 70s style, really funky outfits... Its because they were renting a house in LA at the time that belonged to a famous couple (the Grasshoffs. Film director and actress). They had this door with a padlock on it. After a while the BBoys got curious and broke it open. They found a gold mine of 70s shit. Fur coats. Pimp hats. Platform shoes. Lol. So the BBoys messed around with that wardrobe in videos like Shake you Rump and Hey Ladies (big time 70s wardrobe in this video 😆). They're just goofin around trying to make each other laugh most of the time. Best friends since early teens.
Woo Hah!! Got You/Them All in Check is from a sample from 1980 - Sugarhill Gang's "8th World Wonder". In fact, they (Sugarhill) sued Busta for copyright infringement.
Its a fish lens they used to record. Popular with skateboard videos in 80s and 90s with Spike Jonze (others also) who directed many Beastie Boy videos though MCA directed this one.
These Dudes are the foundation of Hip Hop LOL. Everyone sampled them. Chuck D, Flavor Flay and LL credited their carriers to them. They started this back in 1985.
That first line is "I'll beat a *biter down with an aluminum bat." That "got you all in check" sample is from the song "8th Wonder" by The Sugarhill Gang. Check out "Paul Revere" and "The New Style."
Cool channel man. I just watched all of your Beastie Boys reactions up to this point. Kudos for being real. Professor Booty was an odd choice for an introduction so I'm not surprised it didn't grab you. Sabotage is another story as it's one of my favorites lol. But it's also a pretty jarring shift from Professor Booty lol, so yeah. The Beastie Boys are a weird bag. Their music is kind of all over the place and there's always a fun and goofy element to it. They rocked hard but didn't take themselves too seriously, so I can see why a new listener might be confused. They also cover a lot of different ground so it's hard to pin down what their "sound" actually is until you've heard a few songs. I'm glad you stuck with them because as you see now, the more songs you hear, the more you'll "get" them, and the more you appreciate them. I recommend "Ch-Ch-Check It Out". I'm surprised more people aren't asking for that one. I also challenge you to go back and re-listen to Sabotage after you've heard maybe a dozen songs or so. I wonder if you'll feel differently about it once you've really gotten a feel for their vibe.
The Beastie's gave LL Cool J's demo to Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons, LL inducted the Beastie's (along with Chuck D) into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
LYRICS: Now I rock a house party at the drop of a hat I beat a biter down with an aluminum bat A lot of people they be jonesin' just to hear me rock the mic They'll be starin' at the radio, staying up all night So like a pimp I'm pimpin', I got a boat to eat shrimp in Nothing wrong with my leg I'm just B-Boy limpin' Got arrested at the Mardi Gras for jumpin' on a float My man MCA's got a beard like a billy goat Oowah oowah, is thedisco call MCA, hu-huh, I'm gettin' rope y'all Routines I bust and the rhymes that I write And I'll be bustin' routines and rhymes all night Like eatin' burgers or chicken andyou'll be pickin' your nose I'm on time homey that's how it goes You heard my style, I think you missed the point It's the joint
The 'Got you all in check' part was itself a sampled from Sugahill Gang's '8th Wonder' - which both the Beastie's and Busta sampled. The more you know...
you gotta understand, this was made in 1988/89, which means hardly computer use and most of these beats you hear, are use today and originated with this album
“Never been jumped” is a straight-up lie. Parents wouldn’t let their kids hang out with Michael Diamond (Mike D); he was such a target his nickname was “Muggable Mike” (according to their book).

Been waiting to see you react to this song and you didn't disappoint man! You're channel is gonna be on my top reators from now on. Like I said before this is my favorite track from them, the part with the cat on the turn tables always gets me. 😂 If you can, react to a guy named Chris LeDoux and his songs "Hooked on an 8 second ride" and "This cowboy's hat", I know it's completely twist from hip hop but I think you'd enjoy diving into the lyrics. Just a little background information about Chris and why I chose him. Chris LeDoux started off as a bronc rider and became an NFR rodeo champ in the late 70's. He started writing songs about rodeo and his experiences while on the road and has become an icon in the rodeo community. As a bull rider his music always inspires me to keep riding and perfectly reflects the love for the sport and the thrill of being a part of it. One again, great job man!
This is what the lyrics are Never been dumped, 'cause I'm the most mackinest Never been jumped, 'cause I'm known the most packinest Not drunk. It does sound like drunk though.
Please react to "Too Many Rappers" (feat Nas) and Sure Shot. In case you wanna get the Beasties lyrics right, remember that all their official videos have closed captions with the words. 😉
You don't understand. If AdRock hadn't listened to a 16 year olds tape, you wouldn't have LL. Public Enemy opened for them. That sample is from 8th Wonder, Sugarhill Gang. Maybe you should watch Root Down, 3 MCs and 1 DJ.
This came out in 89, 2 years before the first Leaders of the New School album, definitely not a Busta sample lol. Also, he said "beat it like a billy goat' not beard like a billy goat 😂
When MCA passed away in 2012 Busta Rhymes said on Twitter that the Beasties were one of his biggest influences

They always bring a big ole smile to me face. But your reaction somehow makes it even better. You could react to "Brass Monkey."
“The new style!”
If you are an old school rap fan, little known fact AdRock of the Beastie Boys programed the drum machine for LL Cool J's 1st hit, I Need a Beat
And handed his demo tape to Rick Rubin to get him signed.
WHOO-AHH!! WHOO-AHH!!! (scratchin') WHOO-AHH!!!
Something modern hip-hop is missing: FUN!

Got to get on “Get it Together” featuring Q-tip from Tribe Called Quest
A reminder. Made in 1989.
That’s all.
Paul’s Boutique is a master class in overlaying samples.
If ya really wanna work them subs at different bass frequencies Paul's Boutique is the album for that

Please do a reaction to Beastie Boys “Root Down”.
Yes YES YESSSSSSS
This HE!
And Sure Shot
Root Down is such a dope song since it's a shot out to hip hop itself but hope he knows his hip hop history to get it.
The Woo hah part was from the Sugar Hill Gang's classic "8th Wonder" from 1980. That was SHG's phrase Busta used.
Glad to see more of the Kings of hip hop! 🇬🇧
This song is a Dust Brothers track that they were gonna use as an audio only track for the club. The boys heard it and asked to use it.

Packin. like packin a punch. Yes they were sampled. EVERYTHING on LICENSE TO ILL is fire! It's their first album. Released in 1986
Packin. Carrying a firearm. 80s slang.
Whenever I see fish-eye lens on the camera I think of Beastie Boys.

I think you would like Sure Shot, Get It Together (featuring Q-tip), Root Down, Triple Trouble, Ch-check It Out, Alive.
6:28 ...the moment you realize the Beastie Boys we sampled *routinely* in modern hip hop... Great reaction
You gotta please check out car thief or high plans drifter from Paul’s boutique. Can I donate some money for either one of these songs?
The amount of audio bites in this album is staggering

High Planes Drifter. 😎😎😎
That PHAT Bass line on the chorus is sampled off The Rose Royce "Car Wash" album!

"Gratitude" has a HEAVY FAT bass sound... MCA rocks... And the vidéo is a "tribute" to Pink Floyd's Live at Pompei performance.
