When you watch the Beasties interacting in the rooftop footage, its abundantly clear how giving they were to each other, and would step out the way for each to have their moment in the lens, never ever about "me", and always about "us".

I worked at a record shop when Paul's Boutique came out, and NOBODY wanted it. You could have handed out copies and people would have handed them back. This is how far ahead of everybody they were. It took years for this album to get the recognition it deserved. I remember seeing this video back on MTV, and it gave me chills. I see this now, and it still gives me chills.

That beat is pure madness. So much stuff, sounds, odd melodies, funky bass lines, lot of different snares, amazing cymbals, punchy kick, top notch engineering/production. Porn for ears. I miss in newschool music production like this, seriously some people just don´t understand why i prefer this kind of production. It aged perfectly. That middle section with turntables/scratches with that brutal bass line... it brought tears in my eyes.

I think most people don’t realize the amount of time, and tedious effort that it took to create this album. Recorded analog. Actual tape loops. Also from a stylistic standpoint, what a huge shift from License to ILL. They grew up, no more mindless frat boy music exploiting women. Paul’s Boutique was a huge turning point in their career, especially moving forwards when they began to add more live instrumentation to their music.

A sophisticated, progressive, energizing & often amusing joint, the epoch-making Beastie Boys (w/help from the D Brothers) masterpiece Paul's Boutique is a stunning achievement, the impact of which can't be overstated representing a period in which the B. Boys seemed to expand significantly as artists & human beings.
My bruvs, GFs and I listened to this frequently and regularly and it never went completely out of rotation, increasing our yields of feat i.e. electrifying-ly good times past present and future w/PB as d ultimate sndtrck. Thanks, Beastie Boys!
