    I'm glad you talked about adhesives, the tape that came with the starter kit seems to "bleed" glue on my head after a few days, the max I can wear it is 2 weeks because by then the tape is all gooey and messy, maybe I need to try a different brand? Same for the MHE clear bond, I basically have to redo it weekly as it "bleeds" into my forehead and gets gooey and flips up.

    • @HairExperience
      @HairExperience  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Charly, that seems about correct. 1 week out of bond is about all its good for. Depending on the client and use. If you install to much of it, it will do this early. Do a thin single coat of it (for poly based units) Hope that helps!

    Curtis you're right about confidence. I've been doing this since 1991 and I purposely let my close friends know about it. So, they can say damn I can't believe that's not your hair growing from your scalp? My best friend's wife refused to let him do it because she threatened to divorce him. I suspect because he would look so good that she my just lose him? Needless to say, he's been shaving for years. And it looks good on him. But I choose not to go that route. My main tools are one of your systems, a canvas head for sturdiness to apply adhesives without a lot of movement, pins to stick the hair system onto the canvas head, high quality shampoos & conditioners to keep the hair clean & soft, Walker one inch double sided tape by the yard and my favorite scissors for this process.
    You eventually get pretty good at applying the tape to the hair system. An inexperienced person might wonder how do you tape a semi circle in the front with straight tape? The answer is smaller pieces connected by angles as you go around the curvature. For mostly straight places on the base, you can use relatively longer pieces. This on my worst day takes 15 minutes. And that's because I am super careful not to get the tape into the hair and as close to the edge of the underside of the system on the base as I can. When it's time for removal. I lift from the front where I have no hair and gradually pull the hair system off gently trying to touch only tape in the process. The tape adds stability and keeps you from being too rough with the base of the hair system. Then I clean my scalp and the system really well. Knowing I have a second already prepped system on the canvas head. If it's late at night? You can sleep and let it air out and apply the ready alternate system on the next day. I have extremely sensitive skin so that works best for me.
    I've never successfully used the bond method with no tape in the front as Curtis can do. Although I have listened to your instructions and it makes sense to me. My problem is it would take about 15 minutes for me to get the proper tactile stickiness that I would feel confident enough that it won't come up when active. So when my fully prepped hair is ready to put on. I remove the two safety stick pins from the canvas head. Gently position it so the front part of the scalp is facing me upside down. My initial point of placement would be where one might call the "window's peak" in the scalp line approximately four of your fingers above your eyebrows. That has always worked for me. Leaning forward like a proper asian bow (say 45 degrees not 90 full degrees bow). Then gradually placing the tape more and more in place from front to back until the last part secured is along the back. Again if you start at the window's peak and work your way outward you will have the added benefit of avoiding any awkward bubbles because you're gradually applying as you slightly and carefully keep the hair system base pulled taut until you reach the back of your head. Then I go from center of my head out towards the tape area to make sure the hair system is flat and secured evenly to the curvature of my big Budha head. lol. Helpful hint for those who have prepared their hair over night. When you apply it, it will be dry and noticeably different than your regular hair. But once you feel confident that it's on securely. The easy way to naturally blend it is plain ole water sprayed until almost saturated. Towel the excess water from your shoulders. And use a blow dryer with some leave in product made for hair systems. Careful go easy on the blow drying. Just looking for the moister level to be uniform. It will evaporate under normal sunny day conditions. Your just styling your hair at this point.
    Oh and remember the hair you took off. Keep it moist until your ready to shampoo and condition it. Then you can use just plain old water to remove the tape. Even on the high quality fragile systems Curtis is able to provide. Again, I have very sensitive skin. So any trace of tape removal products causes a rash on me. So, mild cool water pressure helps me get a foothold on the tape. Once there is a gap? The cool water pressure makes it remove easily. Then you can rinse it. Put it on some kind of head (like the canvas one I use). Style it gently with your normal brush. Flip it upside down for when you're ready to apply your two sided tape. I typically put two pins to secure it and place a clean hand towel over top of it. To assist in the drying. This also helps pull the hair away so it is easier to tape when dry. Since at this point I have hair on my head. I can let this canvas sit in my closet until I am ready to apply the tape. Trust me. The tape adheres better when the underside is dry. Having two hair systems makes this process work like clockwork. That way, you always have one on and another on the on deck circle to be prepared for use.
    I realize that might be TMI for some of you? But if you have sensitive skin? This is an alternate method. I can't leave hair on for longer than 4 days due to my sensitive skin condition. I appreciate Curtis and Amanda for all their help! They are giving us the most reasonable prices I have seen. And he's right about the chain salon's with their bronze, silver, gold and platinum packages. They can get you into the thousands each year. Even if they are not only a client but also the president! lol

    I am book in with a saloon on Saturday for a consultation and to say i am nervous is an understatement. I have been using micro fibers for years but as i am getting married in September i want a good head of hair for the pictures. Curtis i have been with you since the start of your channel (through your good times and bad) and now i am taking the plunge, the saloons here in Ireland are not great at this but once i get into the swing of things i will definitely be a customer of yours. Been using hair system for 2 years and I must say that Curtis hair units are the best so far.
    I even tried some tape I bought locally, but literally melting after few days. So going back to MHE tape.
    Overtime, I have learned how to take carer of it and make it last longer like 4 months maximum. How to clean it easily, how to cut it on my own etc.

  • @seand5517
    @seand5517 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good video Curtis. You talk a lot about "know what you're getting". I think a huge issue in this industry is that this product is not "out there" enough for men to physically see, touch, or dare I say even "try before you buy" so they could feel comfortable, considering it's such a huge life change to dive into. Even when men do their research and want to possibly order one online, they have to pay hundreds of dollars and order them blind, hope the color is right, hope the density is right, etc. Have you ever thought about or considered some sort of sampling portion of the business? Whether that be putting together small locks of hair color samples to send out for a small fee, or dare I say a small 2-3 inch front partial so a customer could mess around and experiment with seeing how realistic a hairline could really be before they take the plunge on a $300 full system?

      @SPLENOROUS Thank you for your honest opinion. There are women who think men shouldn't try to change "their looks" by putting on hair on their head. I know some women that embrace going gray or losing their hair. I dont agree with it, but thats just my opinion. Thank you again. Been a single man I dont have anyone for this type of support.
