After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans th-cam.com/users/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!

As a mechanic, one sore spot I have with trailers of any make is the wiring. I have seen poorly routed wires that became pinched where the frame comes down, and I have seen electric brakes not work because the wires for the brakes had two layers of insulation and only one got stripped.
And then there is the cheap, flat wire loom I saw here. There is just one layer of insulation protecting the conductor and that insulation hardens easily and cracks, introducing a pathway for moisture to the conductor leading to corrosion. I don't know what kind of connectors they use on these trailers, but open, unsealed connectors will fail. When I repair the wiring, I only use heat shrink connectors to provide a sealed connection.
This isn't a criticism of these trailers, but trailers in general. Thanks for the tour.

      Agreed,
I have had several utility trailers over the years and the wiring always seems to go bad
Trailers are outside in the rain year round mud snow with little protection

I could not agree more. I was hoping ot see more of the wiring process. It is usually horrendous on most trailers.

They use heat shrink butt connectors and then convolute over the top to help protect the wiring.

Some years ago I was looking for a tilt trailer for my personal use. I quickly gave up on anything used. Anything nice and clean was priced to close to new and anything that needed work was either complete garbage (twisted frame etc) or by the time you bought new tires, wheel bearings, deck, and lights you were close to buying something new and would have ton of labor in it. So off to dealers looing for new. That's when you find out how many places build garbage. If they only have time to use the torch to free hand cut holes for the lights then they can't be taking time to make sure everything else is squared away. I really like what I saw here both in the fit up and the trailer design. Certainly a "great" product.

Scott, I had to stop the video and call the shop, where I was greeted by Amanda and we talked a little about the business. Rather than just throwing out a price, Amanda offered to transfer me to someone who could have a conversation around my exact needs and then provide me with an actual quote, based upon a unit that would be a good fit. That impressed me, knowing that they really cared about my needs, rather than just moving product. What a great feeling to know that I would be buying a trailer that would actually suit my needs, now and for years to come. Thanks for sharing, I'll be down soon to tour their facility and hope that we'll have an opportunity to get together for lunch.

That was one of the most interesting videos I've seen on the EC channels! I am a weekend hacker of a welder and fabricator and I have built my own utility trailer...LOVED having it for household use. Then I built a little camper for my wife and I. Maybe a custom trailer idea for you would be one that can be used as a deck trailer on chore day but could winch a sleeper box up to go on a little camping trip. I thought of doing that but chickened out and just built 2 trailers. Merry Christmas! Now I am going to watch this video a couple more times. :)

A great review of the need, application, and specific trailer. Many guys have a need for a trailer and unfortunately do not have a good trailer. A poor trailer can reduce productivity and can be downright dangerous. Initially we bought a low price 7,000 trailer. It was not very well engineered and seemed difficult to pull. I took it to a scale and learned that it weighed 4,800 pounds empty. That meant only a 2,200 pound legal load! At the first opportunity, we sold it. Now we have good trailers that are similar to the trailer featured here. 14,000 gvwr and 7,000 gvwr trailers that are well engineered and safe.
Hopefully, some young guys and guys new in business can learn from this review.

My company has dozens of Great Northern trailers, including the exact same trailer that you had built. They are fantastic trailers that will last forever. They also tow very nicely.
My only complaint is that often times the people who wire the trailers struggle with matching the colors of the wires from the tongue to the end of the pigtail, which makes it annoying to fix after a customer drags the pigtail.

I really enjoyed this video. I actually bought a tilt trailer back in 97', new, for (you won't believe) $650. (Walker, LA.) I was so proud to have my little residential 12x6 flat bed, single axle w'tilt. I always noticed & wondered , why I don't see more trailers w/tilt beds ? Especially when so many others complemented me on it and frequently asked where they might acquire one.
I don't believe I've seen even one similar to mine until this last few yrs. (although I'm just a resident trailer owner and no guru in the trailer world) But the dang thing really lasted w/all my travels as a carpenter & usage over the decades. One thing I will say, I've been asked to sell it, many times, for over twice what I paid and it's worth it.
I have upgraded the lights to LED, changed deck boards out, painted it once (recently) and added a piano hinged alum. diamond plate to the end that flips down, as a transition to the 2" high end of the trailer, for rolling my wheeled carpenter box or 4 wheel dolly's up & onto the deck.
All in all, it makes me happy to see the quality and innovations of ppl that love their work and are out to serve others the best way they can.
