    What a fine piece of steel you got there. Can't wait to see that proper stock. Awesome content, as always.

      It's quite lovely thank you! Very slim and light, shoots surprisingly well. Hopefully a wood stock will give me the whole "pride of ownership and memories in the patina" package. Nature is beautiful and nice piece of wood is a good reminder.

    I absolutely love the K95, I don't have one myself, but if they had one with a .22 barrel, I might just have to get one 🤭, seems like a break Acton lightweight rifle with a higher cheek piece for those longer shots could be an interesting proposition for long range, hiking style hunting 🤔

      I am growing more and more fond of the K95 for the same reasons you describe. But the stock seems a bit fragile to me, coming from a carbon/ Clymr/Ultimate style stock.

      @@THLR The first thing I do now with a hunting rifle is to take the wood stock off, put it in my humidified closet and keep that for the day I may sell the rifle. I put on Bell and Carlson aluminum core stocks and bed that. Now you have me thinking to try a more pistol grip stock.
      An issue I have is that I’m right handed, but my right eye doesn’t work well from childhood amblyopia, so I’m changing over to left-hand shooting. That makes my first shot extra critical since I have to turn or flip up the rifle to run the bolt for a second shot.

    • @THLR
      @THLR  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnDavidHays smart! It is usually wet here (often 60-70% humidity, often a little salty) and I keep a dehumidifier in my basement for a constant 30-35%. Good for electronics, but I guess I'm tormenting a wooden stock.

    • @JohnDavidHays
      @JohnDavidHays 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THLR Well, I have about a hundred antique wooden chess sets, so that’s why I keep the walk-in closet humidified. Here in New Mexico it is semi-desert and extremely dry. All wood warps here. For my hunting rifles I put the wood away because I don’t want to hesitate or cringe trying to avoid dings, scratches and dents. I baby my scope, not my rifle.

    Good stuff, thank you. I have been impatiently waiting for some full videos on the K95. Shooting , loading, etc. I've been looking for a K95 for a while now, and am about to put one on order as they are very hard to find here otherwise. Want to send that old beat-up try stock to the U.S.? Looks good to me!

      The original plan for this season was actually shooting a light rifle vs normal weight rifle, but those plans were scrapped once I realized how well it shoots. Not that I understand it, at 2.4kgs (5lbs?), with a split stock and a foreend attached to the barrel I wasn't expecting what it does. There will be more films showing just what it does, I have also planned to do some incline shooting with it, weather permitting. I suspect the new K95 has stock lines closer to mine, but plain stay away from the traditional "hogback" stocks. They are just terrible. Unless you get one cheap. I spent about $450 to have a professional split&splice my stock, it is so well done you cannot see the seam if not for the contrasting wood.

    • @SLG1911
      @SLG1911 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THLR I didn't realize you had the "Bavarian style" stock before. I don't know if I could find a guy in the states to do what you had done to it, very impressive. I am definitely looking for the American style. The pistol grip is probably the same on both though. I know there are stock duplicators here, but again, not common and very expensive afaik. Can't wait for the rest of the videos.
      In particular, I'm dying to know if the gun exhibits any POI shift if you go from bipod to bag, to sticks to anything else. Does the different pressure mess with it?

      @@SLG1911 Myhr Våpenservice did my work, I was very satisfied with his work. I am still learning this rifle system, so will not voice any opinions yet. K95's are rare here, much stronger traditions for these rifles in central and southern Europe, but they do occasionally pop up on the secondhand market. Buying new was not realistic for me. I have been told the tension on the set screw on the foreend can influence precision a great deal, but I have no experience. I sent my rifle to be checked by a Blaser gunsmith (Armatech) as the foreend tension between my two barrels was a little different, not sure what he did. The classic stocked US version should be good, pistol grip was not awful, just a little "lift" by which I mean it required some attention as not to lift the pistol grip when firing and putting the shot a little low. I only added 0.3mm mass or 1/10" to remedy grip angle.

    • @SLG1911
      @SLG1911 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THLR Very interesting stuff, thank you. My understanding is that the forend needs to be slightly adjusted for each new barrel, and that is likely what they did. Not quite as drop in as the R8, but once adjusted, you can use a bunch of barrels with no issue.

    quick question... ill take my single shot blaser on a hunt fir the first time this year and i'm not entirely sure how to have a 2nd round at the ready for a potential follow up shot. do you just lay out a few rounds at your position? where's do you place that 2nd a 3rd bullet? do you flip the gun sideways to break it open (i do on the range when prone) or does your tripod require an up/down tilt? do you feel like that interferes with the ground potentially? and how do you go about quickly reacquiring the target after a reload?

    • @THLR
      @THLR  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have no good solution to that either. I have one of those velcro thingies that holds two rounds, I keep that in my right pocket, bullet pointed towards the groin. I naturally lean left when opening rifle/reaching for ammo. Sometimes I put it on the ground next to me (rarely). I lie fairly straight behind the rifle, so if I can see it with my left eye, I can usually also see it with my right eye when scoped or at least be sufficiently oriented to quickly aquire the target.

    Knall video som alltid! Av rein nysgjerrighet likte du ikke clymr stokken så godt? Siden du er på en kipplauf i stede for å få en hansen kasse paret med gunwerks stokken.

      Clymr er knall, men kipplauf er barndomsdrømmen. Lovet meg selv en kipplauf da jeg var ferdig utdannet, nå kom den, 20 år forsinket. Mtp bygge så tviler jeg at man får en boltrifle så slank/lett som 2.4 kg. Min Clymr er ingen tungvekter men definitivt tyngre.

    • @THLR
      @THLR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got you. NO a single shot really does something with your mental state. Last year I was allowed to go for chamois alone (no guide to find/ supervise). It was a great experience, but knowing that all that trust would evaporate if I fired that one shot without returning with a correct animal... not sure how to describe it, but I was VERY "present" for that shot, more so than with a repeater.
