The artist smith I go to for lessons has the smallest one I have ever seen (I call it the wee green striking machine) It's only about 4 feet tall but it does the work just fine. All of the power hammers I have ever seen fascinate me. I remember the first day I saw the wee green striking machine in action, it was my first smithing lesson ever and I was far more impressed with the work being done on it than the viking knife I was making by hand. Sir watching you make that bar took me back 65 years or so. When I was a kid I used to help my dad do all kinds of that work my job was to turn the forge and help, where ever he needed. We had no power tools his trip hammer was attached to his shoulder by a lot of bone and muscle. We were farmers and there was always plow shears that need to be pounded out and tempered. After doing 16/20 pieces on a hot summer day it was time to hit the swimming hole as fast as we could get there. I learned a lot about life doing that but at the time I just wanted to be somewhere else but now I'm glad I wasn't. I'm in my 80s and still mess around with stuff a bit. My friends think I'm crazy and they may be rite. A great vid to be sure.

Jealous! I want one! I refer to Andrew as "bruiser" because he has only one speed - fast and one direction - forward! Nice work on the bar and I am sure it's going to be put to hard use!

My friend had a Burke Bar to use at his business. He sold and delivered Safes. He used the Burke to tip the safe in order to place long round bars that served as rollers to move them while loading and installing. His Burke Bar had a heavy Oak Handle on it that is incredibly flexible and sturdy. A real workhorse. Great video.

First time in your domain and I really enjoyed watching another true craftsman at his trade but the icing on the cake is when you said you were sending this to Andrew Camarata as he is the guy that got me hooked on trade videos and you are correct, that boy is a force of nature and fears nothing.
I've used Burke bars as I was a flooring contractor and then re-model specialist with my brother and we bought one way back when. Thanks for taking me down memory lane and that is a very kind and thoughtful thing your doing with Andrew. It speaks volumes about who you are!

First, I've never really watched someone forge anything out of metal much less an old spring and most impressed with the amount of labor put into making this bar. Makes me appreciate it even more. So, thank you for showing how it's made.

The Burke Bar is by far one of the most useful hand tools in heavy civil construction. It’s excellent that you emphasized the importance of the springy ductility of the working end, and it’s cool that you are gifting your hand built specimen to that hard working young man.

Finally someone thoughtful and conscientious enough to put something in the way of the welding flash. I know you can't get blinded by a video but to me it just stears people in an unsafe direction. Allowing people who wouldn't know any better, to blankly stare at the flash on the video has never seemed right to me. Thank you for attempting to impart your valuable life lessons. Outstanding videos and exemplary temperament. Salt of the Earth.
