Great video! [Physical] moving stressors can be really difficult to deal with! As a furniture moving company, this is our best 5 tips to make the moving process easier [and more affordable]: 1. Pack everything into boxes yourselves, having professionals do it (while we don't mind) can be very costly! 2. Make sure most of the small and awkward things are all in one spot because it saves a ton of time 3. Make sure all dressers are emptied to make moving easier because it saves time. 4. Yes, Rachel is right. Take pictures of everything! 5. Look at reviews, make sure they're commercially insured, and it doesn't hurt to be more specific in what you want and don't want!
I've always stuffed my dressers full so that it could be used as extra boxes. I want to use every space in that moving truck. We just take out the drawers, move the body, then put the drawers back in.
Pro tip for moving boxes: If you know someone who works in grocery retail, ask them for the used produce boxes! They slide together securely so you can save on using a lot of packaging tape! Made my move into my townhome super easy!
Value my agent added when I sold my home: 1) they had a professional that did the photos (not the agent) 2) that photographer did light staging at no cost to me that improved the appearance of some spaces both in the photos and in person. 3) they had a professional who measured the house (every room, closet, hallway) which resulted in accurate square footage that was actually more than the property had been described when we bought it. 4) was able to get in a professional to repair something that showed up in the inspection in one day's time and satisfied the buyers' concerns for a minimal cost.
Very relevant and good tips! Another I heard was to "shop your boxes" when you put your items away in the new house, as, even after decluttering, you may find that there are additional items to donate. I'm using it right now and it works!
Dear Rachel, George, thank you for this topic. We moved to the newly built house 2 months ago. The construction was coordinated by ourselves and it took 1 year, a very crazy year. I truly appreciate the idea of getting things / furniture on the go, not necessarily have all ready on day 1. Not only is that good for the budget, but the experience of living in a new place can make you change your mind about some choices. I thought that we are minimalists but moving homes and realising the amount of stuff we still have (despite long-term decluttering) is a bit overwhelming.
Dana K White from A Slob Comes Clean ordered the amount of moving boxes based on her new home's square footage. I thought that was a really cool idea. A good way to get started decluttering, you can only pack what will fit in the boxes. Only thing I would do differently is figure out how many boxes/size I needed and get them for free! Great topic! George has to make room for the new baby girl 💕
Nice surprise !!!George!!! Love your tips. You guys are awesome sauce 😂 Being prepared does take away a lot of stress. Love the topic. I’m using your tips for my decluttering venture.
We had different colored tape/ stickers. Each room got their own color (we also wrote on the tape with what was in the box). That way when we had the helpers unload the truck, the boxes would be in the correct room and we could decide which boxes to open first.
I Bought a new construction inventory home for $64,000 price drop with all the upgrades builder paid closing & lender Bought rate down to 4.125 in February 💙💙💙
@@briansamaniego-howard1806 it wasn’t just the basic cleaning, wear and tear stuff. I don’t mind taking care of what I’ve chosen to take ownership of 🙄 The place I rented from was requiring the tenant to hire professional carpet cleaning (you couldn’t do a rug doctor and it was required even if the carpets were in perfect condition). I’ve always cleaned my rentals before I left but the townhome I was in had a list of requirements that seemed a bit extensive or absurd that honestly was the landlords responsibility. Regardless, one should anticipate the move out cost and cleaning requirements when they move out. So while one can expect to take care of the place before they leave may seem obvious - ability to fulfill all cleaning requirements within a certain time frame without being charged will factor into the budget.
@zhevoncole7756 that's something new I've learned today then 😅 I've never been allowed to clean my rentals myself. It always had to be professionally done.
George I may have missed it, is your single family home also a new build? We have done 2 builder homes, town home and condo and are unsure if we should do a single family home new build or resale, we're on 4 and 6.
We were like this, I was debt free for 1 year from my student loan. before my husband, said I was debt free. We got married, and we paid off my husbands student loan 6 months into married life. We moved out of the country,to sunny Australia. where were were, and now saving up for a house. We're on baby step 4, 5,6.
Ok Rachel and George Here’s my dilemma $1,500 left on the mortgage Other debt $20 k tops The place I bought my the family farm . Got the farm with the old people. Both are gone now. I need a new house. Plan on building starting this fall (pay go :) doing about 1/3 of the work myself. And yes I have enough lumber to build three houses. I own a small sawmill. Planning to stay in the old house till the new house is done. Move then put a match to the old one. Also the place is 140 acres. Smaller, more energy efficient, handy cap friendly. I’m 63 never married, no children. Just an over worked bachelor. No plans to retire An I nuts?
At 8 minutes when you said save wedding video for friends with a new camera I almost died!! As a gen x I get that but many (most) female gen z and millennials just quit listening. Maybe George (love him) should not talk weddings? 😎

Same with alcohol stores! Great for glass stuff in the kitchen!
Another great box is usually from gas station - the windshield washer fluid boxes that hold 6 gallons. Very sturdy
We just ask random Walmart and Dollar General Employees and usually end up with a lot of boxes.
I still smile when we shifted into our own home with no furniture - we just used our camping beds and furniture for a while

Just a tip. Instead of paying for boxes go to the grocery stores and ask if you can take the once fruit and product came in. 8 saved hundreds

I LOVE to thrift store and garage sale shop for items. But mattresses and coaches must be NEW!

Banana boxes work amazing. Large boxes with handles. Great for cloths, books, toys etc.
Always a good show with Rachel and George!!!
This video came right on time for me. I'm literally moving this week 🎉❤
Same!
Fast food French fry boxes are the best size for moving. We had a bunch of those and they were all the same size and shape, unlike liquor store boxes.
great conversation .... so true ..... what a challenge .... I had a bit of a nervous breakdown last year with the move.

Don’t forget about the cleaning requirements for your rental before moving out/doing early termination
What do you mean I gotta clean the things I took ownership of 😒😂 people don't realize

@@thebestthingthatneverhappe6729 Not a new build. Both have their pros and cons. Get the home that fits your needs and wants that is in your budget
Thanks! Helpful.
Great tips!
Be sure to budget your moving expenses beforehand because rental trucks that leave California have tripled in price since 2020.
I would love a talk just about new construction.
We have never bought a home but to get land in our area, it looks like we might have to build.
Great info and experience
It was really hard for me to transport my air mattress fully inflated. My wife said she is leaving me for another man.
“Construction Sommelier” 😂
The BRICK. Crazy.😂
Make this an episode of S.M.H.H. because it's a fantastic topic. Dave and/or Whitney could guest star cuz they're real estate people.
@Art Garfunkle If they did such an episode, the featured cocktail should be something Dave or Whitney like.

I HATE!!!!! Moving. My plan is to remain in my house until the end of my life
Me too, but if I did, I have a "house poor" situation. My dad owns the house and I really don't wanna sell my childhood home once he passes away.
Samsies!! 😂 💀
Ok Rachel and George

For the boxes… you can just ransack Sams club or Costco
