- Tom tests out the new Merkel K3 in .308 Winchester. Three different types of ammunition are shot at 100m with the rifle being dismantled and cleaned in between each group.

I have a Merkel K3 Extreme in 30-06. Mine shoots similar groups with Federal Premium 180 grain Accubonds. I took it on a Wyoming elk hunt last year and killed a nice bull at 537 yards. FYI, I was shooting mine across the hood of my truck and the muzzle blast cracked my windshield! I’m going to test some lighter, probably 150 grain, bullets soon for deer hunting here in Tennessee. I’m also considering trying some Hornady Custom Lite 125 grain SST ammo. They have reduced velocity and energy but still adequate for deer out to 300 yards, and about half the recoil. Those 180s thump pretty good in 6 pound rifle!
@@mackandrews6387 I’ve found that my K3 prefers heavier bullets than lighter ones. I’ve tried 130, 150, 155 and 165 bullets in it. The groups were ok with the 130gr (around 1MOA) but tightened up the heavier I went. 165gr were pretty thumpy so I compromised and went for 150!
Sweet setup , hard to get fixed European scopes in the states , love to have that combo!!
