I'm not American, so it was amazing for me to see people decorate for Valentine's day, Easter/Spring, 4th of July, Summer, Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas....I would be so exhausted at the end of the year...cause I can barely keep up with Christmas 🎄 😮😂...

Japan is much worse when it comes to holidays and seasons, however, they do it such a tasteful and elegant way, one can't imagine them being any other way.

Minimalism is less about what you don't buy but more about just being intentional with what you DO buy. If you love fashion then buy the fashion but just make sure it's for the right reasons.
I love seasonal decorations and one way that I have found that works for me is buy things in red. Like dish towels, large fruit bowl, pillows. It can work for almost all holidays. Then I just add a gnome, bunny, heart, tree, pumpkin, with a little bit of red to tie in the seasons.

The biggest thing about minimalism is the *intentionality* for example if you love fashon you can still be intentional with your wardrobe and shopping habbits without only wearing black tshirts ❤

I freeze my limes and take out what I need a few hours before use. When they thaw out, they are MUCH easier to squeeze by hand. I find that I get more juice out of them that way than with a lemon/lime squeezer. I squeeze them through a strainer to catch the seeds.
The seasonal decorations while they take up space, they are reused year after year so… I’ll allow it lol 😂

I used to buy seasonal decor and reuse it, but the time and money to store and replace them was something I never payed attention to. Not buying replacements when something got messed up or lost has been sooo freeing! I recommend 😅❤

I decorate for fall and Christmas, that’s it. I simply don’t have the storage space for every season/holiday. I do have front door wreaths for each season but that’s easy storage.
Nah. No need to store all of that stuff just to use it once a year.

I don’t buy a lot of single use items but I can’t give up paper towels. I use reusable ones for basic cleaning, but not for “pet messes”
I have a huge stash of paper towels which I bought at a discount. Maybe I won’t buy more when I run out of them. They seem so much more sanitary to use in cleaning the bathroom. I’ll need to change big time.😉
For kitchen gadgets, my rule is it has to do 3 things. So my ice cream scoop is also a cookie scoop amd measures pancake/waffle batter. And cupcakes are more even using my ice cream scoop.
I was going to object to the ice cream scoop one, everyone who eats ice cream needs an ice cream scoop. And, I always look for kitchen gadgets first at thrift stores, if I need them.
I change out my throw pillow covers for Christmas and fall so it doesn’t take up to much space.
I love that idea and it can change up the look of a room. Summer and winter I change all my curtains for a completely different look
I have 4 sets of pillow covers for season/holiday and one for every day. I leave the covers on the insert and flip flop them around…no storage space and plumper pillows.
As a maximumalist I can’t relate. 😂

You won't regret the skincare. I used ALL the things in my 20's and 30's and I am still getting the lines. 😂 I wish I hadn't wasted money on 16 different serums and eye creams.
I wash my face and moisturize with sunscreen. I’m in my 40’s. I don’t wear makeup either. Yeah, wrinkles still happen.
I will keep my nail polish and hygiene stuff. Not paying someone to do my nails etc.
My T.P. will always be single use ! But just getting into thinking about what you don't NEED is a very good thing. Save money where you can & put it to better use.
There are minimalists and then there are anorexic minimalists. I am learning a lot about how many things I don’t really need. Some of the shows that I’ve seen though, carry minimalism to an extreme. A couple, leaving to travel to the world, put his and her clothing in one suitcase and anything else they’re carrying in a large tote. One lady decided there was no reason to have a decor piece or plant on her coffee table or any of her shelves because she could save time dusting if there was nothing to dust except the table and the shelves. I think closets with a pair of jeans, a blouse, two T-shirts and a dressier pair of slacks for me is missing the point. I do not have my own washer and dryer. Hopefully she had shorts and a winter coat stashed away. This can become an unhealthy obsession. I will minimized, but not to need mental health help before I go over the edge. I would like to get a new pillow for my couch simply because I am sick of looking at the pillow I have had for 15 years. Then I thought well, maybe there’s another option😢. I am making progress. Slowly.
Oh yes, I agree that this can, sadly, be taken too far. I don't want to keep up with the Joneses, but I do need summer clothes and winter clothes ! I try to buy decent quality and take care of things to make them last.
I say, if you want a new pillow - go for it ! I think the point is to not have so many pillows that there's no place for you to sit down. If you want another option (and your pillow is still in good condition), maybe just buy or make a new pillow cover.
Rachel, you need to have Peter Walsh on your show. As far as taking over your life and decluttering, he is the expert on everything for this he was on Oprah, Rachael Ray, and you really need to have them on your shelf and he has amazing book. She should read he came around for more sooner many years ago was in the home edit, and Marie Kondo. Love your channel!!
I think there are seasons of minimalism, because its easier to be minimal once the kids are growing up, bc higher income, attention, time to choose etc, but when you have babies, you do whats easier.
That’s so true, now that my daughter is 7 it is easier to be minimal, she doesn’t need so much gadgets to prop her up and no nursing station, or changing area, diapers and bottles ..etc
She gets one big gift for bday and one big gift for Christmas. When something comes in the house, we donate to make space. I’m guessing when she is a teenager she might not like that idea 😅😂❤

Twist your lemon or lime over a fork. Gets most of the juice out and it's easy.
I have never been able to get as much juice out as using the gadget, I agree this is one that is a must.

This video was great! But I have a video idea…. So, what I would love to see is tips for the chronically ill or those in health crisis (cancer, heart surgery, etc…). Case in point, the single uses items are very helpful when someone is in a flare or is taking care of a sick family member. So I think a video (or series) for those people in need of ways to cut expenses would be extremely helpful. Thank you! 😊
I bought reusable metal straws that came with a skinny scrubber. I use glass bowls to store and transport food for work. Stays fresher than plastic. My decorating consists of holiday dishes that I use year after year. For summer I have been using thrift shop red and blue bowls and plates placed on a reusable tablecloth. I purged all my old holiday decorations years ago. Took up too much space even in the garage. Clothes? I have enough to last forever. Other than uniforms i havent bought a single thing in years.

I love this video Because I love minimalist. I come from Italy where we do not buy as many things as Americans. we don't have a seasonal decor. even though living here now I like my fall and Xmas decor. but I keep it simple and no more than just few pumpkins at the table. I don't buy new furniture I try to find used stuff or free on marketplace. I dislike make up so I don't buy any. We only eat out when we have a special occasion. Life is simple when u keep it simple.
Need ice cream scooper. Husband bends the spoon out of shape all the time. Obviously, we have cheap utensils.
I have two dogs - so can't let go of the paper towels .... they are great at picking up "stuff" left by the pups! Otherwise I am a minimalist in many areas of my life!

In regards to the hygiene stuff. I have all the tools at home to do my own pedicures and manicures. Once you have them you just need the occasional new bottle of polish. This saves me $30-40 at the salon plus tip.

I was a minimalist before it was cool! I am a minimalist in most areas of life. Keep it simple, enjoy the little things, and I do not buy hardly any single use items lol.
Single use stuff is not just disposable things, but things you can only use for one purpose (an apple slicer even though you can use a knife for example)
We buy each house hold member has their own cups Like my toddler has like 10 but she hides them from us me and my husband use the same cup everyday

I’m a maximalist when it comes to toilet paper and paper towels. I have cases of each in the garage. I have paper towels in my bathrooms. Why do I want to wipe my hands on a towel everyone is using? So disgusting. Other than that, I don’t buy a lot of unnecessary items. I’m also a maximalist when it comes to food. I buy any food I and my family want and will eat.

I think Rachel is so beautiful, so classy, such a lady, informative, intelligent, and realistic. I’m not sure why so many people have negative things to say about her, but I’m sure most of the people who are so negative towards her are broke asf.

My daughter has a wide foot which makes buying shoes very frustrating. She now only wears two pairs. Crocs, and fabric tennis shoes like sketches. Fancy dress, she is wearing her tennis shoes, school, tennis shoes, and so on.. crocs for running around, pool, beach. Easy, saves money and time.
The clothing stores for large ladies have wide shoes. Torrid, Lane Bryant
One trick I've used is widen shoes with the ice. A large zip lock bag in the shoe, then add some water, put in the freezer. Repeat a few times.

I have a chronic co dictionary. A bidet , non electric called a rush helps a lot. Got during the to shortage. But still need to do a little tp drying etc after. Pandemic really made me go with less tp.

1:52 to 2:06 shiiet..I reuse the same ziplock bag to keep my work tooth brush and tooth paste for months. And my small supply of ibuprofen, benadryl, I Hamer, and dramatize mess. Nothing si gle use about that.

I was thinking minimalist will buy all one time use stuff for the kids party for example. Buy, use done. No keeping stuff. Buying reusable tablecloth and big amount reusable plates for all guests and reusable party cups etc need to be stored. That is not minimalizm ???
In Canada. We are forced to buy single use bags now that our prime minister banned grocery bags! :(

Lol it’s the opposite. I’m Canadian. We are banned from buying single use bags…we are forced to purchase reusable bags. But you’re actually not forced at all. Re use your old bags you’ve collected, use a cloth bag, bring an old box. Many options.
I’m sure your life is better. You don’t think about your kids or what they want. Girls like shoes boys can take it or leave it as long as they have cool sneaks. Oh wait you like shoes. Make sure you only have 3 pairs.
