I typically get 6 months from my poly unit. Not saying it looks as good as day 1 but I make it work. Its all about maintenance and cutting and styling it to help combat the thinning areas etc. Doing it in my own for the last couple years including all the cutting so that also makes it easier. Learn to cut your own hair. Its super simple, plenty of tutorials from Curtis as well as barbers on TH-cam.
when it comes to sleeping i learned to wrap my hair in a silk or satin foulard its super helpful! like the hair doesnt hit directly into the pillow and the unit doesnt move
Great videos Curtis, for someone considering their first hair system these are so informative when deciding what to do. I am 47 and considering my first hair system, there’s so much to consider and your a great help with this, thank you
Can you do a video about hair systems damaging your scalp and existing hair follicles? For people who want to wear a system temporarily but still opting for a hair transplant in the future
Your natural hair will die off and never come back. Your scalp may experience dryness, redness and will never look the same. I know, been wearing a hair system for 14 years.
Ive had really good results with a blue shampoo and conditioner set. It works wonders on the color if used every 2-3 days and makes the hair feel so so so soft. I can usually get up to 3.5 months with one unit thanks to the blue shampoo set.
If you really want to extend the life of your system NEVER shower without a shower cap on. Filter or not, a shower is not good on a system. Keep a spray bottle of pure distilled water (you can add some leave in products to the water if you choose, I use It’s a 10 Leave in) shower with the cap on and wet your hair with the spray bottle only. This alone can add months to your system. Along with this never shampoo or condition in a shower it’s horrible on the hair. I wouldn’t shampoo more than once a week. Personally I only shampoo by filling the sink with pure water, squirt some high quality shampoo in, mix it around and then run the system through the water a few times. That’s all you need. The conditioner I put directly on the unit and then rinse out in the sink with only pure water again. When you hear about people’s units lasting a year or more, this is a big part of how. That and avoiding styling products. Good leave in conditioning products or actual conditioner to style only. 99 percent of styling products will slowly or quickly destroy your hair so it’s best to avoid.
Absolutely cannot wait to order a system from you. Just got one at a salon and feels like it was a waste of money for the salon price! Are the start kits in stock if I ordered now? Also smart idea to pre-purchase a system now or wait until they’re back in stock?
John, im sorry to hear that. Id love to earn your business!! Tough to say on the purchase. The wait completely sucks right now but at least you know its coming. We do not have a date to when we will be fully stocked again. Here to help!
One thing I have done with this current system that I didn't do with the first one is do a light spraying of 30 SPF sunscreen over the hair when going out in bright sun. This unit has lasted me 6 months and the colour is only starting to fade now (the reddish colour) but very gradually on this one. Not surd if its recommended but it's made a huge difference regarding fading.
@@HairExperience I always do the leave in conditioner first every day and then the light spray of sun screen only on very bright, sunny days. I can tell you, it's definitely prolonged the life of this system. Only slight fading going into my 6th month. I'll take it!!! Lol From time to time, I also use a little (very little) argan oil rubbed throughout the hair. It hasnt gotten dried out. Definitely using high quality Shampoo and Conditioner for colour treated hair. The combination of all the above along with a satin pillow case really seems to work.
Hey Curtis :) Great video as usual! Quick question, if you were to re install you re system often like every 2/3 days, and use a non exposed hairline style, would lace be the best base option using tape to attach, in terms of convenience/lazyness :P? Or would the constant tape attaching and removing damage the lace fairly quickly? Fellow wearers feel free to pitch in :P thanks in advance
Hey!! Honestly I wouldnt do that. It could be daily wear or extended wear. But not the 2-3 days. Thats to much work and the bonds will be so new that it will be hard to cleanup. If you did daily wear you could use some daily wear products that would make it easier. Tape on and off if done correctly is no big deal. If done wrong it will damage the unit for sure. Hope that helps!
@@HairExperience Thanks so much for taking the time to answer! So would you say that i could get away with using tape on lace and removing the tape and re installing it daily? Would the lace hold up well? Any recommendation in terms of tape for daily wear on lace? I'm sure this has been asked before, but did you ever have a client or acquaintance who wears a system on top and had a (small) hair transplant on his temples?
I’m also super curious about this and have had very little luck finding info on the subject. I know temples are one of if not the most difficult transplants to perform because of the angle and diameter of the hairs. Phil from Hair4all had it done successfully but besides him I can’t find any examples.
Amazing work, I'm getting one of your systems soon! I got a recommendation in one of the hair centres to use shampoos with SILICONE because this will protect hair and make it look good as it is originally shipped (when it is coated with the silicone). Is this true that it is good to use shampoos with silicone? Thanks for advice
Silicone is a terrible idea. It works well but it only masks the failures of the hair. Over time it dries out the hair to a failure point and the hair depends on it. This is just my opinion based on testing
@@HairExperience I’m confused by your response here Curtis. A ways back I asked why you didn’t include Lace Release in your starter kits and you responded that it’s nothing more than alcohol, info you got directly from the manufacturer so I think you need to clarify this.
Curtis the soft water you mention is not a good thing. Soft water contains high levels of salt from the brine it gets filtered through. Where does all the salt you have to keep refilling your softener go to ☹️? Water softener plumbing never should go to the kitchen for cooking or drinking for a reason. Anyways I subscribe and like your channel. Keep up the good work 😚.

"you're wearing a toupee... No that's a thing of the past" What? No it isn't. At least not as far as the rest of the world is concerned. By definition, that word is correct. And I can tell you this as someone who's been stuck having to do it for more than 30 years. I had a bad accident in college that left some scars on my head. Then, when my hair (which covered the scars) started falling out in my 20s, I let a 1990s era doctor butcher me with a poor quality transplant, thus making it even worse. So now I can't even shave my head. I'd kill for that option. Unfortunately fake hair is the less jarring of the two evils. My bare head is a Frankenstein mess. Yes, modern toupees can look pretty good, but that's still what it is. But public reaction remains just as negative as ever. When others figure it out, its horrible. Let's not lie to ourselves.
