when I was cleaning for Disney, we used "Bar keepers Helper" it's a powder that you apply with a damp sponge, and let set a few min, FABULOUS on stainless and copper (don't know about others though), my dad taught me to clean my bakeware with a similar oven cleaner method to yours, only we spray the item inside of a plastic bag and leave it in the sun for 30 min...SPARKLING clean... so two variations, I know work well also. Happy Cleaning!
Saw the use and got a can of ...just been too sick to give a try and just do the baking soda and vinegar and add some dish soap if needed...one if these days will try it
Found out something useful, I didn't use steel wool, I used an old plastic store card to scrape away and simply pressed hard enough to form the plastic to the profile of the pan sides. Worked a treat and very fast too !
I’m so glad to see this. I wondered why my smoke alarm went off when I was frying something and the food was not burning . Found out it was the grime on the bottom of the pan. I scrubbed it but hardly anything came off. Thanks for the solution.
I use a electric sander. the sort used for wood, wet and dry paper 600 grit. done! no chemicals. and bicarb with white vinegar cover pan with this mix wipe off job done.
Sodium bicarbonate and vinegar neutralise each other and do nothing You can't use vinegar as a degreaser because it's an acid you need an alkali like washing up liquid to decrease anything
Lol, there's two kinds of people: "I must use the gentle non-scratch sponge on my fragile stainless steel pan." "I'm using an electric sander, works great." (personally I'd fall on the electric sander side of the spectrum, except I sadly don't have an electric sander)
I know you can buy a gel oven cleaner - the only difference is that it's a gel and not a spray - I would rather use a gel than a spray because with a spray, it becomes airborne which is really dangerous. Selleys make a blue gel oven cleaner which I use on the bottom of the pots and pans. Works a treat. I am glad to see that you know the secret. So many people have no idea
This is the best method I ever used to get rid of the gunk on my carbon steel wok and it really makes senses too. Thank you so much! Before I tried your method I was disappointed by Easy Off I thought it was EasyUseless. Now I like it again👍
This is crazy! I found a commercial grade product someone was throwing away, heavily soiled with old stuff. Expensive product now I can save & use. Thank you!!! Also I'm a guy that has become more (clean aware) during the process of taking care of my parents before their demise. Just Subscribed!!!
I let whatever I need cleaned sit in a sink of boiling hot water and just chuck a dishwasher tablet in with it. Works on a variety of items and stains types, including really stubborn stains such as those left by turmeric, which very few cleaning products can remove. I even use a dishwasher tablet and water to clean up my white shoe soles, they are surprisingly versatile and a lot of people would already have them in their home so no need to go out and buy anything new.
I'm going to try it as a laundry pre-soak. Someone told me to coat my skin with it to clear up a condition I had. It stained my clothing and I almost threw them away. Thanks for the tip!

I use the dishwasher tablet method too , I also use it for the shower door just dissolve one really well and put it in a spray bottle , clean with a soft dry cloth and dry off with a dry micro cloth , you can do this with the oven door as well .
Adding a tip from Dental Hygiene, don't use steel wool until after you scrape with a sharp edge. You can remove lots of grime before touching the surface of the pan.
Good tip around cleaning pans, using the wrap to increase dwell time is a good idea.. one world of caution, this may pit some metals and contact times over 10 minutes is not recommended for any materials other than high grade stainless steel or ceramic. Never do this on aluminum or copper bottom pans.
I've found that a second spray of oven cleaner on the outside of the pan usually removes any remaining after the first clean. Also, it's important to lay the pan flat on a surface during the entire spraying operation, rather than holding it in your hand as appears in part of this video, to prevent any of the spray from straying onto the top side cooking surface.
This video is fascinating. I learned how to take care of wounds and at the same time, I learned how to clean a burned pan. Thanks for sharing with us your important knowledge. I will apply this useful information in my everyday life and I will share this video with others.
thank YOU , easy off worked so well was deep frying donuts with cornola in stainless steel, upper top of pan got thick coating of grease, used easy off , put in bag for 45 minutes, cleaned in sink and is like new.
i have been using this amazing product for over 2 decades i got the idea from my car engine cleaner spray; i'm using EASY OFF fume free a bit less worries than the regular formula...great video & introduction to EASY OFF!
I used Easy Off on my pan bottoms before ever discovering this video and it seemed to eat away at the finish. I have Calfalon pans, just for reference purposes. When the pans were new, the bottoms were rather shiny. Ten years of use have lent to a buildup of grease and the other normal crud. I thought, "hey, Easy Off works great for my oven and stove!". Well, it removed *some* of the grims but when I saw the result of the filmy finish (and that's after I also scrubbed it with a regular sponge and dish soap), I wasn't happy. I'm not suggesting it didn't work for you, I just thought I'd share my experience so others aren't surprised if it happens to them.
That system really works. My main stainless steel pan, had become quite 'varnished' on the bottom from various grease drips running underneath and burning on. I sprayed Easy-Off and wrapped up for overnight, and the next day, I placed it in my sink of hot soapy water. The burned on 'varnish' floated right off without being touched at all. That eyesore that resisted even industrial Scotch Bright scrubbing pads, was finally gone! Thanks.
I'm so excited to try this!!! My granny recently passed and I have some of her old pots and pans. I'm not kidding when I say every single one of them looks like the before pans in your video. I don't ever expect them to look brand new but would love to get the burnt bottom looking less burnt.
Most excellent pan video. I have never seen pans in that bad of shape and I clean my pans every 20 years. 🤣 Thanks 😎 Compare the stove food grease to artery buildup plaque.
I guess you have never purchased at a yard sale, or garage sale or flea market, a very used, very old cast iron pan. I had one that must have had in parts, 1/2 inch burned on carbon - who knows what. Oven cleaner cleaned it all off. This was all on the outside of the cast iron. The insides looked fine.
thanks for the information, I am definately going to use it, I am just wondering if its safe to use on the inside of the pan. We have some similar around the edges at the top. Thanks again.
You can also spray your pan as above and put it in an airtight plastic bag and set it outside overnight for even better results. I don this with baking sheets all the time.
Vinegar also works as a soak or wetting agent(wet your item with it) and you can also take advantage of its germ killing effects, as well. The acidity of the vinegar works wonderfully as an abrasive/abrasive aid with the dishwashing liquid and your cleaning tools. Then, you can quickly rinse in commercial alkaline water to neutralize the acid once you are finished. Or you could also use baking soda and water instead, but BS has a tendency to leave a powdery residue that alkaline water will not. This step will kjII the acid! As a matter of fact, you can use vinegar as a hand sanitizer with normal soap, if you also have some baking soda and water to neutralize the acid. Plus, use baking soda/alkaline rinse before or after eating vinegar/acidic foods to save your teeth. But, this dish washing system will work on problem dishes as well, except you do not soak on general dishes as long.
None of these Vinegar/Baking Soda tricks have ever really worked for me. Yet you see them recommended everywhere. I think it's because those that worked weren't really heavy long time baked on grease.
@@larsord9139 You can soak them in regular water, vinegar, and dish soap! I have done this before with decent success. But, you have to remember to use alkaline water(BS has the same effect, but I doubt you want a dust film on your dishes) afterwards...
