  • You may recall seeing the K3 in action in our Deer Stalking video a few weeks ago. it's not often that Jonny has a full-blown love affair with a rifle but he can't hide his feelings for this one.

    Anytime a gun manufacture has a firearm in sold with a mannlicher style stock, it quickly grabs my attention. I have a few Ruger M-77s with mannlicher stocks and absolutely love them. I am very excited to see a hinge action firearm with full length stock. The wood quality appears to be top notch! I am very impressed with Merkel. I must invest in one of these rifles soon! Thank you for a look at a firearm I probably would never have seen.

    Made to shoot game with. I like the matted subdued finish. I don't like shiny guns, learned the hard way on a hard two weeks in Newfoundland looking for a moose. The shine of the 300 Weatherby MK V- german make back in 1972 spooked that moose and never go a shot. A 308 or 7mm 0 8 would be more than enough in a short light rifle like that. Put a 1.5 to 5 power Scope on it and you would have an excellent package to hunt with for life and so will your great-grandchildren.

    • @wildrangeringreen
      @wildrangeringreen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      being further from your eye can make it a little easier to use quickly (you see it a lot on Dangerous game rifles), plus it makes it easier for people to attach modern scopes with larger objectives without having to resort to high rings/mounts AND still have the sights on (nice if you drop your rifle in the mountains and break the scope). A shorter sight radius tends to make it harder to have as precise of a sighting, but I'm guessing they're assuming if you are going to be shooting at 200-300 yards, you'll mount a scope, rather than use open sights (I like my open sighted guns though lol)

    Had a chance to shoot that gun in Austria... and whilst having a lager frothed with a red hot poker in a hotel that looked more like a natural history museum, not a spitting distance from Hitlers birth place; Johkan, who puts most of his kills on the menu told me that he and his mates hardly ever shoot multi barrel or bolt action anymore but prefer single shot... Clearly for the sake of a kiss philosophy but interestingly they cover each others shots. So I guess that's another way to have a second round at the ready without the burden of weight. The gun is perfect in my opinion and though short, when dressed up against the cold mid or late season the LOP is fine. Would like to have one.

    Couldn't have said it better my self, that is especially true here in the US. That's largely why I choose not to pay attention to rifles here, but the shotgun market is getting more and more corrupted with the whole "shockwave" thing going on...

      The rifle has a 22 inch barrel, so fairly regular for a .30-06 but due to the much shorter action start further back. So not a lot of muzzle flash
      The rifle is handy, light and portable, great for a blind or stalking.
      A typical German "Short-barrel" cartridge would be 8x57IS /IRS

      Also the people working in manufacturing get paid a living wage.
      Easy Caliber-swapping, and a well designed, strong action.
      Stronger in fact that other regular break actions
      The barrel is old hammerforged, making thd rifle even more durable.
      The rifle is incredibly light and handy, literal hole-in-hole accuracy.

    British people talking about guns scares me. "That sniper crap" may not mean anything if your face is crooked and you can't shoot right anyway, but if you wanted to be able to hit something from a mile away, a freefloated barrel is kind of a big deal. It's a great gun for hunting with class, but nothing really else. That aside, it's a beautiful weapon.
