    Coming from cine cameras like the Panasonic GH5s, Zcam E2, BMPCC4k. The Nikon Z30 is the best camera I have ever used. Gets me the shoot 100% of the time with none of the struggle. Nobody notices 1080p exported as 4k, but my storage and editing speed thanks me. I put the Nikon back to back with the other cameras once in a while and I always prefer the Nikon look at 1/5 the file size. I just hope the next model is 10bit.

    I've been really happy with the ZV-E1. I was worried about overheating when some of the early reviews came out; however, I have yet to have a heat warning pop up on mine even when shooting in 4k120 for several minutes in direct sunlight in Florida. I don't think I'd trust it if I were filming for an hour or two straight, but for less than 30 minute clips, it has been flawless for me.

    A bit much to take all in. It used to be the big5 : Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon and Fuji, would have been nice to break it down over the course of a week. But now with DJI, Black Magic and Go Pro, you could make it into a whole series! You should come back on the Osmo, there’s some people out there promoting it as the "One Man Studio" cam, it would be nice if you could go a little more in-depth.

    Hi Kasey, loving the daily videos. I have a question about computer monitors. I currently have a pretty nice 24" Dell UltraSharp monitor that's served me well for almost a decade, but it's only 1080p and non-HDR. I'm still happy with it, as my Canon RP outputs 1080p video footage in 8bit so that's all I need. But I'm about to get a GoPro which does 4k/5.3k in 10bit. How important is it to upgrade to a 4k HDR monitor? Or can I save a few hundred dollars and remain in blissful ignorance of how good 4k looks?
    And also: how about a 1440p monitor? Would that be a good compromise between resolution and price? Or do you think that with 4k footage I would absolutely need a 4k monitor?

    • @joelbeets
      @joelbeets ปีที่แล้ว

      4k is nice but we are in the early stages of the OLED revolution. Contrast and colors that blow away mini LED technology. Liquid light. The problem is that OLED screens start at around 43” and get larger. My recommendation, though you didn’t ask for it, is to wait until there is a smaller, less expensive OLED screen in a few years. I want to upgrade my IPad but I’m waiting for an OLED version.

    • @Fessoid
      @Fessoid ปีที่แล้ว

      is it TH-cam almost 4k? Not yet, same true for video-sites with free film viewing.
      As for me i wanna try 2560x1440 px monitor (some BenQ model) cause i have many old videos even less then 720p and alot of old games with same resolution :)
      4k for me is overkill, + more efficient computer gear is needed (including internet)

    • @fabian_99
      @fabian_99 ปีที่แล้ว

      i've had the benq PD 3220U since like 2 years for that exact reason.. you'll even see a difference if you shoot 4k on a 1080 P screen (oversampling and stuff like that) but when you get a 4K screen youll be blown away at how beautiful it looks, until you get used to the 4K beauty then everything is the same again... but youll appreciate it for a good 2 Months

    I have gone through soooo many cameras In the last year. My sweet spot is actually the zv-e1 for the image and ease of use on the go. For image quality I kept the bmpcc4K. BTW it has both auto focus and auto exposure, however limited. Af is single af and auto exposure can use iris and shutter. On or the other or both at the same time with one having priority. I wouldn’t really use it for anything serious but you can fire it up to set exposure and switch it if again to lock it. C200 in raw was a massive letdown. Trying to pull anything from the shadows would end up in disaster.

  • @JoATTech
    @JoATTech ปีที่แล้ว +5

    In Olympus realm OM-5 seems to be sweet spot for vlogging. It's almost 200g lighter then OM-1, and to everything for video making. It's 8bit AFAIR but it will do. I think I'm going to try it with Leica 9mm soon ...

    • @SKIDSnSTUFF

      Which means the OMD EM5 Mark3 is actually the sweet spot of the Olympus range.
      You're welcome.

    • @JoATTech
      @JoATTech ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SKIDSnSTUFF Unfortunately it's not the case. Cause it got record limit and the most important for video does not have AutoISO feature in Manual mode. Sure if you do not care about 180 degree shutter you can get away with Aperture priority mode where it's supposed to have auto ISO. Not sure if got Olympus LOG.
      But lately there was olympus cashback and you could get OM-5 at the prices of EM5 III brand new ... hope there will be another cashback ... I find cashback kinda stupid, but what can you do :(.

    • @SKIDSnSTUFF
      @SKIDSnSTUFF ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @JoATTech oh snap, I didn't realise the OM5 got autoISO/M. I just been dealing with splitting the difference (with highlights/lowlights) on the EM5M3. Cheers for the heads up, it's worth the upgrade to the OM5 just for that.
      Now if they'd just sort out their SlowMo picture profile I would want for nothing

    • @JoATTech
      @JoATTech ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@SKIDSnSTUFF I'm 99% sure it got AutoISO in M mode, it's based on reading the manual myself :D, zero reviewers mention it :(, guess they are not aware it was a limitation before. I'm planning to buy used OM-5 (actually there is 1 in my Country) but I'm kinda waiting for Black Friday deals :D. If I get it next week I will definetely check it and maybe publish some first impressions video, cause I never had Olympus camera before :D

    • @SKIDSnSTUFF
      @SKIDSnSTUFF 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Recently received the OM5 and I'm blown away how many extra features and options have been added that no one mentions. Not only does it have auto ISO in M for video it allows exposure compensation which I had seen somewhere claim it did not. It does. It even has real slow motion now that records in which ever profile you have set, both flat and Om log.
      I was bummed when noticed they took away video switch on the FN lever option (Edit: actually it does allow Lever2 position as Video Mode, but I kinda like this new workflow anyway), but they have actually just implemented the video mode custom button options in a better way, now allowing the FN lever to be flicked to "2" in video mode which makes the f and r dials into volume control and exp comp.
      This thing is mint!

    So of all of those, seems overall it’s probably the ZV-E1 that’s the sweet spot? - tiny, 4k60 no crop, 4k120 minimal crop, AI autofocus, new colour science, all the features like loading luts, false colour, etc etc. I’m so excited about this camera, seems in a league of its own. Shitty LCD and no viewfinder but using an iPad as a monitor works surprisingly well.

    X-H2s when compared to the OM-1 just couldn't hold up for color science and something about the dynamic pop of images. I can't say what it is about the OM-1, but I decided to keep it and return the X-H2s. The added MP was nice, and there was more dynamic range potential. However, in real-world use, I never experienced the extra DR. It was strange. I was surprised. It could have been the lens options limiting me, but there you are again faced with the limitations of Fuji lenses. I'd love it if the OM-1 could shoot 10-bit outside of log, or use a profile that's not just a photo profile. Or at least if it let you customize the photo profile just for video mode. Like why not keep these separate? It's frustrating. I suppose you could customize a photo profile and just use that for video, but it seems an extra step you shouldn't have to take. I notice that 4K is sharpened more than photos in the photo modes used. So you have to dial the sharpness back in photo profiles if you select them for video. I use vivid a lot for landscape and wildlife, but it's too sharp for that purpose. It's 0 point sharpness is much more intense than the 0 point in the "natural" profile.

    a6700 sweet spot. Best sony APS-C sensor, 10 bit, 4k/120p, IBIS, EVF, lightweight, nice grip, best AF for $1400. FF is too big setup and too heavy and too expensive. On sony APS-C i have 70-350 super lightweight telephoto, cheap and lightweight prime 1.4 lenses, and so much choice in lenses.

    yes.. ZV-E1 is that boul..!!! ill do 40 minute takes with it at a pop,, no problems.. no overheating ever..
    its funny.. i got into cameras at a young age.. maybe at like.. 15. back in say 02-03.. filming skateboarding with friends.. we used the rich kids Sony VX1000.. and that was like idk.. 480i and we thought it was the best.. then in college.. freshman year,, we had Panasonic DVX100B and HVX as the standard.. with 24p and 1080i (i think.. might have done p) 'CCD chip as well.. then, sophomore year, all the cmos DSLRs came out with 1080p and shallow focus photo lenses.. Canon stole the show.. so when we started with the RED One.. we thought.. oh , do we really need 2k or 4k.. isn't 1080p enough... lol,, well.. i swore 2k was sufficient... but think of the old monitors we used.. now with a 5k iMac.., 4k feels like a must to me.. and I actually prefer 6k at this point if optional.. but now,, I can safely say.., I would never need anymore resolution than 6k.. latitude and color science is where its at honestly.. but yeah, 1080p just ain't doing it for me these days..

    I hear rumors of a Lumix G100 mk 2. I don't know if that will be a thing and don't really believe rumors usually, but I was thinking about it and that would kick ass with phase detect... Though if it doesn't have IBIS like the mk 1, I dunno.

    i just cant do those canon cameras. especially second hand. that overheating is a big deal to me. a camera not working is probably a big deal to most people lol. r8 is a big no from me :( as much as i love canon cameras otherwise

    I was so tempted by the ZV-E1. Top image quality for great value. Definitely the Sony sweet spot.
    Ended up going FX-30 once they went on sale. Mainly because FX-30 has a fan and can be run confidently all day for live production. No SDI but the full HDMI port is nice vs the small ports that break. Great autofocus. Not the greatest stabilization, better than some. Catalyst browse is a miracle, but you lose the 10 bit. Sony requires a subscription to Catalyst Prepare to output files in 10 bit.

    For me, R8 is a no go. Too little battery life, not enough stabilization. ZVE1 is also a no go, because i want that view finder. If it at least had a crisp screen, then I would consider it, but sadly it has a potato (probably the worst screen of all modern cameras).
    So it leaves me with either a G9II or a S5II(x). I'll likely go with a latter simply because I don't care too much about slow motion, but I really do want a stellar low light performance.

      it does feel like a prerelease or beta release.. hence the hammertime.. they all have shortcomings I feel the frustration that CC is dealing with.. someone mentioned Z8 Z9 thats the wrong use case altogether.. way overkill. The Z30 also feels like an unbaked release.. they are just product cycling.. be patient they said.. the sports action offerings all seem gimmicky at best..
