    Simply awesome! Have seen self-igniting HPS lamps before but never a self ballasted one!

      +CAL'S ENGINEERING That was a bit of a turn up that one, had them for a long time and never bothered to see if they work. I do love surprises!

    Awesome old lamps that you have there, from the days when even things like that were built to last an age and when the people who worked in the plants that made them were also often the end users.

      +Nick DePaiva Hi Nick, I think that the 1st lamp I ran was a self Ballasted type. Glad you liked the video and great to hear that you are from Florida, there are a lot of Americans based here in central Australia with the joint defense facility. Great people and they come from all over the States, Marylands, Texas, and of course Florida. I do hope to visit the USA one day and get to travel around a bit, so much to see.

      +Nick DePaiva I believe there are a few companies associated on site, Raytheon is one I know of, not sure about Lockheed martin.

    Nice! Hope your future lister recovery goes well!
    Interesting lamp/holder you've got in there, with four or more bulbs!
    Nice older portable radio too, with several bands not just AM/FM, that's useful!

      +TheFurriestOne That old radio is a good unit, found it in a junk shop for a few Dollars and works great! Handy to listen to when working, the 'short wave' bands also seem to be ok. Hopefully later in the year I will take another trip out bush to find that CS!

      ***** Nice! I found an AM/FM unit in a wrecking yard once. Hopefully that drone makes the search easier!

      This method is an old pulse generation method. It was mainly manufactured by a Japanese manufacturer. I also have this lamp.

    You always seem to post up something interesting:) Think most of those old globes are toast!!
    Any lister projects lately? I'm currently rebuilding a TS3 generator which is very new compared to what I'd like to be working on. Cheers from Canada (still a bit snowy!)

      +Railfan6675 Thanks for your comments, yes, most of those globes are finished, I saved them from old light head fittings when I worked for the local power company 30 years ago so they are getting on a bit. LEDs are slowly phasing out the older light units. I am getting some engines ready for a local Heritage day here in central Australia, I was going to head out bush to search for an abandoned CS1 Lister the property owner told me about, I even have got a Drone with an onboard camera to help search for it as the tracks are overgrown. Sadly we had some widespread rains during the summer which prevents travel in some areas so I will wait till winter when the country dries out a bit. I will hopefully make another video of the recovery effort and post it, good luck with your project and hope warm weather arrives to thaw things out, hopefully one day I will visit Canada, sounds like its an amazing country! Regards from central Australia (getting cooler now, only 36 Centigrade or 100 F.)

    Nice video its interesting to see all the different types of streetlite tubes you got a good score there mate. was the ballast a choke or transformer?

    • @rustymotor
      @rustymotor  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jon johnson They are an interesting assortment, some with preheat filaments for starting. Its a Ballast, found it in some streetlight heads that were dumped in the scrub, its been in the weather a bit.

      +The Rambling engineer. Found that in a second hand shop on the Melbourne road at Stawell, cost around $10 I think, works well and use it when working in the shed. Very well made that one.
