My experience going gluten free for the last several weeks has been very positive. Better mood, more energy, clearer thinking, dandruff almost gone, athletes foot nearly gone, less psoriasis and eczema, skin looking better overall, slimming down. Did this at the same time that I drastically cut my sugar intake and removed dairy from my diet, so I don't know how much credit to give gluten free, but I do believe it has helped. Thanks for the video, Dr. Hyman!
Thank you for this INCREDIBLE explanation of gluten free eating Dr Hyman! I'm a celiac and so often when talking with others I hear "oh gluten free options are available everywhere!". And they simply don't understand that gluten free cookies are still cookies! Well said!
Thank you Dr Hyman. I have been eating gluten free for about 6 months. I no longer suffer with heartburn which I have had for many years, and therefore no longer take any medication for it, best thing I ever did.
hi Dr Hyman, Im a holistic health coach. Im so grateful for physicians who stand for health. Ive been a nurse for over 10 yrs and I really embraced Holistic health and nutrition because I just couldnt take big pharma any longer. I wanted to see people getting better, healthier and happier. I was discouraged by what I witnessed as physicians pushed more meds and there was not a focus on nutrition, health, wellness.....!!! Thank you for all you do😙
@@stn7172 ...funny how most of the previous years flu stat deaths disappeared & were replaced by covid last year & this year...total scam that needs to be delt with.
Yes!!! I have celiac disease and people often tell me, "oh, being a celiac nowadays is easy because you now have gluten free aisles at the grocery store!" I cringe when I hear these comments because I know that 99% of the products are horrific for my health. I used to simply look at ingredients list and say that if it had 3 or less ingredients in the processed gluten free and organic food that I was ok to ingest it. That's how I justified drinking Zevia cola and Siete grain free tortilla chips. I ate them all of the time because I felt like I had been so deprived from eating fun foods. However, my skin was horrific, I felt absolutely depressed and anxiety-ridden. Those things did not have any nutritional value in them. They didn't serve my body which had already been inflamed for so long. I'm sure eating them every once in a while isn't going to kill you, but why would you eat something that will make you feel worse? I also found a non-gmo bakery that actually has an AMAZING tasting coconut cookies and pumpkin pie that is grainless, sugar free, dairy free and gluten free. I thought it was too good to be true! And I ate them every weekend to treat myself after a long week at work. They were definitely delicious but again, zero nutritional value. I simply used the "grainless, gluten free, non gmo, non dairy, and sugar free" label to justify eating them. Although there were no artificial sweeteners or processed sugar in them, they had other things "natural" to sweeten them with like erythritol and stevia. My stomach always felt a little off after eating them. I didn't get sick. I was able to digest them but I knew that my microbiome had been affected. Dr. Hyman is 100% correct. Stay away from gluten-free food aisle and eat whole foods. It's hard. I'm not going to lie. Especially during the holidays and on special occasions like birthday parties but you aren't going to heal if you give into the food industry's lies.
I have really enjoyed going Gluten free, soy free, sugar free & dairy free. I have Hypothyroidism & watched you in the Thyroid Secret. I feel much better, have lost around 10 lbs., stopped seeing my western doc and am now seeing a naturopath (who's into the whole body vs. just my symptoms). What a difference. Thanks for the tips on the EWG's site. I do find it hard to buy natural foods because of the craze, it's not easy to find in my area & the prices aren't exactly small. I'll be supporting the community of farmers next. Thanks!
Thank you for this. I have gluten intolerance and was told to go gluten free. I now also have internal candida from the sugar additions. Working full time pushed me to purchase too much off the shelf products. Now I do as much from scratch and plan ahead more than I ever did as you can find hardly anything healthy out or on the shelves, including restaurants and pub food. Time for the industry to change. They are making us sick. Palm oil makes me sick alongside all the geo additives . I have learned so much from you.
I could listen to your videos all day long! They are so educational and easy to follow. I started going gluten free when I started with the IIN program. And soon realized that gluten free means whole foods only, no industrial labeld gluten-free products. It took me weeks to adjust to these changes. Sometimes I have products that contain gluten but very rarely as an exception and it works fine. I barely eat any industrial food anymore. I really notice the difference now that I have gotten to know both sides.
I had un diagnosed coeliac disease for 33 years, I was constantly sick, flu that lasted for a month, my gums bled, I was under weight and malnutritioned, and suffering. I got diagnosed with Coeliac disease I went on a gluten free diet and my whole life change
Funny how my experience has been totally different I thought gluten was the cause of my seasonal allergies, so I tried going gluten free and dairy free but allergies were just as bad or worst so I decided instead to focus on my gut health and digestive system health, by eating probiotic foods, prebiotic foods and enzymes like papaya and pineapple, I also bought the Sonic 2.0 water flosser and toothbrush and used it daily once in the morning and before going to bed, my gums stopped bleeding and my teeth feel healthier, my allergies went away it was a miracle and I found out I'm not gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant, my problem was unhealthy gut and digestive system and of course I cut down significantly on sugar and enriched flours, I still eat bread like the whole grain Dave's killer bread loaded with prebiotic fiber I drink a glass of whole milk I'm feeling great feel so much healthier, I knew something was not right when people demonize wheat and dairy, God knows best he made my body both dairy and wheat are healthy and so are eggs lol. The problem is that this foods are processed differently now and are not healthy like back in the old days, that's why we have to read the labels and only get the organic brands that only contain healthy ingredients.
gluten is often replaced with potato starch, which raise your sugar higher. if you give up one grain( ie wheat) your intestines will sensitize to other grains ( ie brown rice, quinoa ).
I'm a woman,78,next month and I went gluten-free about 3-1/2 yrs ago now.Really knowing from a back test,48yrs ago-I was allergic to wheat&corn. I took this test trying to find what I was allergic to for Hay Fever.(Funny thing-now that I'm gluten-free ,3yrs. No hay fever) Back then the Dr. just told me to watch it..no big deal,I guess. So after years of wheat toast(Ads telling people to eat wheat bread and I love my toast sooo 2 at breakfast and maybe a sandwich for lunch and maybe a bun at dinner...finally at about 68 my gut says that's enough and I was sick a lot...probable 7-8yrs. trying to find the answer.Till when I decided to watch Dr.Tom O'Bryan's--Gluten Summit-Which is where I believe ,I listen to you as one of the speakers. This was my answer!!! And I've been gluten-free every since. Thank you&Dr.Tom and many wonderful speakers, I am very healthy, lost 36lbs. the 1st 8months...and kept it off. Thank you for this great information. I shall be watching out more closely with this new info. Thanks again for all you do --for FREE for us!!!
Reta Reames I have bad allergies, and my stomach always seems messed up. But I noticed the 4 days I tried low carb. My stomach was better, most headaches was gone, My sinusitis was better. Then I ate gluten again for 2 days. I was so sick. I'm not on low carb. But I am back to doing gluten free, and a balance diet. I feel so much better. Congrats on your weight loss. So far 1 pound for me. lol.
If it doesn't rot or sprout, throw it out! Thankfully I never got into processed products. All my food comes from the outside of the supermarket. What you eat is really the only thing you have total control of in this world. It has to be your number one priority. It has to come before everything else.
Thanks for the info! A couple years ago Drew from Fit2fat2fit showed us medically what happened to his body when he consumed packaged gluten free foods. It was very eye opening.
Hi Mark, I love your channel. I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos. When I realised my doctor just wanted to write a prescription and get me out of her office; I left her practice , found a nutritionist, and started actively working to bring my thyroid antibodies down on my own. I am eating gluten-free/whole foods with the exception of 1 coffee/day and some occasional sugar-free peanut butter. I eat almost no sugar and dairy. I have been doing this for 6 weeks. I have lost 9 kilograms. I have my energy back. I found a new doctor and he seems to be identical to the first one. Almost a waste of time changing doctors. This one told me that selenium does absolutely nothing and that there is no need to take vitamin D (despite my blood tests showing deficiency....) My thyroid medicine is levothyroxine and I am only on a 50mg dose.
I'm vegan and gluten free but I don't eat any junk. Only nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, oats, quinoa, brown rice, beans, and legumes. Also cook everything with coconut oil. The only foods I eat that are processed are larabars/simple squares and popcorn from a healthy brand.
The biggest thing I learned about having to eat glutenfree, is to just cook everything from scratch. Until I had to start reading ingredients in food in the shops, I didn't know how much junk there is in food. I also can't eat soja, tomatoes, potatoes, cacao, peper . I went on AIP diet to find out and now I feel so much better.
I was diagnosed with Celiac 9 years ago, and my early on mistake was try to replace my gluten habits with none gluten counter parts, but in the end it was still making me feel shitty. I am now more careful with what I eat. Low carb whole foods, a lot of veggies, grass fed meats, fish, nuts and coconut/olive oils.
But in Indian food curries we prefer using mustard oil especially for meat curries because of it's certain taste and pungency, vegetable oil for other veggie curries. Can't use coconut oil and Olive oil for certain curries ....the taste will be different. Plus olive oil is expensive.
If you have to shop at a grocery store go to the produce aisle, the meat aisle and the spice rack then leave the store. Basically don't buy anything with more then one ingredient in it.
I found a wonderful recipe with almond flour arrowroot flour and avocado makes the best burrito shells and there’s another one with tapioca flour almond flour and coconut milk and these are all good to make yourself and very easy to make flatbread you are so right there’s so many ways to do it the Right Way, God bless you thank you for sharing🥰
I recently have gone gluten free and dairy free to try and naturally correct my rosacea. I’ve tried the gluten free muffins and an ice cream sandwich. I felt absolutely awful after eating them! Instant headache and nausea. I’ve been eating just Whole Foods and no grains for a few days now. I’ve lost 2 lbs, my bloating is gone, and I don’t feel fatigued like I normally do when eating grains.
I am a old man who used to eat a Lot of sugar, went g-f 5 years ago, DOES WHAT YOU SAY, [ie Cook ....rice every day...fruit and veg ...difficult w/o a fridge and in bulgaria] and much happier since i started ....thnx for vid
Very good advice about gluten-free products - they have made me sick loads of times. Found 'dates bars' can be full of bacteria because no preservative and I get emergency trip to toilet after a couple of hours followed by flu-like symptons for many more hours.
Steven Brown I do have the same me and my Dad only and we rush to the toilet the Doctor back home in Iraq said you have allergies every time you eat raw Dates. probably you have allergies and I am cooking the Dates it never hurts after baking or roasting on the stove I wish you try it cooked it is very good food for the whole body l am vegan and gluten free but I do eat honey and fish oil supplements
What about gluten-free from the health food sections that don't use bad ingredients or bad oils? I read labels like a hawk and make sure the sugar content is very low or zero! What about baking our own cookies with gluten free flour by Bob's Red Mill and stevia or raw honey which has important healing enzymes. I've gone gluten-free, dairy free and sugar free and I've finally lost weight along with intermittent fasting and my stomach is flatter...working on killing those bugs that led to my MS ..thankfully, I have a mild form and only use a cane. It was in remission for over 20 years and only got a bit worst in my late 60s. I eat only organic for the most part and focus on fresh produce, fish, organic eggs, nuts, healthy fats like olive oil, coconut oil and avocadoes and a small amount of fruit and don't drink sodas anymore, only water and herbal teas. Thanks for sharing important tips~
Amazing! Why aren't more people, doctors especially, talking about this? Especially the mind-body connection, like that oils can lead to mental illness, even homicide. Thank you for speaking out!
Because doctors are trained by schools that teach drug therapy. They'd actually have to do their own research to learn any other way, but since they are too narcissistic, they think they already know "everything". One of my obese clients is a Princeton lawyer, and her husband a doctor in Princeton too. So completely clueless about what's healthy to eat.
Hannah Wilder ... doctors in America are not taught anything about the natural all Americans need to know that if a medical doctor it speaks about the natural it doesn't mean that they're talented in the field natural or natural supplements or natural healing some of them obviously go outside of their field and learn about the natural but the way this particular man is explaining it is not helpful to the average person especially in the first 3 minutes of the video he's not getting to the point and he's playing a game I don't think that's smart with the American people because most people are not going understand his little process and they're going to think that all gluten free products are bad especially if they only watch the first three minutes
Qualifying as a doctor long, complex, expense and extremely competitive. And once qualified doctors spend their initial years paying of the debt and that means career focus. Narcissistic has nothing to do with this. Some doctors are good and some are bad.
This issue of open vs. closed mindedness could better referred to as busy-person's syndrome. If you are a busy person, inundated by people in need, your unconscious mind tends to convince itself (and your conscious mind) to protect what you have as well as shield you from new information or counter beliefs. If you are this person, what do you have? You have limited time. With limited time, it's easy to defer to the knowledge provided by the agencies who control your profession. It's also a mindset and practice that helps when you face liability issues. I know a physician who once claimed to read 4 studies per day. I asked him, "Is that getting you where you want to be?" "Not really," he responded. "What do you do for your knowledge?" I told him that I spend time each day, balancing mind, body, and spirit. I shared that I read a ton, watch the latest health videos from sources that seem well-intentioned, and I think a lot. I also test my assertions in friendly conversation and heated debate. I also publish my observations in writing and in video. See my TH-cam channel. The stance I have adopted falls under the heading of mindfulness and being a fair intellectual. I encourage you all to spend time in the pursuit of mastering mindfulness and self. Sifu Slim, author, speaker, coach SifuSlim.com
I have celiac. Gluten-free is the way to be. Read your labels. I gained a lot of weight after switching to gluten-free. My intestines were able to heal and absorb nutrients. I eat extremely healthy. I cook. My doctor says the weight will stabilize, and I'll never go back to being so skinny, but it's for a very good reason.
We need to stay away from too much processed foods. My formula now for eating is a small portion of protein with 2 to 3 portions of vegetables. A little bit of fruit for dessert if I’m craving something sweet. I don’t avoid proceed foods completely but I try to keep it to a minimum. I don’t bring junk into my house.
A thousand of videos watched, and just as much research and studies regarding nutrition read, with thousands of hours invested into it, and right here, in this 10 minutes long video, the MAIN idea of almost all that i've learned so far is represented almost to its entirety.
anizares1 I have celiacs too but I stay away from gluten free grain products. You can keep a good gluten free diet without gluten free products. Gluten free products are full of sugars.
lavender wave I did that for 2 months. My stomach said enough. It was gluten for me. Plant Based isn't for everyone. Now that I am doing gluten free. I am so much better.
Jamie Crisp did you do whole food plant based? Everyone who says they went plant based and their gut couldn't handle it usually did it wrong. Not saying you did, but when I first went plant based I was eating like a pure lunatic, the is a smart and healthy way to go vegan which is where I'm at now, and the benefits are huge. I cured my constipation that would result in painful and bloody hemorrhoids. My mother in law completely cured her diabetes. I'd say revise and try again. Look into Dr. Gregor's daily dozen foods you should incorporate into your daily diet and also read How not to die by him too. Changed my life. Good luck. Oh and you can do gluten free plant based too
thank you for this good video! can you please talk more or lead me to more knowledge about the connection between gluten and autoimmune diseases ? thanks in advance!
I had so much inflammation before going gluten free, it's not something I wanted to do. But since going gluten free it has cut my inflammation drastically. I'm not nervous after I eat . My stomach is not like a rock. No my digestive issues are not completely solved. But at least I feel better than before.
Hi Dr. Hyman. I know you shun flour as a healthy part of a diet, and I am mostly on board, with several exceptions. On a separate note, Question about a specific bread found in the freezer: "Ezeekial Live Sprouted Bread", no flour, I think its completely seed based, whole grain, but... If I'm going to be skeptical about every non-homemade product, I guess I need to call it into question too. It was here long before the gluten free craze began and I don't think their marketing package has even changed. However, What truth that is most relevant to my health does their packaging tell me and is it a food worth incorporating into my diet? Grateful for a professional perspective! Jessica Morgan MD
I ate one of the Ezeekial sprouted bread and I felt so sick. I was trying to figure out why. When I went back to check it was made with sprouted soy beans. I can eat whole soybeans but not the soy milk and I guess not in high concentrations in bread form. When my daughter was a baby I tried supplementing my breastfeeding with soy formula after starting her on milk based formula. She completely clogged up on the soy formula.
When I asked the dietitian what can I eat at a restaurant she said I had just two choices..poor choices and damn poor choices it took me two years to make the connection with factory food I was buying takeout from the grocery store and it was damn poor stuff. Since I eliminated all processed foods except fora few best choices that I have made ie grass fed organic butter and organic coconut oil I have beaten my sugar addiction improved my health lost over fifty pounds and like a reformed smoker who needs to share I like to sing the praises of intermittent fasting and real food!👍👍👍🖖🖖🖖🙋🏼♀️💗
I was told that I had siliac. I followed the steps told me my doctor and I still felt horrible and it was very expensive. I still had bloated stomach and I had ear regular body functions. I'm so happy that I saw this article. I was afraid I was going to get cancer. That scared me.
Have your thyroid and hormones tested. There isn't one simple reason for bloating. Also make sure you have a colonoscopy and an upper Gi scope. My scope in 2013 was clear and this year the doctor found a 2mm precancerous polyp, 1mm hernia and mild stomach lining issues plus some brown spots on my colon from natural laxative use. Polyps can cause digestive issues even if they are benign.
Dr you are absolutely right!I havebeen gluten free for a year and half.Didnot feel better.Stop buying gluten free junk and went grain free also.Feel better but now I have stomach problems.I donot know what else todo. But I do feel better.Pail level is reall y down but my stomach doesnot like me.Maybe I take too many supplements .
Wheat, dairy, AND processed is a huge key. Replacing the bad foods with the right BALANCE of whole foods minimally processed is also key. Also finding JOY in healthy home cooking AND eating. Otherwise wheat, dairy, and refined foods will sneak back in. Lean chicken, fish, whole grain rices, whole oats, fruits, greens, and a lot of different spices helped me kick the wheat. Vegan alternative dairy, almond milk, and so much of what is found in health food stores is just GARBAGE. I saw a very overweight lady in a health food store loading a cart full of gluten free cookies, and other junk. So sad! If it is processed and packaged, avoid it. Stick to refrigerated sections where there are fresh fruits, veggies, and lean meats. Avoid the middle areas of the stores except for bulk unrefined products. Eat your fruits, juice your raw dark greens, eat cooked veggies with lean meat and whole minimally processed carbs. Learn how to upgrade food choices in any situation! If you must eat out then this is very important. No need to make a scene. Order a salad with olive oil and vinegar topped with chicken breast. Baked potato hold the butter and sour cream. Top sirloin instead of ribeye. Brown instead of white rice. Water with lemon/lime instead of soda. Oatmeal instead of wheat. Fresh is best. Whole not refined. Sliced and diced not powdered. Blood sugar will be in check and your type 2 diabetes will fade away.
Doing gluten free diet means you can not eat product made from wheat (mostly). And you don't suppose to eat them not just because it contain gluten but also because flour is so fine mill these days that it is a simple carb source too. and it is bad for you because it make you feel hungry so fast and it is so good in the mouth too. Eat gluten free food that is not substitute of these flour products. e.g. you eat rice, brown rice, red rice, black rice. eat beans, eat veggies and all that thing. That's what it means to do gluten free diet.
I always felt soooo bad after eating rice-based gluten-free options. They'd either make me really sleepy or my heart would feel like it was going to pound out of my chest.
As a Type 1 diabetics gluten free was a disaster. BGs went through the roof. If you want bread once in a while go to a good bakery, no off the shelf bread. I feel that is garbage.
Gluten free for me was cutting out gluten, not replacing it with worse things with the GF label on it. Made my life better. I miss bread and tortillas so much
After a retarded allergy type test, I recently had to switch to gluten free and candida diet. I started to eat brown rice for carb and rice crackers for snacks instead of cookies and I feel worse and my body feel heavier than before and I put weight. My diet was healthy before but since eating a lot of brown rice , my body feels tired from the sugar from the rice. So I gave up and started eating bread or anything bad with a rule I make. And relaxed all the rules and make everything easier and sustainable. I can eat one thin sandwich slice or two every day. I can eat anything my body wants. But when I feel sick even a little, I try to stop. I buy seasonal vegetables and eat in variety. I am seeing how it goes
Thank you doctor for an excellent revelation on the myth of gluten free food. I was diagnosed with celiac disease 2 years ago and had no choice but to go on a gluten free regime. From my experience, gluten free food is expensive, tastes like styrofoam, and has way too much sugar/fat content to keep the food from falling apart. Since starting the diet, I weigh more than I ever have in my life even though the amount of food I eat has not changed and I still exercise in the same manner. I actually feel weaker and worse than I did prior to my celiac disease diagnosis. If you don't have a health issue like I do, I always advise people to avoid a gluten free diet.
What are you eating? I have had to go gluten free recently but i find that i can still eat really tasty and also healthy food. The key is preparing it yourself rather than buying certain gluten free meals or products
I never thought I'd try to cut down or out wheat but my digestive issues have gone on so long I'm grasping at straws at this point. It started after I finished menopause and after I had my gall bladder out. The tricky part is still eating enough whole grains to keep healthy and like he said finding healthy gluten free pre made products. Right now I'm at eating oatmeal, oat flour and cornmeal. I won't give up grains completely because they do make me feel good mentally. The gluten free bread I bought today has more sugar than I would eat normally so I won't buy it again. I'll give it a couple weeks and if I feel worse instead of better I'll go back on wheat.
I started a Fodmap diet in november because I have IBS-D and I started to feel much better right away.now I am on a low fodmap diet and I try to add as many products that I couldn't eat before as I can.the thing is some products that contain gluten are bad for me and I still can't eat them. I lost weight since with this condition and I would like to know if not eating gluten would cause weight loss?
in india gulten product like wheat is consimed like roti (chappati) and then ghee ( clarified butter) or oil is applied now i understood indian are very smart as applying clarified butter or oil to wheat doesn't allow it to stick to gut :)
I have been noticing this self-serving "GLUTEN-FREE" labelling being slapped on so many things that make me want to talk to these products in the grocery store aisles to say, "Well, yeah, but you are still junk by all that sugar/soy/canola oil/bad sodium, etc." And I have also been noticing the similar deceptive practice of sticking "GLUTEN-FREE" on other products that make me want to shout, "Well, no kiddin'! Of course you are not the type of product that has gluten in it!" And can more understand if it is a matter of, say, "This product is gluten-free but is processed in a facility where other are processed with gluten," just so long as they are not neglecting to keep the gluten-free product uncontaminated by gluten, or, for that matter, from other allergens that are not even ingredients on the labelling of the gluten-free product. Just so much deception in these last days!
Hi, @@wrenfan. Yeah, the manufacturers, & at times the marketers with their additional labelling, are just trying to attract more buyers to their products, primarily those inclined to "gluten free." I must admit, sometimes, especially since there are so many different choices out there on shelves at times, such labeling of even those naturally gluten-free products with "gluten-free" labeling can be helpful, insofar as it is not known to some people what is gluten-free from what is not. Thanks for your response. 👍🏼
might not be good for you to go gluten free. I won't give up dairy because I feel really bad going a couple days without just when I haven't made it to the store.
I don’t understand people who say they are allergic to gluten yet they were eating gluten foods their whole childhood and didn’t start being “allergic” until it became a trend.
+what can i do to avoid wheat products (gluten) i am not able to digest wheat. I ha ve to rely on rice and allied grains. Lab test have proven me otherwise.but i just cannot take wheat or make anything with wheat.
what's your opinion on rice / oat and almond milk? i don't eat gluten or dairy or meat. I eat most veg, nuts, seeds, fruit, oats and wholegrain rice. I don't feel like my digestion has improved a lot I've been doing this for a few months should i wait longer for my body to cleanse ?
Rebecca amy ..... if you want your digestion to clear up quickly take a quality digestive Aid and a probiotic that is non dairy and non soy if you want quick fast results make sure to never buy any of your supplements and any typical grocery store and never at a drugstore only at places like Wholefoods or sprouts depending on what city and state you live in// I work in the field of natural healing and that is why I am giving you an answer to the question that you posted
You are right. Eat food that is not in a box with a nutrition lable. Buy your meat from a butcher and your local veg shop or even better grow your own.
Not all sugars are created equal and context is everything. I agree with most of this video, but the fact that all sugars are so carelessly lumped together is borderline misinformation. Take a white potato. Good source of protein (insulogenic) and as a starch is rapidly metabolized into straight glucose. If you're worried about your glycemic load, avoid the grains and starches. Fruit on the other hand is loaded with fructose and often potassium, both decease the insulin load on your body. Even pure table sugar (sucrose) has a lower glycemic index than a baked white potato- look it up. "Sugar" isn't "bad". In fact it's your body's preferred energy source- especially your brain, liver, among others. Spend 20 minutes researching oxidative phosphorylation and the Randall's cycle. It'll become pretty apparent sugar isn't the culprit. It's when your diet is devoid of critical nutrients like- for example- the B vitamins, that issues really begin to manifest. The problem is everyone is looking for a magic bullet- that one thing to avoid or that one supplement to buy in bulk. It's just not that easy. Eat organic foods that satisfy you. Respond to your body's cravings in a controlled way. Don't outsource your health and let yourself get swindled into demonizing foods our ancestors thrived on because of some weak epidemiological studies that don't (and can't) control for the vast complexity and variety between individuals
Nick B sufar is body's preferred source of energy? Really? Gosh where did you do your research. Have you ever heard of gluconeogenesis? Our liver can easily produce glucose for the brain if it's needed. The only group you could easily eliminate from your diet are sugars. Please do not confuse people.
Kamil Osięglewski yes, it is. In the form of fruit. Fruit is one of the best foods for your body loaded with fiber and nutrients. Research is proving this.
Well I have celiac sl is either gluten free or horrific rashes and digestive issues. I never have had a weight issues i am 5'8 135 23" waist! Yet I eat about 2300 a day its mal absorption and metabolism that play a huge role on your weight
I eat "gluten free", but also, I eat organic. I have bee eating a lot of organic salads and more raw vegetables. I try to avoid rice, because it is more likely to be loaded with arsenic. Even organic whole grain rice is high in arsenic. Rancid oils can be a real problem. Eat whole food. I agree.
I like pasta made from rice flour - they even have some made from organic corn , black beans & chickpeas - there are also wraps for sandwich’s made from coconut flour you can buy or make. Lots of cool recipes are on the web for alternatives.
And it taste terrible. I'm eating gluten free biscuits I bought at the store by an accident. Decided to look it up to see what the hell I'm eating and why.
So essentially just avoid the processed and gluten free advertised food and just focus on eating whole foods and cooking more. And of course cutting sugar down as well which is what I’ve been doing. Feeling great so far.
Hyman!
Same here!!
Same here! Gluten-Free and dairy-free and drastically cut sugar intake..... got the idea from mshope.com/
Ditto
Same here
Thanks for sharing your positive experience......
Thank you for this INCREDIBLE explanation of gluten free eating Dr Hyman! I'm a celiac and so often when talking with others I hear "oh gluten free options are available everywhere!". And they simply don't understand that gluten free cookies are still cookies! Well said!
Depends what kind of cookies too. Some cookies are sugar bombs before you know you finished a dozen.
Thank you Dr Hyman. I have been eating gluten free for about 6 months. I no longer suffer with heartburn which I have had for many years, and therefore no longer take any medication for it, best thing I ever did.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. Hope you’re feeling better, healthier and thriving. 🙏🏾
Thanks!
Brilliant lesson. Thank you Dr Hyman.
Can you eat fruit?
@@tomomasta3254 Yes but only certain fruits, for example I don’t have any stone fruits
gluten is often replaced with potato starch, which raise your sugar higher.
if you give up one grain( ie wheat) your intestines will sensitize to other grains ( ie brown rice, quinoa ).
So far 1 pound for me. lol.
Reta, that is awesome! It is never too late. 🍽🥑💪
Not sure why you are thanking him , he's against gluten free diet.
If it doesn't rot or sprout, throw it out! Thankfully I never got into processed products. All my food comes from the outside of the supermarket. What you eat is really the only thing you have total control of in this world. It has to be your number one priority. It has to come before everything else.
I'm gluten sensitive and whenever I try to eat anything wheat derived , I spend 15 times or more in the toilet the other day
Thanks for the info!
Preservatives, pollution, and pesticides are killing us.
I went on AIP diet to find out and now I feel so much better.
smartest most well spoken video i have seen on this subject matter.
Doctor Hyman offers the most sensible advice and I turn to him when there are two or more divergent views.
Get avocado oil then. If its expensive then switch stores or go to a bulk store like costco or Sam's club.
I believe almond flour and arrowroot flour is really good flowers to bake with their gluten-free and I think they’re wonderful they help out a lot
Very good advice about gluten-free products - they have made me sick loads of times.
Found 'dates bars' can be full of bacteria because no preservative and I get emergency trip to toilet after a couple of hours followed by flu-like symptons for many more hours.
Steven Brown
I do have the same me and my Dad only and we rush to the toilet the Doctor back home in Iraq said you have allergies every time you eat raw Dates. probably you have allergies and I am cooking the Dates it never hurts after baking or roasting on the stove
I wish you try it cooked it is very good food for the whole body l am vegan and gluten free but I do eat honey and fish oil supplements
I asked him, "Is that getting you where you want to be?"
"Not really," he responded. "What do you do for your knowledge?"
I told him that I spend time each day, balancing mind, body, and spirit.

Can't make bread at home with whole grains! Need to use flour. What flour can we use if we can't use healthier flours like brown rice flour, etc.
HotChocolateDivaaah hi i agree with you. what fours can we use. if you get any information please contact me at catteman424@gmail.com
Teff is delicious and healthy, buckwheat and oats also pair really nicely with it in a sourdough
I don't have celiac disease... But I am allergic to Roundup...
Sorry, gotta go juice now.
A thousand of videos watched, and just as much research and studies regarding nutrition read, with thousands of hours invested into it, and right here, in this 10 minutes long video, the MAIN idea of almost all that i've learned so far is represented almost to its entirety.
I'm a Celiac as well so don't have much of an alternative. He's lucky he has a choice unlike the rest of us .
anizares1 I have celiacs too but I stay away from gluten free grain products. You can keep a good gluten free diet without gluten free products. Gluten free products are full of sugars.
Go plant based. Your body is telling you it needs that.
lavender wave I did that for 2 months.
Good luck. Oh and you can do gluten free plant based too
straight boss tellin it how it is, THANK YOU
What about almond flour? coconut flour? chickpea flour?
Rarely do gluten free products just have these ingredients.
I don't like chick pea pasta. Too gummy
thank you for this good video! can you please talk more or lead me to more knowledge about the connection between gluten and autoimmune diseases ? thanks in advance!
Dairy is often a problem.
5:39 the research shows real food doesn't have to be more expensive - please share this research. Thanks.
Love from Kelantan Malaysia 🇲🇾
Blood sugar will be in check and your type 2 diabetes will fade away.
the good thing about being celiac is that it forces you to cook at home.
Hahahahaha that’s what I was thinking
Doing gluten free diet means you can not eat product made from wheat (mostly). And you don't suppose to eat them not just because it contain gluten but also because flour is so fine mill these days that it is a simple carb source too. and it is bad for you because it make you feel hungry so fast and it is so good in the mouth too.
Eat gluten free food that is not substitute of these flour products. e.g. you eat rice, brown rice, red rice, black rice. eat beans, eat veggies and all that thing. That's what it means to do gluten free diet.
But people add or spray insecticide on plants...
Buy from local small farms or shops that sell organic products
Or grow vegetables at home. It's easy. Inexpensive. Entertaining. Healthy. Nutritious. The doctor said it, didn't you listen to him?
I always felt soooo bad after eating rice-based gluten-free options. They'd either make me really sleepy or my heart would feel like it was going to pound out of my chest.
same here. I thought gluten free rice cakes were okay to eat, but they would give me the worst migraines
Thank you so much for taking your time to educate us so we can be smart food shoppers.♥️
I am so glad you brought this out this is so very true I stay away from that mess
As a Type 1 diabetics gluten free was a disaster. BGs went through the roof. If you want bread once in a while go to a good bakery, no off the shelf bread. I feel that is garbage.
don't buy a gluten free prices foods eat just vegetables and fruits and meat...
Whole foods!
Liga Plume no meat!
@@izroda84 why not?
Not meat. A plant based diet is the best one. No acidity. No obesity. No diabetes. No cancer. No IBS, Crohn's, etc... It's proven.
I need carbs like bread and pasta Best carbs in the world
I have learnt so much ,thank you for your advice..🙏🏻👍🏻
Gluten free for me was cutting out gluten, not replacing it with worse things with the GF label on it. Made my life better. I miss bread and tortillas so much
So no glutenfree flour, no matter wether its oatmeal flour or coconut flour is good?
Thanks again, Dr Hyman. I came back to watch to remind me. God knows, I needed to be reminded!!!
One week on a gluten-free diet and my fasting blood glucose jumped over 100 points.
i'm litteraly don't know what to eat
Can’t you eat grains like rice, and buckwheat for example ?
I started a Fodmap diet in november because I have IBS-D and I started to feel much better right away.now I am on a low fodmap diet and I try to add as many products that I couldn't eat before as I can.the thing is some products that contain gluten are bad for me and I still can't eat them.
I lost weight since with this condition and I would like to know if not eating gluten would cause weight loss?
what about milk alternatives? They are also processed and refined
Thank you for sharing this!
Dr. Hyman, can you please recommend a doctor in Los Angeles who’s like you?
in india gulten product like wheat is consimed like roti (chappati) and then ghee ( clarified butter) or oil is applied now i understood indian are very smart as applying clarified butter or oil to wheat doesn't allow it to stick to gut :)
I get what you're saying. Great message! Just one funny remark tho...it was our grandparents who invented the jello 'salad'
😆
I have been noticing this self-serving "GLUTEN-FREE" labelling being slapped on so many things that make me want to talk to these products in the grocery store aisles to say, "Well, yeah, but you are still junk by all that sugar/soy/canola oil/bad sodium, etc."
And I have also been noticing the similar deceptive practice of sticking "GLUTEN-FREE" on other products that make me want to shout, "Well, no kiddin'!
Yeah, the manufacturers, & at times the marketers with their additional labelling, are just trying to attract more buyers to their products, primarily those inclined to "gluten free."
I must admit, sometimes, especially since there are so many different choices out there on shelves at times, such labeling of even those naturally gluten-free products with "gluten-free" labeling can be helpful, insofar as it is not known to some people what is gluten-free from what is not.
Thanks for your response. 👍🏼
I just eat a gluten free cereal and started to feel like I had a cold. Haven't been checked for food allergies but I keep track
might not be good for you to go gluten free. I won't give up dairy because I feel really bad going a couple days without just when I haven't made it to the store.
most cereal is gluten free and full of sugar. maybe cook some real oatmeal?
Everyone says too much fat bad
Too much carbs
Dairy
Gluten
Wheat
Nightshades
Histamine intolerance
I legit am going to need a feeding tube
@TALKSiiCK
Go carnivore!
jack lalanne : if man made it don't eat it !
juan monge Then you would starve. lol.
Jack was the man. I've got a photo of him next to my desk at work.
Plz keep ur videos in audio or podcasts. It should be easily downloadable for all countries and MP3 downloads.
I want to try gluten free noodles but has white rice flour, monoglycerides, Quinoa Flour, Corn flower, and brown rice flour should I avoid these?
I don’t understand people who say they are allergic to gluten yet they were eating gluten foods their whole childhood and didn’t start being “allergic” until it became a trend.
From what I've read hormone drops after 50 can set off allergies just like it can set off diabetes, cancers, etc. just the joy of aging.
I cannot overstate the value of these videos..
I love you Dr. Hayman! Your book saved my life! 💪😎
What's your take on the medication that helps you tolerate gluten?
+what can i do to avoid wheat products (gluten) i am not able to digest wheat. I ha ve to rely on rice and allied grains. Lab test have proven me otherwise.but i just cannot take wheat or make anything with wheat.
How good or bad are gluten free organic oats?
what's your opinion on rice / oat and almond milk? i don't eat gluten or dairy or meat.
I would suggest seeing a functional medicine doctor to run tests to see what is going on within your health and how you react to certain foods.
Nuts and seed are hard to digest.. and eating too much fruits and veggies isn't that good for the digestive system
Tony 167 100 percent incorrect!!!!!
you should eat meat, thats not healthy
Great info. very sensible advice
Good day sir! Wondering your thoughts on going on a bone broth fast for few days? How many days? Which product of bone broth you recommend?
So what's your thoughts about the flour being sold , I believe it has gluten but something has been taken out of it so it doesn't hurt you.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! Such good information!
yikes! This is hitting me hard! Now I’m so wake in what to eat! Thanks Dr.
What you said makes sense dr. Thank you very much.
Please do not confuse people.
refined sugar is pure evil ...
Excellent points but what if you want a snack...? Do you just go for the regular gluten snacks?
I eat "gluten free", but also, I eat organic. I have bee eating a lot of organic salads and more raw vegetables. I try to avoid rice, because it is more likely to be loaded with arsenic. Even organic whole grain rice is high in arsenic. Rancid oils can be a real problem. Eat whole food. I agree.
Craziejane73 aren’t there certain brands that have been careful now with the rice they sell - to make sure it does not have arsenic in it?
And what about pasta and bread ? Because I can't handle gluten but I need to gain weight ..
I like pasta made from rice flour - they even have some made from organic corn , black beans & chickpeas - there are also wraps for sandwich’s made from coconut flour you can buy or make. Lots of cool recipes are on the web for alternatives.
How do you feel about Breads of Anna yeast free bread?
Is it good to eat it once in a while
What is an example of a food product having a health claim on their label?
And it taste terrible. I'm eating gluten free biscuits I bought at the store by an accident. Decided to look it up to see what the hell I'm eating and why.
So essentially just avoid the processed and gluten free advertised food and just focus on eating whole foods and cooking more. And of course cutting sugar down as well which is what I’ve been doing. Feeling great so far.
My wife has to eat gluten free because of Celiac Disease, but she does not eat the processed stuff because it's crap.
