    a lot of daws have "flex pitch" type of feature which you can also use for the "gain" feature of the breakouts. But yeah usually manually is the way to to go with the most control. I use Melodyne for individual phrase gains because it has an envelope feature to blend if needed. nice tut though, lots of people dont think about these things and everyone looks for a "one button solution" which is fantasy.. or at worst leads to an uncontrollable result.example: like people trying to control the dynamic range of the entire song with a single compressor. keep on making tunes out there! thanks for contributing.

    Hey I like your videos very informative. When you say you only have autotune on “no processing” do you mix on the main track and through the All Vox bus where the gate, pro q3 and pro mb is? There is some processing there. Is that like a “set it and forget it” bus as well as the Vocal Master bus being a set it and forget it bus? Or is there tweaking there depending on the song. This is a very clean look and I like to try new ways of setting up different templates for productivity

    Thumbs up to you for this helpful info. Quick question! How do i refresh peak levels in Pro Tools? Do i hold down command on mac and click on the peak level on the right side of the channel fader? Or do i click on the peak level without holding down the command key. Thanks

    • @JkeysOfficial
      @JkeysOfficial 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alt/option + right click 💯

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      First you need to display peak volume which I do by holding command and clicking, then if you hold option and click again, it should reset. I believe you can also hold option+C while it’s playing and it’ll clear. Apologies if this ain’t correct, I’m going off memory while I’m AFK but will edit this comment later if I find out it’s something else

    oh okay so you don't bother with a vu meter when gain staging?

    • @R3BBiT
      @R3BBiT ปีที่แล้ว

      Yo! Imma give my two cents. It doesn’t really matter that much with VU meters in the digital realm, unless you’re using a console or using analog gear 😊 The dbfs meter that all daws have should be very usable for setting volume

    I wanna how to duck delay the right way well not the right way the best way that sounds good

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmmm it’s kind of a trick question because delay ultimately should be placed where there is space for it, aka a pause in a vocal performance where a repeat is needed.
      Ducking a delay may ultimately defeat the purpose since it’ll make it less audible. you’d probably be better off not using the delay at all, and only find room for where there is space for it. I talk about this in my 10 vocal delay tips video: th-cam.com/video/mqoddx95Iy0/w-d-xo.html

    • @flipnap2112
      @flipnap2112 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      there are plenty of tutorials how to use compressors on the delay (or reverb, etc) with the main Vox side chained as a trigger. its no different than using a voice to duck music on radio commercials.

    I would have to replay this 5 lol, so I can apply it in Logic. You were talking so fast although it makes sense, but using the mixer view I would have better understood. **Rewind** thanks for sharing

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never use the mixer view because the view I show in Pro Tools here displays all the same things mix view does, plus more that it doesn’t. Definitely watch it a few times or at least the key sections that stood out (chapter markers provided) and also check out the linked videos for additional help as that other video How To Set Levels When Mixing may give some additional perspective 🤙🏼

    • @ELMCinc
      @ELMCinc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@5piece it was more so understanding how you setup the subgroups, master vox etc. I understood everything else. Protools layout is completely different than Logic. Just have to rewatch to setup the groups and test out your theory. Example, my main vox goes to an aux, bgv to an aux, etc but then how would I route them all to one aux (master vox in your video)?

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ELMCinc you would manually change the output of all of those subgroups to the same master. While Logic will automatically create an output path for a new channel, you can still go in and manually change it. I’ve used Logic extensively in the past and have done this. I’ve shown tons of folks in Logic (in my 1 on 1 lessons) how to do this so I know you’ll be able to make it work as well once you wrap your head around it 🤙🏼
