Well, that's one spot in the yard I won't have to mow for a while...
To the point, good old oven cleaner works the best. Spray liberally, I like to protect the area and cover the item. Newspaper works, so does a plastic garbage bag. Let it sit a couple hours, longer for heavily soiled items. When it's ready, don some rubber gloves (eye protection is not a bad idea either), give it a good scrubbing with a stiff nylon brush then rinse. Hot water works best. Wash again thoroughly in water and dish soap to remove any remaining cleaner. Same deal work wonders for those old fashioned burner trays on the stove top. If you use a nylon brush it won't scratch the finish when you scrub.

Try Drain cleaner on the same Item.
Draincleaner with ^^NAOH (sodium hydroxide) as active ingredient^^ is the best Carbon remover.
But drain cleaner is NOT save for Aluminum.
